SeaWorld Orlando: Family Halloween Activities in Central Florida

Halloween Spooktacular at SeaWorld is a yearly celebration that takes place on select dates from now until November 3 and occurs between 12 PM and 5 PM. The event features a harvest maze, scarecrow dance parties, mermaid meet-and-greets, and story time for the little ones in the pumpkin garden. As part of SeaWorld’s Halloween celebrations, guests are welcome to dress in their favorite costumes with a few minor exceptions. Please keep in mind that costume masks and hoods aren’t allowed for those ages 13 and older, and face painting is only permitted if done by park artists.

Spooktacular is included with park admission to SeaWorld Orlando, but anyone wanting to make their memories extra special has plenty of options at an additional cost. Treat lovers can participate in the candy trail, made up of parkwide trick-or-treat stations, by purchasing a reusable SeaWorld trick-or-treat bag from many of the park’s merchandise locations, such as the SeaWorld Store. Additionally, the treasure hunters in the family can earn a special prize by completing The Spooktacular Scavenger Hunt Map, which can be bought at Coconut Bay Traders.

Our favorite of the add-on options is the Shamu and Crew Spooktacular Breakfast. The buffet-style meal takes place at Seafire Grill and features Shamu and his friends decked out in their Halloween attire along with great menu items like two choices of scrambled eggs (that’s regular and Western omelet style for those keeping notes), sausage gravy, biscuits, French toast sticks, and more. It’s important to know that this is specific to Saturdays and Sundays, meaning space may be limited. Those interested will want to reserve their spot ASAP!

Busch Gardens: Top Family Halloween Fun in Central Florida

Halloween Harvest at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is a family-friendly festival that takes place from now until October 27 (plus Halloween Day!). The event captures the spirit of Fall in rich, seasonal colors, features a plethora of pumpkins, and Kandy’s Sweetacular Celebration. This weekend-only event is hosted by Kandy, a witch-in-training who loves sweets and conjures up fun, kid-friendly activities between 12 PM and 4 PM every Saturday and Sunday at the Festival Walkway.

As part of Kandy’s seasonal magic, guests can find many things happening throughout Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. Kandy’s World is a show where Kandy shares her story of loving candy and becoming a real witch — which may coincidentally involve the time she accidentally turned her friends into frogs. There’s also Kandy’s Sweetacular Celebration Costume Parade, where every kid gets a moment to shine in a vibrant parade of costumes, and Taffy Twist’s Black Cat Dance Party, where guests can groove and show off their moves in a bubble-filled, high-energy dance party.

Sesame Street friends are also joining the Halloween excitement with even more dance parties, storytimes, scavenger hunts, and a special radio show hosted by the one and only Count von Count!

Other Family-Friendly Halloween Events

Halloween fun isn’t limited to the major theme parks—Central Florida communities are getting in on the action, too, offering plenty of family-friendly events! Fall festivals happen at many local establishments. One of our favorites is over in Clermont at Southern Hills Farms. The 9th Annual Fall Festival runs Thursdays through Sundays until November 17, offering an incredible selection of things to do. Included in the admission price—$22 on weekdays and $25 on weekends—are a petting zoo, face painting, wagon rides, a 5-acre corn maze, yard games, and a dedicated kid zone. For additional fees, families can explore a u-pick pumpkin patch, stroll through sunflower and zinnia fields, and enjoy a food truck garden, a beer shed, and a market offering farm-made goods.

Those staying in the International Drive area have an excellent option at the Sea Life Aquarium at Icon Park. Now through November 3, the establishment takes the entire family on a seven-seas tour of pirate history in their Pirates of the Haunted Seas experience. Guests can learn about pirate lore, discover the incredible sea creatures at Sea Life, and snag some candy loot at their education stations. Sea Life’s Pirates of the Haunted Seas event takes place Fridays through Sundays in October, as well as from October 29 to November 1. The event is included with admission, which ranges from $29.99 to $39.99 plus tax.

Just minutes from International Drive, Harry P. Leu Gardens is hosting its Happy Frights experience daily until October 31. As part of the event, the entirety of Harry P. Leu Gardens is redone in a seasonal makeover with sections ranging from a murky, mysterious swamp to a crazy clown carnival. While strolling the gardens, guests can experience a hedge maze, a hip-hop dance party with aliens, live music, and eight trick-or-treat stations. Adult admission is $28.00 and includes entry to the experience, one alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage served in a commemorative LED cup, plus the option between a commemorative bucket of popcorn (with one free refill) or a Phat Ash Bakes chocolate chip cookie, along with onsite parking for one car. Children ages 3 to 11 are $26.25, which includes entry, one non-alcoholic beverage, and the choice of a commemorative bucket of popcorn (with one free refill) or a Phat Ash Bakes chocolate chip cookie. It also includes one selection from a variety of merchandise items, excluding the event’s Shoulder Bat.

Riders will embark on a four-minute and thirty-second journey within one of two immersive multi-level theaters, each accommodating 30 guests. Know Before You Go

Before heading to SeaWorld Orlando, there are a few important policies to keep in mind. For your convenience, you can rent a stroller online before your visit. If you prefer, strollers are also available for rent inside the park, right next to Guest Services at the front entrance.

Please note that outside food, beverages, and coolers are not permitted in the park. However, this rule does not apply to baby food or formula. Upon arrival, contact Park Security or Guest Relations for approval to bring these items in.

Each guest needs a SeaWorld Orlando ticket, except for children under three years old—they receive free admission, and no photo ID is required for anyone under 18. By the way, you can snag discounted tickets for those three and older through Orlando Informer here!

After entering the park, it’s helpful to locate nursing facilities on the map. You can find them in Sesame Street Land, Waterway Grill, and in front of Journey to Atlantis.

Exploring Sesame Street Land at SeaWorld Orlando with Toddlers and Babies

Sesame Street Land is perfect for little ones with plenty of opportunities to stay entertained. The land includes immersive experiences, attractions, character interactions, a parade, and so much more! As the most themed area of the park, it’s fun for parents too. Kids can wander around and hear responses from their favorite characters at height-appropriate interactive opportunities. There are several interactive elements throughout the land, such as Bert and Ernie’s doorbell, where you can listen to them talk after ringing their buzzer! Knocking on Oscar the Grouch’s trashcan will prompt him to reply as well. Sesame Street Land also has bubble wands available for purchase that double as interactive devices. You can use the wands at interaction points marked by a yellow star and the words “tap wand here.” 

Sesame Street Party Parade

The Sesame Street Party Parade is a must-see if you are visiting with fans of the show! You can purchase reserved seating to guarantee a spot on the route without the wait, freeing up more time for attractions or nap time. This parade has beautiful floats and fun music that’ll have everyone dancing! Party and sing along with Elmo, Big Bird, Abby Cadabby, and other familiar faces from the TV screen.

Character Meet-and-Greets

Snap a photo with Elmo and friends next to Hooper’s store! You can meet Elmo, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, and some of their other friends (subject to availability). This interactive experience is a blast for everyone, from the littlest fans of Elmo to grown-ups! Elmo and friends are available for photo opportunities throughout the day. Sesame Street Land Attractions for Babies and Toddlers at SeaWorld Orlando

Abby’s Flower Tower
Jump in Abby Cadabby’s flower pots and get a bird’s-eye view of Sesame Street Land! Anyone under 42 inches is required to ride with a supervising companion who is at least 14 years old. Hand-held infants are not permitted on this attraction.

Cookie Drop!
It’s snack time as you bounce up and down in a cookie! Anyone under 42 inches is required to ride with a supervising companion who is at least 14 years old. Hand-held infants are not permitted on this attraction.

Elmo’s Choo Choo Train
Take a ride around and spot fun surprises with Elmo! Anyone under 36 inches is required to ride with a supervising companion who is at least 14 years old. Hand-held infants are not permitted on this attraction.

Slimey’s Slider
Swivel through compost on Oscar the Grouch’s friend Slimey! Anyone under 42 inches is required to ride with a supervising companion who is at least 14 years old. Hand-held infants are not permitted on this attraction.

Sunny Day Carousel 
Go ‘round and ‘round the Sunny Day Carousel on the horse of your choice! You can spot Big Bird at the top and familiar faces on the sides! Anyone under 42 inches is required to ride with a supervising companion who is at least 14 years old. Hand-held infants are permitted on the bench seat.

Flamingo Paddle Boats

An underrated experience for younger visitors is the flamingo paddle boats. Handheld infants are not permitted, but there is no height requirement for children riding with adults! For a 20-minute ride, there is a $6 fee, but this is a great family activity.  Where else can you paddle on the water right next to a rollercoaster? 

Animal Encounters for Babies and Toddlers at SeaWorld Orlando

No minimum height is required — everyone is welcome to enjoy the various animal exhibits SeaWorld Orlando has to offer! You can see sea lions up close and even feed them fish for an additional cost. If you prefer something a little more hands-on, you can visit Stingray Lagoon and touch the rays. This interactive sensory experience is suitable for all ages. You might even catch a keeper talk at select encounters if you are there at the right time.

A few different tours and encounters are offered for a more in-depth interaction with the animals at SeaWorld. Encounters are typically for one animal, whereas the tours are longer and delve deeper into the animal facts. Up-close tours are available for dolphins, beluga whales, sharks, penguins, killer whales, and sea lions. You can reserve an encounter with penguins, walruses, and dolphins!

Live Shows

If shows captivate your children’s attention, you have a few different options at SeaWorld Orlando. The park offers sea lion, dolphin, and, of course, orca shows. Showtimes vary daily, so be sure to check the app or website beforehand so you can plan accordingly! Sitting down to watch a show is a great way to rest your feet and entertain the younger members of your party. Reserved seating can be purchased for select shows and presentations, guaranteeing a great seat without the need to stand in line. This may be a convenient option for larger parties or if you have someone who gets restless while waiting!

This coaster reaches speeds of up to 44 miles per hour and soars along 1,831 feet of twisting track, peaking at 80 feet above ground.

The experience begins the moment you enter the queue, where you’ll be introduced to the personalities of the four phoenixes, each setting the tone for the adventure ahead. During your ride on Phoenix Rising, you will essentially take flight with one of these fantastical creatures. Here’s a glimpse into each phoenix:

What truly sets this ride apart is its unique onboard audio system. Each train, seating 20 passengers across 10 rows, features original audio tracks tailored to each phoenix. This audio perfectly synchronizes with every twist and turn, making every moment on Phoenix Rising truly unforgettable. An added touch we appreciated was the under-glow lighting on each ride vehicle, which matched the colors of the phoenix we were riding with.

During our visit, we had the pleasure of riding twice—first with Aqua and then with Glacius. Though the soundtracks for each ride slightly differed, common elements like the flapping of wings on the lift hill and various phoenix cries throughout the journey added a magical touch.

Our experience on this new coaster was nothing short of fantastic. It strikes a perfect balance between thrilling and family-friendly, making it an excellent introduction to the park’s more intense rides, like the nearby suspended coaster, Montu.

Penguin Trek Queue

The queue for Penguin Trek blends the familiar caverns from its predecessor, Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin, with new elements that enrich the storyline. As we move through the queue, we encounter a base camp brimming with gear, navigation tools, research equipment, and more, heightening the anticipation for the upcoming expedition.

Approaching the loading platform, thrill-seekers should note the extended queue dedicated to the ride’s front and back seats. If you’re carrying extra gear (like backpacks or purses that exceed the size restrictions of the ride), you can stow them on the opposite side of the platform during boarding and retrieve them after your adventure concludes. For added convenience, lockers are available for a small fee before you enter the line for Penguin Trek.

Penguin Trek Ride Experience

Board the snowmobile-shaped ride vehicle, designed with nine rows of two seats, side by side. You’ll be securely fastened with a lap bar and seats specially molded to cradle your legs that are equipped with handles for those intense moments, ensuring both comfort and safety.

Soon, it’s time to take off into the expanse of Antarctica. The journey begins with a dark ride segment, immersing you in the stunning beauty and the perilous dangers of this frozen wilderness. Prepare to encounter lifelike wildlife, including penguins, amid a landscape of treacherously falling and cracking ice. Note: this section has a strobing effect for those sensitive to such stimuli.

The first launch sends you soaring over a hill, and though it’s the gentler of the two, it’s just a teaser of what’s to come. Brace yourself for the second launch, which comes swiftly with an immediate turn. While Penguin Trek is a family-friendly ride, those wary of fast launches might prefer to explore the penguin exhibit or browse the gift shop instead.

Emerging from the dark into the light, the outdoor segment offers a refreshing dash through the open air, with the Florida sun grounding us back in reality. Overall, the attraction delivered three minutes packed with thrills and fun! Upon opening, SeaWorld Orlando made its mark as a theme park that connected guests with the sea and its inhabitants. Over time, it has evolved into a cherished destination, drawing families from across the globe to enjoy its incredible attractions.

Back in 1992, SeaWorld Orlando premiered its first ride, Mission: Bermuda Triangle. This would later become Wild Arctic and inspire the park to blend theme park thrills with animal presentations, setting a precedent for future attractions. Since then, SeaWorld has debuted several record-breaking and innovative experiences, such as Infinity Falls and the upcoming Penguin Trek launch coaster.

Journey to Atlantis

Opening Date: April 17, 1998

Following the opening of SeaWorld Orlando’s first attraction, it was only natural that a water ride would be introduced. Journey to Atlantis opened on April 17, 1998.

This water coaster invites guests on a thrilling journey to the legendary lost city of Atlantis, weaving through hidden passageways and tunnels. Hold on tight as you glide, twist, turn, and plummet through the remnants of this ancient underwater city.

Since its debut in 1998, the ride has undergone several minor adjustments, including updates to its storyline. Despite these changes, it remains a thrilling water coaster that was the first of its kind to be built by its manufacturer, Mack Rides.

Kraken

Opening Date: June 1, 2000

Kraken has solidified its status as a formidable force in the roller coaster world since its opening day. Towering at 149 feet and stretching over 4,177 feet in length, this thrill boasts seven inversions and speeds up to 65 miles per hour, making a bold statement against its rivals.

The mythical-themed ride features a floorless concept and an initial drop that’s nearly the length of its peak. Beginning in June 2017, the attraction incorporated virtual reality headsets and took on the name Kraken Unleashed. However, this concept was short-lived and ended in June 2018, returning to its original Kraken state. 

For a time, the coaster held the record for the tallest and longest in Florida. As it tends to happen, that title changed hands, which SeaWorld wouldn’t let go for long. Kraken would still remain the tallest and longest roller coaster in the park until another thrill was entered into SeaWorld’s depths.

Manta

Opening Date: May 22, 2009

Manta stands as this writer’s favorite ride in the state (and yes — “state,” you read that right!) for its theme and innovative design. The queue’s walkway features 10 tanks filled with 3,000 animals representing over 60 species of sea life and is decorated with colorful mosaic tiles.

With a top speed of 56 miles per hour and a height of 140 feet, Manta falls just short of its siblings. However, since premiering in 2009, Manta has won its share of accolades and is a long-standing fan-favorite attraction for good reason.

The queue alone is breathtaking, and whatever breath you have left is swiftly taken by the exhilarating ride that follows. It’s not often that guests can feel the thrill of gliding over a body of water and the heads of the park’s other guests.

Mako

Opening Date: June 10, 2016

By the time Mako came onto the scene, Florida’s theme parks had a habit of raising the bar higher and higher when it came to records being broken and ways they could challenge one another.

The ride took a chomp out of state records with a maximum speed of 73 miles per hour, a peak of 200 feet, and zero-g banks that mimic the real-life shark species’ movements, giving guests moments of simulated freefall during the track’s deep curves.

Pipeline: The Surf Coaster

Opening Date: May 27, 2023

Pipeline: The Surf Coaster is a first-of-its-kind thrill ride, drawing inspiration from surfing cultures across the globe.

Pipeline’s cutting-edge design enables riders to experience the sensation of carving through totally tubular waves, mirroring the dynamic movements of the sport it emulates. Its innovative restraints offer a simulation of wave motion as they navigate gnarly curls at speeds up to 60 miles per hour along its 2,950-foot track.

The ride’s design incorporates a mix of indoor and outdoor elements, weaving through the Penguin Trek building with a series of dynamic twists and turns.

The design of the coaster’s track is particularly noteworthy, as it integrates the excitement of a thrilling quest with the educational mission of SeaWorld Orlando. Guests will navigate through the caverns of Antarctica, holding their own secrets, such as breathtaking vistas of the penguin’s habitat. 

But don’t be fooled by the beauty of this icy wonderland. Warning signs and close encounters along the way heighten the sense of adventure, leading to a climactic escape that propels riders into the outdoor portion of the ride.

We suggest purchasing a sampler lanyard to maximize your Seven Seas Food Festival trip while maintaining a budget. This option is highly recommended for those who wish to sample a wide range of offerings within their budgetary constraints and appetitive limits.

A lanyard for 10 samples costs only $70, and $85 for 15 samples. The sampler lanyard is valid at every station, making each item’s price between $5.66 and $7.00. As an important reminder, there is a difference in serving portions between the sampler lanyard and purchasing a la carte. However, it’s still an excellent deal considering the savings and variety.

As we come to our review, our recommendations are listed in ascending order of food and beverage stations following the map for your convenience. They consist of our top choices for must-tries, and there are quite a few! We have rated these offerings on quality, quantity, and worthiness of your hard-earned dollar. Duck Confit

As a fan of Duck, this plate certainly stood out, considering that you don’t often find a duck entree in a theme park. The meat itself is tender, with nicely crisped skin. It also has a good fattiness, adding a creamy texture to the carrots, celery, and beans it’s paired with. The inclusion of the vegetable medley also elevates the dish to resemble a complete meal.

Sweet Sips

Passionate Cupcake

Sweet Sips is a popular station with plenty of returning favorites. New this year is the Passionate Cupcake. Much like the station’s other selections, this adult cupcake is enough for two to share and worthy of the asking price. The base has a nice density and is very passionfruit-forward in flavor. The whipped mousse topping has a gentle but notable peach schnapps taste, reminding guests that this is very much an adult selection.

Overall, the Passionate Cupcake has an excellent flavor and stands as the best new dessert at the festival this year.

Irish Market

Bangers and Mash

As a fan of authentic bangers and mash, you can’t beat the real thing. With that out of the way, SeaWorld’s bangers and mash come in a close second.

While the dish does not prominently feature Guinness in its flavor profile, the essence is still present and works in the overall concept. The sausage is notable for its excellent texture and thorough smoking, while the mashed potatoes exhibit a delightfully whipped consistency, serving as a tasty complement to both the sausage and the gravy. Additionally, the inclusion of peas introduces a welcome touch of freshness, contributing to a well-rounded dish. The portion is also generous for the price, making it a great “bang” for your buck.

Asian Market

Elderflower Mule

This cocktail is one of the best I’ve had at this event over the years. While ginger beer can be a divisive ingredient, it’s nicely rounded out by the elderflower liquor. Both allow it to stand out as a refreshing drink that tantalizes the senses due to the ginger beer’s natural traits. I’ll also add that it’s dangerously delicious, as you can barely taste its potency. I’d place this at the top of anyone’s list of worthwhile drinks for your visit to SeaWorld during this event.

Concerts at Seven Seas Food Festival

On top of the incredible culinary spread at SeaWorld’s Seven Seas Food Festival, the event also includes amazing concerts as part of your experience. The live performances occur every Saturday and Sunday during the festival and feature artists across various genres, like Ludacris, Gloria Gaynor, Hoobastank, and more. Guests wanting to include a show of this type in their visit will want to arrive early as Bayside Stadium can fill quickly. Of course, the more popular the headliner, the greater the priority, so we suggest treating this as you would a parade.

SeaWorld Orlando offers nifty concert upgrades for guests’ convenience, like Reserved Stadium, Floor, and Premium Seating. These are excellent options for anyone wanting to avoid the crowds and simply enjoy the show of their choosing. The seating upgrades range from $35.99 plus tax for Stadium Seating to $64.99 plus tax for Premium Seating. Each can vary daily and is dependant on the artist, so be sure to check the site if this is an interest for you.

With so many options, we took on the task of picking out our favorite choices to help guide your taste buds.

Christmas Celebration Festive Food & Seasonal Sips Sampling Lanyard

Maximize your experience at SeaWorld Orlando with a Festive Food & Seasonal Sips Sampling Lanyard. The Sampling Lanyards are valid for use on SeaWorld Orlando’s Christmas Celebration food, as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Not only is it convenient, but the Sampling Lanyard will help save money at the park’s culinary stations.

Day guests can purchase a five-sample lanyard for $45 or a ten-sample lanyard for $60 at any of the 18 stations in the park. SeaWorld Orlando Annual Passholders have an exclusive option for a twelve-sample lanyard at the ten-item price.

You can also reduce the cost of your visit by purchasing discounted admission to SeaWorld Orlando through Orlando Informer and have more to spend on gifts under the tree.

‘Tis The Season Beignets

Strawberries and Creme Beignets

Upon the first bite, the beignets had a wonderfully soft and airy texture similar to a donut. They weren’t overly sweet, considering they were garnished with powder and drizzled with Bavarian cream and strawberry puree. The beignet bites are meticulously crafted to allow the tastes of both the strawberry puree and Bavarian cream to stand out.

Beignets are often known for their messiness due to the confectionery sugar, but these pleasantly defied expectations—surprisingly easy to eat without any mess. The sampler dish included three, which was a perfect size for me to share with my partner, though I was tempted to keep them all for myself.

Windermere Brewing Cranberry Graham Cracker Sour Ale

I went in not knowing what to expect in terms of flavor and was surprised by its complexity. Despite the initial impression of unconventional and intricate flavors, they work expertly together in a delicious blend. The cranberry brought in the sourness while the graham cracker and beer emphasized hoppiness.

Overall, if you enjoy sour, interesting beers, I would definitely recommend this one.

Christmas Comforts

Bison Burger

As this is a returning favorite, the Bison Burger deserves a dedicated place on our list. Despite the line, the wait was absolutely worth it.

What I expected to be a slider-size sample turned out to be a full-sized burger. It comes with a syringe full of hot cheddar cheese that oozed over the sides, bringing a fun addition to the experience. The flavors were exciting as the bacon onion jam unleashed a sweetness that danced with the char-grilled flavors of the burger.

Corn Chowder

The corn chowder had a nice smoky flavor with a hint of garlic that wrapped the heartiness of the corn, potatoes, and peppers like a warm present. It’s an easy, on-the-go sample to share that had a creamy texture that compliments the rest of the flavors. The Corn Chowder makes for a delightful choice on those cool December days.

Not Santa’s Milk and Cookies

“Not Santa’s Milk and Cookies” is a delicious take on Saint Nick’s Christmas Eve treats. The RumChata is very present in the recipe, giving it a great punch of spirit alongside the sweet cream and cinnamon flavors, making it a worthy choice with the sampling lanyard or worth the asking price if you’re purchasing it on its own. As a pro tip, be sure to eat the gingersnap garnish it comes with as soon as you can. Delaying may result in it becoming a bit mushy at the bottom, so promptly savor this drink!

Holly Jolly Cookies and Cocoa

Hot Cocoa

It wouldn’t be Christmas at SeaWorld without a traditional hot cocoa for us. It’s a fan favorite and a welcomed warmth while walking around or sipping on during a show.

You can enjoy a festive cup on its own with your choice of Peppermint, Gingerbread, or Toasted Marshmallow that’s topped with a dollop of whipped cream. We went with the Toasted Marshmallow as it is our favorite, but you can choose whichever suits you. Guests 21 and over can also “make it jolly” with Peppermint Schnapps, Baileys Irish Cream, or Kahlua at an additional cost for a little extra Christmas cheer.

Sugarplum Delights

Gingerbread Martini

This cocktail was similar in flavor to the “Not Santa’s Milk and Cookies,” but it substitutes the gingersnap cookie for extra cinnamon and rum. The cinnamon sprinkle allowed the nose to play along, while the RumChata and gingerbread syrup delighted the taste buds. While it may offer a milder punch compared to its bolder sibling, it was still quite refreshing and presented a pleasing alternative that wasn’t so spirit-forward.

Festin’ Feliz

Pumpkin Lava Cake

We’ll just get this out of the way and tell you this thing is massive! SeaWorld isn’t shy about handing out solid servings this year and giving guests enough to share. The cream cheese topping played nicely with the pumpkin flavoring and caramel drizzle. While I’d qualify this more as a bundt cake rather than a lava cake due to the shape and plating, it is still a worthwhile sweet treat that’s a great bang for your buck as either part of the sampling lanyard items or purchased on its own.

Tequila Moonrise

In a delightful twist, this Tequila Moonrise drank more as a refresher or spritzer. The apple cider came forward first, followed by hints of tequila, making this drink a fun addition to this year’s menu.

Waffle Wonderland

Joyful Chicken and Waffle

As a Southerner, I always have room for chicken and waffles, which SeaWorld’s creation didn’t disappoint. The waffle was made fresh right at the counter, as were the crispy chicken tenders with which it was teamed. What truly sold this was the chutney and spicy honey that elevated the dish with a sweet heat that wasn’t too hot and was delicious!

The Joyful Chicken and Waffle is served as a sandwich, which proved to be a bit ambitious for me to take on. With that said, don’t be afraid to disassemble it if needed.

Festive BBQ Pulled Pork and Waffle

SeaWorld once again comes through with its generous portions! The Festive BBQ Pulled Pork and Waffle filled the plate and was loaded with tender pulled pork and coleslaw. The crunch of the coleslaw is a classic combo with the smokiness of the pulled pork. The hot honey action in this dish introduced a perfect balance of sweet heat that elevated the pulled pork sandwich to a whole new level!

Castaway Falls is part of Adventure Island’s largest expansion since the waterpark opened its doors in 1980. Themed meet-and-greets are common at any theme park, but where else can you interact with the North Pole’s star buck, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer? This photo opportunity features life-size storybook vignettes of the classic stop-motion tale throughout its queue and set. Along with Rudolph, guests can also meet Bumble, the famed abominable snow monster.

Photos With Santa Claus

What’s Christmas without Santa Claus? Jolly Saint Nick can be found near Wild Arctic during SeaWorld Orlando’s Christmas Celebration event days. Guests of all ages can speak with Father Christmas and share their holiday wishes. Santa’s appearance times may vary, so it’s best to keep an eye on the show schedule during the event via the Official SeaWorld App.

Anyone wanting to add a little extra magic to their visit can also opt for the Dinner with Santa Claus package. While guests can meet Santa at no charge, the add-on experience has a starting cost of $43.99 plus tax for adults and $15.99 plus tax for children ages three to nine. Included in the dinner is an all-you-can-eat holiday meal with Santa that features the likes of turkey breast, pork loin, Yukon Potatoes, as well as a kids buffet filled with classics like chicken tenders and corn dogs.

It’s Christmas time on Sesame Street, and everyone has their wish list! Everyone except for Elmo, that is. Throughout the show, Cookie Monster, Rosalita, Grover, and Zoe sing their wishes to help inspire Elmo as they cover Christmas hits in an unforgettable performance.

Elmo’s Christmas Wish takes place during select hours of the day, so keep up with SeaWorld Orlando’s show schedule for the times.

Mrs. Claus’ Magic Kitchen

Location: Seaport Theater

Mrs. Claus is well-known as the original Christmas cookie baker, don’t you know? Santa’s charged one of his most trusted elves, Kirby, to set up a web series showcasing Mrs. Claus’ baking skills. Seaport Theater’s interactive show has audience members taking “elfies” with Santa’s Helpers and helping Mrs. Claus in the pop-up kitchen. Guests attending SeaWorld Orlando’s newest holiday show will experience laughter, magic, and “just a hint of chaos,” making it a must-see this year.

On select dates, SeaWorld also celebrates Kwanzaa. The returning event educates guests about Kwanzaa’s history and traditions during an outdoor performance. The host will speak on the holiday’s principles as they light the kinara nightly in Sesame Street Land. Similarly to the park’s Hanukkah celebration, guests interested will want to refer to SeaWorld Orlando’s show schedule for its show times.

New Year’s Eve

December 31

As part of the holiday festivities, SeaWorld Orlando has a fitting way to ring in the new year. The park will present a festive show of lights, pyrotechnics, and high-energy music on New Year’s Eve. The performance features a dazzling spectacle of fireworks and projections in unison with the park’s signature Sea of Trees and can be seen throughout the park.

As of now, SeaWorld Orlando’s show schedule indicates that it occurs just before the park’s closing time, but it is advisable to verify the current show schedule during your visit.

Three Kings Celebration

January 5 – 7

During SeaWorld Orlando’s Three Kings Celebration, the park goes all out with food, shows, and music. Discovery Cove is one of the best experiences Orlando has to offer. This all-inclusive escape from reality is unlike anything else you’ll find in the City Beautiful. Within its borders is a tropical paradise secluded from the bustle of its surroundings, where guests can eat, drink, swim, and sway the day away. This day resort offers guests the opportunity to meet some of nature’s most awesome animals and get to know how they’re taken care of while gaining a better understanding of them.

Bottlenose Dolphins

While a wide array of birds and mammals await you as part of the Discovery Cove Resort Package during your visit, others are available as part of an upgraded experience, like their famous Animal Trek and Shark Swim packages. As big fans of Discovery Cove, we wanted to share some of our favorite animals that reside at the park and how you can meet them.

Taking a glance at their logo, Discovery Cove is expected to feature a porpoise or two on the list of animals you can find. As such, the resort is home to a pod of Bottlenose Dolphins. Guests wishing to meet them can do so by purchasing the Discovery Cove Resort Package with Dolphin Swim, which includes a meet-and-greet with one of them, and a memorable photo opportunity, and “swim” session. While this is the only way to have an up-close interaction, guests can always catch them doing tricks and swimming throughout the day from the shore of Dolphin Lagoon.

As a pro tip, those interested in purchasing the Dolphin Swim package will want to remember to be at the resort during the start of check-in, which is at 7:30 AM daily. This may seem a bit early, especially when you’re on vacation, but doing so will help ensure the best selection of return times to select from for your interaction and photo session. Take it from this writer– Florida sunlight can be intrusive that afternoon. If you opt for a more leisurely morning, no need to fret! Return times are typically still available if you arrive later than 7:30 AM.

Reef Sharks

Imagine swimming alongside some of nature’s most fearsome-looking predators. Shark fans visiting Discovery Cove can face their fears while living in the thrill of encountering reef sharks with their Shark Swim upgrade! This package takes place in the resort’s Grand Reef, home to four species of reef sharks: Blacktip Reef, Nurse, Zebra, and Bonnetheads. Each is unique from the other and a necessary part of the ocean’s vast ecosystem. While they can reach upwards of 12 feet in length, don’t worry – Discovery Cove’s trained experts will teach guests why they shouldn’t fear them right away, their care at the resort, and that there’s more to them than meets the eye.

Discovery Cove’s Shark Swim upgrade begins at $169 plus tax. Those interested will be proud of their purchase knowing that five percent of the proceeds go towards the Guy Harvey Foundation, which helps fund oceanic scientific research and educational programs. Alternatively, shark enthusiasts wanting to simply catch a view of the park’s 20+ reef sharks can also do so via a plexiglass window in the Grand Reef.

Rays

One of the easiest ways to meet one of Discovery Cove’s many aquatic denizens is to simply head over to the Grand Reef. Here, visitors will come across one of the biggest and most energetic creatures on the property – rays! Of the two varieties, the park has six Southern Rays, which are famously massive in size, and 34 speedy Cownose Rays. Both tend to swim across the entirety of the Grand Reef, but the Southern Rays tend to stick to the deeper, more spacious end while the Cownose will usually be found near the shore.

While the opportunity to interact and take pictures with the rays of the Grand Reef is included, Discovery Cove offers an upgrade that allows guests to assist in their morning feeding. This typically takes place at around 8:30 AM and has a starting price of $59 plus tax.

Moray Eels

If you swim far enough through the Grand Reef’s waters, you’ll come across a hidden grotto full of some amazing moray eels. As impressive as they appear, one cannot deny the incredible photos you can snag of them lurking from the crevices of the habitat they call home. These eels live with friends like the Balloon and Lion Fish behind the plexiglass of their designated reef area. Interestingly, moray eels tend to vary in appearance, either covered in spots or blended into their surroundings.

As the Grand Reef is this writer’s favorite aspect of Discovery Cove due to how many animal encounters are available here, I can say that readers will want to cover every corner of it. Those in search of its eels will want to swim along the right side of the Grand Reef as the tank is built into the reef’s walls.

Asian Small-Clawed Otter

The Freshwater Oasis has been a part of Discovery Cove since 2012. From its opening, it’s been home to one of the most adorable creatures you’ll find on the park’s property: the Asian Small-Clawed Otter. These clever critters can be found scampering, swimming, and playing with the rest of their romp at just about any time of the day. While guests can’t directly interact with them, the otters will sometimes swim right up to the viewing glass. Even when they aren’t up close, there are still plenty of moments guests can take advantage of for some cute photos to take home.

As the Freshwater Oasis is part of their habitat, taking in the sight of the Asian Small-Claw Otters is included as part of the Day Resort Package experience. In addition to their play times, there are also “enrichment sessions” that take place. These vary daily but can be found in the Discovery Cove app.

Geoffrey’s Marmosets

Discovery Cove’s Freshwater Oasis is also home to Geoffrey’s Marmosets. These playful, small monkeys are easily recognized by their puffy, white manes surrounding their tiny faces. Their habitat, Marmoset Island, features tons of bridges, houses, and hammocks for them to lounge, play, and leap between. A moat surrounds their open-air home that they may approach closely but never cross.

During certain hours of the day, guests can also speak with one of the resort’s zoological professionals who can inform them about the resident marmosets. These times, as well as their enrichment hours, can be found via the Discovery Cove app.

Parrots

Within the Explorer’s Aviary of Discovery Cove are hundreds of members of 12 species of birds. One of the most amazing types are Parrots. The most popular of these is the colorful Macaw, which can be seen in the blue and red varieties. However, there are many other parrots as well, like Sun Conures and Cockatiels. When they aren’t found in the free-flying sanctum, this writer will usually find the latter when floating along the intersecting streams of the Wind-Away River.

Guests wanting a more up-close encounter will want to opt for the Animal Trek upgrade. Like many of the other animals, the thirty-minute experience includes an informative photo session with one of Discover Cove’s Macaws. Additionally, there are also moments when one of these feathery friends can be found during an Avian Animal Connections session in the park.

Sloths

Of the list of nature’s wondrous creatures seen at Discovery Cove, one of the most unique is the Two-Toed Sloth. The park is home to both the Linnaeu’s and Hoffman’s varieties. While they don’t have a publicly accessible habitat, they can be seen during the park’s Animal Connection sessions and as part of the Animal Trek upgrade. During either opportunity, guests can ask the handling expert anything they’d like to learn about the leisurely critters.

The Two-Toed Sloth spends its entire life hanging upside down from trees and is incapable of walking. While guests of Discovery Cove aren’t able to hold or carry them, they are able to take photos with them.

Anteaters

Another one of the more uncommon animals that Discovery Cove is home to is the Southern Tamandua, or “anteaters” as they’re commonly called. Much like other animals found across their family of parks, these are usually brought in by the parent company’s conservation partners. Similar to the sloths, their habitat isn’t accessible to the general public. However, anyone wanting to meet a Southern Tamandua (and seriously, who wouldn’t?) has a few options. Southern Tamanduas are sometimes part of upgrades like Animal Trek and Trainer for a Day, like Celeste who is their newest resident. They can also be seen as one of the spotlighted mammals during the Animal Connections sessions.

Eastern Screech Owl

Among the many feathered friends you’ll make at the resort, the Eastern Screech Owl stands out among the rest. While they’re called “Screech Owls,” these birds have two kinds of calls that aren’t actually screeches. The first is called a “tremolo,” an even-pitched trill typically used between mates. The other is a “whinny,” which has been compared to the sound of a high-pitched, tiny horse. Their most recent Eastern Screech Owls is Henry, a displaced rescue brought in with his family by the Audobahn Center for Birds of Prey. While his family could return to the wild, he had to remain due to his beak not developing correctly. Thankfully, he now has a home at Discovery Cove with some of the best caretakers he could have happened upon.

Interacting with owls like Henry is minimal due to his species’ nature. However, this allows you to capture memorable moments through photography, making it a unique and enjoyable experience. Like many other animals at Discovery Cove, anyone wanting to meet Henry can have the opportunity as part of the Animal Trek upgrade.

Discovery Cove is Orlando, Florida’s hidden treasure that feels as if it’s miles away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It’s a one-of-a-kind escape from reality that transports its guests to an island getaway without ever needing to leave Orlando.

The Adventurer

The Adventurer is the kind of guest who wants those once-in-a-lifetime experiences. They live for the thrills and love walking away with a story to tell. They want tales that will excite others. Guests who fall under this category can see the world from unique perspectives, partake in hands-on animal interactions such as ray feeding, and even stroll among some of the ocean’s most fearsome beasts.

When visiting Discovery Cove, the Adventurer will be at home in the Grand Reef, which is an incredible experience that’s included with the cost of admission. Guests don the complimentary snorkel gear and enter the 76-degree waters. Once in, they’ll find themselves swimming alongside vibrantly colored tropical fish and majestic rays of all sizes. Further into the Grand Reef, they can swim right up to tanks holding reef sharks, eels, and balloon fish. Those wanting to up the ante might be interested in the Shark Swim, which teams guests up with the resort’s experts as enter the habitat holding the aforementioned reef sharks.

As awesome as this sounds, however, it’s arguable that one of their best options is Discovery Cove’s SeaVenture upgrade. Starting at $49 per person, this option allows guests to equip astronaut-like diving helmets as they descend twelve feet to the Grand Reef’s floor and walk amongst its inhabitants.

The Vacationer

If you’re the go-with-the-flow type, this one will speak to you. The Vacationer abides by the tides of the day as schedules are less of a contractual “to-do” list and more of a set of guidelines for their experience. They define checking out of reality and checking into paradise. You can usually catch them swaying the day away in a choice hammock or carelessly floating along the most remarkable streams. Luxury is a fine art they’ve become connoisseurs of, and if a single phrase were to sum them up, it’s “work hard, relax harder.”

In our opinion, Serenity Bay or the Wind-Away River are the best places for the Vacationer. Along Serenity Bay’s sandy beach are lounge chairs and hammocks to relax in, and the Bay’s wade pool doubles as an introduction to the resort’s signature river. After wading through the waterfall-draped cove, guests will discover that they’ve been whisked away to the streams of a tropical rainforest.

Readers who relate to this personality but would prefer to lie in the lap of opulence can opt for their choice of cabanas. They’re offered in three options: Private (starting at $299 plus tax), Elite (starting at $499 plus tax), and VIP (starting at $899 plus tax). Each has an excellent value to their price to give guests a truly stress-free time.

The Foodie

This person is about the internal experience of their day. A good meal is more than simply fuel for the body, it’s a reward for the soul. They appreciate decadence and love being spoiled. They see the care put into the plate presented to them by their host and understand the finer side of the culinary arts. When challenged to find the best entree to appease an appetite on any menu, they readily accept it and come back with the perfect choice and with a complimenting beverage. Their most cherished memories involve being surrounded by their closest friends and family, entertaining conversations, and a lovingly prepared meal.

The hub of Discovery Cove’s culinary offerings is the Laguna Grill. Here, guests are provided an all-you-can-eat array of freshly cooked meals for both breakfast and lunch. This includes different styles of eggs, sandwiches, and desserts. When guests get peckish throughout the day, they can stop off at any of the additional food stands for snacks, soft drinks, pizza, pretzels, beer, and wine.

The resort is always looking to innovate its offerings, and as of this article, they’ve introduced their new Blue Bamboo Bar and Hibiscus Hideaway stand. The latter offers both BBQ and Margarita style flatbreads alongside their usual menu, which are a satisfying, yet lighter fare to revitalize your body after swimming all day.

The Foodie may also be interested in upgrading their visit with the Premium Drink Package, which features a full selection of mixed, signature, and frozen drinks at a starting price of $40 plus tax.

The Nature Lover

Readers who sync up with the Nature Lover see the world for the bigger picture that it is. They’re aware of the deeper connections between the smallest insect and the largest marine mammal and acknowledge where we fit in. They’re would-be animal whisperers who gain fulfillment by nourishing their curiosity toward the creature kingdom. They possess nearly free reign of the resort’s property as a great experience awaits them just about anywhere within the park. Undoubtedly, upon entering Discovery Cove, they’ll instinctively make their way to Explorer’s Aviary – where they can take a pause in its open airways and take in awe of free-flying birds – or the Freshwater Oasis, home to the park’s Asian-Clawed Otters.

The go-to upgrades for the Animal Lover include some of the most up-close and interactive ones that Discovery Cove offers. The Animal Trek, which starts at $89 plus tax, takes guests on a thirty-minute tour to a private oasis to meet some resident birds and their Animal Ambassadors, such as anteaters, kinkajous, or sloths.

The resort’s most popular upgrade, The Signature Dolphin Swim, would be right up their alley. On top of what’s already included with the general admission price, guests will participate in a one-on-one swimming session and photos with the park’s resident dolphins for an unforgettable experience.

Anyone in this category wishing to fulfill their dreams of being an honorary Discovery Cove Trainer can opt for the Trainer for a Day upgrade. This entitles guests to a second, behind-the-scenes dolphin interaction, a meet and greet with small mammals and tropical birds, a visit to the Freshwater Oasis’ otters, and a fish-feeding experience in the Grand Reef. There’s no doubt about it – Busch Gardens Tampa Bay knows their thrill rides! While it wasn’t the park’s original focus, over time they’ve become experts on the matter and home to a number of unique and award-winning roller coasters. Anyone considering adding a trip to SeaWorld Orlando’s sister park while visiting Orlando should do so, especially with the premiere of their newest thrill ride, Serengeti Flyer! On that note, it’s worth stepping back for a better look at what they offer in the name of thrills – namely, roller coasters.

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay features 10 roller coasters across its property. While those like Sheikra or Cheetah Hunt can seem intimidating, the park offers a level of coaster for just about everyone. It was actually here that this author was indoctrinated as a roller coaster fan. As such, along with the rankings, I’ll guide any readers who may still be on their path to coaster fandom. The coasters will be ranked in descending order of their Thrill Factor – that is to say, each coaster’s intensity – with the lowest ranking being “1” and “5” as the highest, naturally. It’s worth highlighting that the level of thrill doesn’t determine the overall enjoyment of each attraction, as every ride promises a truly memorable experience.

Now then, strap in and join us on the safari!

Iron Gwazi

Location: Morocco
Peak: 206 feet
Max Speed: 76 miles per hour
Thrill Factor: 5

Between 1999 and 2015, Gwazi was a dual-track, all-wooden coaster inspired by a “battle between a lion and tiger.” The coaster’s trains followed similar paths to each other in opposite directions in a “dueling” fashion until its closure in 2015. Flash forward to 2022, and after much anticipation, Busch Gardens confirmed its return as Iron Gwazi.

Iron Gwazi received several upgrades from its former state. It is now a wooden-steel hybrid with hefty increases in its speed, peak, and overall track length. As it sits, its current stats earn it the title of tallest hybrid coaster in the United States. Although it’s tied for that same ranking globally, it does stand as the fastest, steepest coaster of its kind in the world. This makes perfect sense, given its introductory 91-degree drop from its 206-foot peak! Upon its redesign, Rocky Mountain Construction added in a few new additions to its feats, such as a zero-g stall and a downward barrel roll, the latter of which helps Iron Gwazi in staying true to its bestial theme of a crocodile. As Busch Gardens is all about conservation efforts, the queue features related data and information about the aquatic reptile.

This thrill maintained a spot among the Top 50 rankings for Top Wooden Roller Coaster in its former state between 2002 and 2007 and again in 2010. When it officially reopened, Iron Gwazi received Amusement Today’s Golden Ticket Award for Top Steel Roller Coasters of 2022.

Sheikra

Location: Stanleyville
Peak: 200 feet
Max Speed: 70 miles per hour
Thrill Factor: 5

If you ever find yourself in Stanleyville at Busch Gardens Tampa, it’s likely that you’ve come within inches of being soaked from a certain hawk-themed coaster. Sheikra would be that culprit, and you’d be remiss not to get seated on the giving end of that trailblazer. The dive coaster’s namesake, “Shikra,” is a hawk known for its downward dive upon its prey, which the ride mimics wonderfully.

After boarding the train, the floor drops as it begins its climb to the 200-foot peak, where guests are dangled precariously in Sheikra’s talons. The train is then released 195 feet at a 90-degree angle into its flight. The experience features an Immelmann loop, deep curves, a tunnel descent, and an all-too-familiar splash-down finale. Oh – did we mention you endure a 90-degree plummet twice?

Sheikra is an exhilarating roller coaster and not for the faint of heart. Since opening in 2005, it tied for 4th as Amusement Today‘s Best New Ride and has been consistently found among the Top Fifty Steel Roller Coasters between 2005 and 2014. Stanleyville’s star attraction is also considered to be North America’s first dive coaster and, in turn, the first to feature a 90-degree drop. It also introduced splash-downs, which are common among water rides, to the coaster genre. When it opened in 2005, Sheikra stood as the tallest, fastest, and longest dive coaster ever built and only lost that title in 2007 to Griffon at the park’s Williamsburg sibling.

Montu

Location: Egypt
Peak: 150 feet
Maximum Speed: 60 miles per hour
Thrill Factor: 4.5

Montu draws its name from the Egyptian Falcon-God of War. While it’s difficult to mimic anything resembling a diety, especially one meant to represent war and the burning rays of the Sun God Rah, this ride hits the marks to do its namesake poetic justice. As it’s a floorless coaster, Montu makes its riders feel as if they’re soaring above an Egyptian village.

The track begins at the ride’s 150-foot peak, descending into a 128-foot drop. Guests will endure seven inversions, including a 90-foot Immelmann loop, a unique 60-foot batwing inversion, two vertical loops, a zero-g roll, and a corkscrew. Its movements portray a protective warrior patrolling over its people. While that’s clearly in a figurative sense, Montu is sure to give its guests a breathtaking experience.

Upon its debut, Montu broke records and won the hearts of park-goers almost immediately as it won Third Place as Amusement Today’s Top 50 Steel Coasters. It opened in 1996 as the world’s tallest, fastest, inverted coaster and was the first coaster to incorporate an Immelmann loop into its scheme. Since Amusement Today‘s inaugural issue over 25 years ago, Montu has even been found among its top thirty Steel Coasters, giving it a bit of a legendary status among its peers.

Cheetah Hunt

Locations: Edge of Africa
Peak: 102 feet
Maximum Speed: 60 miles per hour
Thrill Factor: 4

Cheetah Hunt is a multi-launch coaster that utilizes a Linear Synchronous Motor system (put simply, anyone unfamiliar with it can think “magnetic launch system.”). From the beginning, guests are propelled into the ride experience at 30 miles per hour, then to the ride’s maximum of 60 miles per hour to reach its windcatcher tower segment, and once more from 25 to 40 miles per hour thereafter. The roar of a Cheetah signals each launch and occurs across 4,425 feet of track, part of which crosses into the Serengeti Plain portion of the park.

Moving on to the technical aspects, Cheetah Hunt performs several S and over-banked curves as well as a heartline roll, which allows it to mimic a cheetah on the prowl. Towards the end, the train sways across a shallow embankment as if imitating a cheetah chasing its prey across a shallow embankment that was once part of the former home to Rhino Ralley.

Cheetah Hunt is a solid intermediate-level coaster as it holds some impressive accomplishments: It placed Second as Amusement Today’s Golden Ticket Winner for Best New Ride of 2011 and has ranked among the prestigious magazine’s Top Fifty Steel Roller Coasters from 2014 to 2019 and again in 2021. It’s also one of two roller coasters in existence to feature a windcatcher tower as part of the ride’s track.

Kumba

Location: Congo
Peak: 143 feet
Maximum Speed: 60 miles per hour
Thrill Factor: 3

When Kumba was first announced in 1993, Busch Gardens Tampa’s goal for their third roller coaster was to set standards within the industry– and boy did it! Upon opening, it featured seven inversions and held the industry record for the tallest vertical loop at 114 feet found in a roller coaster for its time and debuted as Florida’s tallest, fastest, and longest roller coaster. Kumba held these titles until the opening of Montu a few short years later. Among its list of inversions, riders will partake in a cobra roll, a zero-g roll, interlocking corkscrews, and a helix. As if that didn’t satisfy your inner adrenaline junkie, Kumba’s ride experience also includes moments of weightlessness.

Aside from its physical traits, Kumba has an impressive reputation that precedes it. After it opened, park attendance increased by about 13%, and park management praised it highly as it also consistently maintained high placements in the rankings among its peers. It took Fourth Place in Amusement Today’s Top 50 Steel Roller Coasters the year it premiered and can often be seen among their Top 30, similar to Montu.

Comparing it to its siblings, Kumba can be called an intermediate coaster. It’s not very intense but still holds some exciting traits, which makes it the perfect crossover for anyone wanting to take their coaster fandom to the next level.

Tigris

Location: Stanleyville
Peak: 150 feet
Maximum Speed: 62 miles per hour
Thrill Factor: 3

Tigris is the youngest coaster among its siblings and offers a simple, yet enjoyable experience for park guests. It utilizes a launching function and back-and-forward motion to propel their guests through an in-line twist and non-inverting loop. The attraction provides a fun experience as it completes its loop in either direction, the reverse of which feels as if you’re being sent into the thrilling unknown.

When it was first built in 2019, Tigris stood as the tallest launch coaster in Florida. While that isn’t the case any longer, it still holds a very close second, given its 150-foot peak. This would be a great beginning coaster for anyone venturing out of the “family-friendly” genre and wanting something just a little more thrilling.

Cobra’s Curse

Location: Egypt
Peak: 70 feet
Maximum Speed: 40 miles per hour
Thrill Factor: 2

As one of the park’s latest thrill attractions, Cobra’s Curse is Florida’s first family spin coaster and is unique in its own right. It’s likely the most heavily themed attraction on the park’s property as it features its own backstory based on King Venymyss. Put simply, Venymyss was the snake king who ruled over his kingdom benevolently. He provided his people with many blessings and was beloved until he eventually became corrupted. His people turned on him, breaking the magical statue that imbued him with his power leading him to curse anyone who would rebuild it. Flash forward to the current day and, as per theme park lore rules, guests have found themselves on an archeological expedition to do just that!

Where Cobra’s Curse’s family-friendly focus lacks in intensity, it more than makes up for in just about all of its other stats. In addition to its heavily themed queue, the ride’s housing includes a 400 cubic foot section meant to educate visitors about snakes. This can be found in the same projection room where King Venymyss narrates the ride’s backstory. After entering the ride, guests face with an 80-foot tall, 30,000 pound likeness of the snake king before enduring his curse. Once on their perilous journey, the trains’ unique spinning capabilities rely on the weight distribution within each cart, making every ride experience distinct from the other.

Since it is a family coaster, this is a great introductory ride for those visiting the park with the little ones or anyone looking for low-level thrills. It provides an incredibly fleshed-out backstory and an experience that can be different each time guests ride.

Scorpion

Location: Pantopia
Peak: 61 feet
Maximum Speed: 41 miles per hour
Thrill Factor: 2

Scorpion holds the title as the park’s oldest standing roller coaster as it’s been in operation since 1980. This gives it a legacy as Pantopia’s opening attraction back when the park section was known as Timbuktu. Considering its age, Scorpion has always maintained a status as a guest favorite, which makes sense. The Pantopian beast features a 39-foot vertical loop and self-entwined pretzel twists as well as a 900-degree helix, all of which impressively within its compact footprint of 1,818 feet.

I may be biased on this one as it was where I dipped my toes into the thrill-ride fandom, but Scorpion is arguably the perfect beginner-level coaster. Its ride duration isn’t very long, or too extreme as it only has a single inversion, a fun helix, and the speed will match the car ride home. If one of these attractions were to welcome you into being a coaster fiend, this would be the one to do so.

Air Grover

Location: Sesame Street Safari of Fun – Africa
Peak: 24 feet
Maximum Speed: 22 miles per hour
Thrill Factor: 1

Located in the park’s Africa section, guests and their families will find the Sesame Street Safari of Fun. Within that division is a junior coaster themed after everyone’s favorite self-described “cute, fuzzy little monster” – Air Grover! Take flight with the little ones and Grover as your trusted pilot as you embark on a fun jaunt over the desert plains. After departing the hangar, the biplane-themed train ascends to the ride’s 24-foot peak and begins its tour. The track has some fun curves and tricks in its short duration. Guests will experience a 22-foot drop, tight turns at a 45-degree angle, and two helixes at 540 and 360 degrees, respectively.

It tickles me that it features Grover giving a “thumbs-up” at the head of the train as if reassuring us despite his well-intended-yet-erratic nature. As there are zero inversions and goes at a tame speed, this is another excellent family coaster attraction.

Consistently considered one of the highest-rated parks in Orlando, Discovery Cove is a hidden, tropical oasis within the hustle and bustle of the City Beautiful. It’s an all-inclusive escape from reality and a rare find in our corner of the world. The park is quite easy to explore independently, with plenty of opportunities to enjoy a self-guided visit. With that in mind, allow us to give you some pointers in maximizing your day from what is easily considered a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Arrive early

Discovery Cove is meant to be experienced at each guest’s leisure. However, there should be some emphasis on getting there early. Check-in at the resort begins at 7:15 A.M. Even though Discovery Coveis certainly never crowded due to its daily capacity limit, there are perks to entering the park early. Once settled in, you can leisurely enjoy your day. Please note that for upgraded experiences like the Signature Dolphin Swim, it’s best to schedule it in the morning. The reservation times for their upgrade offerings are given on a first-come, first-served basis. This means that the earlier you are, the better your return time options will be for those photos – more on that later.

Even if yours is a Day Resort Package, arriving early also has some additional benefits. Early guests will have ample time to find a locker, collect their complimentary equipment, and get changed. They’ll also have an opportunity to get accustomed to the park and sort out where they’d like to begin while grabbing a bite to eat before the waterways open at 9 A.M. If readers want my lead, I always start by drifting along the Wind Away River, but there’s nothing wrong with simply swaying into the day with a beverage and a choice hammock.

Know what to bring and what is provided

Included with the price of admission is a slew of entitlements. Guests are provided complimentary lockers, towels, and shower facilities, as well as vests, wetsuits, snorkels, swim masks, and floatation device rentals. During their visit, sunscreen is highly recommended for everyone as you’ll be outdoors for most of the time. While it is provided, we know some guests may prefer to bring their own, so just be sure it’s an animal-friendly option for the safety of the resort’s residents.

Speaking of what guests need to bring, it’s best to pack minimally and only take the essentials. This includes a government-issued identification such as a driver’s license or passport for everyone aged 18 and older, completed waivers for any minors in the family, and a credit or debit card that can be linked to the lanyard provided by the park at check-in.

Lastly, you’ll want to bring your bathing suit, along with a dry change of clothes. The latter is very important as Discovery Cove is still a water park by definition, and changing out of wet clothes will ensure your comfort as you head home. A submersible camera is also strongly suggested so you can take time to capture those cherished memories without having to worry.

Come Hungry

Meal budgeting is always a top priority when planning a park visit, and managing your appetite can make your overall experience even more enjoyable. Thankfully, Discovery Cove has you covered! The park’s centerpiece restaurant, Laguna Grill, serves breakfast from 7:30 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. after which they’ll serve lunch from 11 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.

During their operating hours, guests will be served freshly prepared foods such as eggs, bacon, and french toast sticks for breakfast. Lunch features burgers, sandwiches, and salads, along with some tasty side and dessert choices. Soft drinks, juice, beer, and wine are also available throughout the day to wash it down.

Guests also have the delicious option of Hibiscus Hideaway, which is available from 10:30 A.M. through 4:30 P.M. Enjoy a variety of flatbread pizzas and cool off with soft serve ice cream and Icees. If you are looking for something to snack on, head over to the Blue Bamboo Bar for chips, fruit, pretzels, and cookies. For the adults in your party who are over the legal drinking age, they can enjoy beer and wine included in their day at the day resort.

Personally, this entitlement never misses me. I arrive with an empty belly and make sure to take complete advantage of all they offer. I fuel up at Laguna Grill by filling my plate at least twice and snagging any snacks and beverages I desire in between. As a pro-tip here, I’d suggest arriving at the start of each meal time at the grill. Everyone is always welcome to find their own path to paradise, but it’s not uncommon for the middle hours of both breakfast and lunch to be busier.

Visit the Aviary in the morning

Located just past the waterfalls of Wind Away River is a hidden gem within the bliss of Discovery Cove. Explorer’s Aviary is an open area where various species of our feathered friends from all over the globe fly freely. This writer can spend literal hours just propped at the aviary’s bridge as I watch hundreds of vibrantly colored birds simply exist around me. I’ve even been lucky enough to catch some of them perched by the river’s entryway as I floated past Explorer’s Aviary.

Any readers wanting to maximize the opportunity for an Insta-worthy memory will want to stop in the aviary during optimum times. This means hopping over within the first two hours of Discovery Cove’s operation and grabbing one of their complimentary cups of bird feed.

Float along Wind Away River

Over at Wind Away River, guests are carried along streaming currents starting from a waterfall-draped cove, which transitions into a river flowing through a tropical rainforest. Guest will pass by Explorer’s Aviary and cruise by Freshwater Oasis, home to the resort’s family of Asian-Clawed Otters and Marmoset Island. Each has its own enrichment times, which can vary, but are presented within the Discovery Cove app – weather permitting, of course.

While body-surfing along the paradisal stream, you’ll want to remember that Wind Away River’s depth shifts from time to time. Thankfully, there’s always signage alerting you beforehand. When it does, you may want to dive as there are unique photo opportunities, such as ancient statues and shipwrecked cannons beneath the river’s crystal clear waters. Here’s a pro tip: ensure you have a waterproof camera with you to capture some incredible underwater photos!

Make time to explore The Grand Reef

The Grand Reef is one of the best highlights of Discovery Cove. The underwater scenery and sea life here are stunning, to say the least. Upon entry, guests will find themselves in awe as they swim alongside several species of tropical fish and three types of majestic rays. Exploring the reef will reward guests with additional viewing tanks of reef sharks, balloon fish, and eels. Venturing to the Grand Reef’s bridges and walkways will also grant an incredible view and an opportunity for memorable photo ops. For an added family experience, a nursery pool nearby houses the younger rays, shellfish, and even shark pups!

This will be where guests will get the most out of their submersible camera as they’ll capture some of the best moments from their day. It isn’t everywhere that you can swim side-by-side with a massive Southern Ray or hundreds of schools of vibrant fish! The water is kept at a constant 72 to 77 degrees throughout the year, which can be cold for some guests, and the wetsuit will help acclimate to the temperature faster.

Make note of the times for animal meet and greets

In addition to all they offer, Discovery Cove allows visitors to see and learn about exotic and endangered creatures at their Conservation Cabanas. With two locations, an Island and Reef station, the resort’s experts will hold special animal encounters to educate guests about some of the park’s critter residents. They range from one of the birds from the aviary to mammals like sloths. The times can vary depending on the day, but guests can find this information via the Discovery Cove app.

This is one of the best ways for families to maximize their experience at the resort. During these times, guests can interact with the starring animal and ask the experts any questions that come to mind. During one of my last visits, my wife and I met one of their resident kinkajous and learned a lot about their lives and how they’re cared for.

Consider upgrades

It’s truly impressive to think about all the wonderful inclusions that come with your Discovery Cove admission. However, there are plenty of exciting opportunities to enhance your visit! Guests can extend the fun to the resort’s sister parks like SeaWorld or Aquatica, or they can do some amazing things right there on the property.

Offers such as the Signature Dolphin Swim package give guests the rare opportunity to partake in an interactive photo session with the resort’s dolphins. Anyone celebrating an occasion such as a birthday can have one of their trained dolphins swim up with a message on a celebration buoy for an additional fee.

Their Shark Swim allows the more adventurous guests to swim with several types of reef sharks and gain a better understanding of them via an informative video. The best part of this upgrade is that five percent of the proceeds benefit the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation, which gives back to the beaches and oceans.

Possibly the most unique option, however, is the SeaVenture upgrade. Located in the Grand Reef, guests will go on a walking tour where they’ll see and feed some of its vibrant sea life in an awe-inspiring, up-close experience.

Guests who are more low-key but still want to indulge in some of the best also have great choices. Discovery Cove’s newest upgrade, The Flamingo Mingle, allows guests to take an early-morning stroll as part of the “flamboyance” of flamingos and assist with their feeding while they learn more about them. Similarly, they can also choose the Animal Trek upgrade, where they can partake in a private 30-minute tour behind the scenes to meet their birds and small mammals.

Guests can also expand their luxury offerings by renting a Day Bed or Cabana, or selecting a Premium Drink Package, which offers a full selection of signature, mixed and frozen cocktails.

Each of these ways is an incredible option. Wherever you land in the matter of maximizing your time, it’s sure to be the best day ever when you attend Discovery Cove.

That in mind, there are some relevant considerations here: given the price of each food or beverage item, anyone wishing to partake in anything more than a few beers and any of the food will likely find great value in purchasing the Craft Beer Festival Sampling Lanyard. Sampling lanyards are valid for the event’s food, alcoholic, and non-alcoholic food selections and come in two options for the general public: 8 Samples for $60 or 12 samples for $75. There’s also an offer for Annual Passholders that grants 15 food and beverage items at the cost of the 12 Sampler.

Since the event is centered around craft beer, with an emphasis on local breweries, the majority of our suggestions will entail our favorites in those categories. However, we also found some food and spirit hits as well! On that note, let’s get into our favorite items at SeaWorld Orlando’s Craft Beer Festival!

Flamecraft Bar

Brew Hub Key Lime Pie Sour

This Berliner Weisse is naturally light and crisp. While the base beer doesn’t stand out on its own, it doesn’t have to, as the key lime takes center stage. It’s a smooth drink with a lime-forward flavor and a pie-like finish with hints of graham cracker and whipped cream, which provide the namesake theme and allow it to feel like a treat.

Personally, this writer isn’t usually a big fan of anything lime-flavored. However, I found myself captivated by Brew Hub’s Key Lime Sour as it was very pleasant, refreshing, and reminded me of all the best traits of a key lime pie.

Barley and Barrel

Strawberry Whiskey Smash

What’s a summer festival without a refreshing cocktail? This Strawberry Whiskey Smash combines strawberries, lemon juice, Jameson Irish Whiskey and bitters to make a very refreshing libation. Some may expect the lemon juice to dominate in taste, but it actually helps elevate the strawberries’ flavor, which was the star of the recipe, as well as emphasize the whiskey tones throughout the Smash.

If you find yourself wanting to experience the festival, but you’re not too big on beer, this is a great option. It also provides a much-needed relief from those wonderful, sun-filled days that are known from Florida.

Lager Than Life

Brewlando Red Lake Irish Red

Brewlando’s Irish Red is an easy sipper as its palate is fruity with mild citrus notes. The malt and roasted barley are prominent within the flavor and contribute to the beer’s red color. While you may find some bitterness, it’s not a deal breaker in the least as it plays well with the caramel’s sweetness. This brings about a complexity to the ale that sets it apart from similar beverages.

Any fans of Irish Reds will love this beer. While guests may go in expecting something akin to Killians, they’ll walk away with something that, in my humble opinion, succeeds it.

Cafe De Mar

Pipeline Pretzel

It’s hard to imagine a festival focused on beer without the presence of pretzels. It’s a culinary staple, and SeaWorld did a great job in recognizing this by providing options for anyone’s preferred pretzel medium. Our lead will direct you to the Pipeline Pretzel. Its surfboard-silhouetted crust is perfectly crispy, with a hint of butter lightly coating the outside that’s balanced by an airy-yet-dense dough. The Pipeline Pretzel is served with beer cheese infused with Crooked Can High Stepper IPA, which makes a delectable pairing.

We went with Pipeline Pretzel as the food and its shape make it one of the best representations of both SeaWorld Orlando and their Craft Beer Festival. Additionally, it doubles as a quick, enjoyable snack for two or enough to tide one person over until the next meal.

Brews and Chews

Boozy S’mores

This sweet treat is perfectly portioned and created with chocolate ganache, a bit of Hershey’s chocolate mini-bars, graham cracker dust and pieces, and hefeweizen-infused marshmallows. The resulting dessert is aesthetically pleasing as it looks like a welcoming campfire snack. Normally, a dish like this will lose its texture if you take too long to consume it, but even the infused marshmallows held true. With that said, this delicacy presents a decadent reward that isn’t too sweet and will complement just about anything you pair it with.

In our opinion, this is the dish that headlines the festival’s food list. It’s atypical for an event of this sort while also being fun, given its gooey textures. You’ll want a fork and napkin on hand for this, but do not pass on the Boozy S’mores!

New Orleans Corner

Abita Purple Haze

Louisiana-based Abita Brewing Company has an excellent reputation when it comes to its product. One of their most popular, Purple Haze, is featured at the event and for good reason. It’s a German lager brewed with pilsner and wheat malts with Vanguard hops. It’s then fermented with real raspberries, which provide its sweet, tart profile and purple hue. The process and complexity of its creation greatly represent what “craft” means in the beer world, and the swirly cloudiness and hint of purple to its complexion beckon to the magic and spirit of New Orleans.

The event may emphasize Florida-based breweries, but that doesn’t mean it should leave anyone out! Purple Haze is a great, familiar introduction to craft beer before digging into what Florida offers.

Totchos

SeaWorld’s Totchos are a guest favorite due to their comforting taste and dish versatility. The Craft Beer Festival offers them in two varieties: barbecue brisket and chili. Either version features tots topped with beer cheese, jalapenos, pico de gallo, and sour cream. The tots hold their texture well against the wet ingredients it contends with and maintain a wonderful crunch. The dish is reminiscent of a nacho appetizer or an American offshoot of poutine.

Readers following our lead will go for the brisket option. They were tasty and very filling, as the portion was enough to provide a small meal for one or a snack for two. This makes it work great as a grab-and-go bite during your visit to the park.

Pub Grub

Dogfish Head Citrus Squall Double Golden Ale

Inspired by the Paloma cocktail, this double golden successfully transfers the best portion of its predecessor’s ingredients into beer form. It incorporates grapefruit juice, blue agave nectar, lime peels, and a hint of salt into a medium-bodied ale. This brings about a citrusy aroma and a delightfully tart flavor that’s rounded out via the sweetness of the blue agave nectar.

This was the absolute winner of the Craft Beer Festival for us. It’s an especially enjoyable beer that instantly, and consistently, rewards upon each sip. With everything to choose from at the event, this is the one to seek out.

Beer Garden

Motorworks Midnight Espresso Coffee Porter

Hailing from Bradenton, Motorworks is another one of the Florida breweries featured that guests may know. The Midnight Espresso Coffee Porter is a standout as one of the festival’s dark beer offerings and one you won’t find in a theme park too often. The prominent flavor profile derives from the blend of Sumatran and Sulawesi coffee beans that align well with malty caramel notes. Along with the enjoyable taste, it also has a delightful aroma of chocolate and espresso to take in as you sip.

By nature, this porter is more a sipper you’ll want to take your time with – as you should. If you find yourself in need of a breather from the day, wander over to the Beer Garden and take a moment to have a sit with this offering.

SeaWorld Orlando is known as a family-friendly amusement park that strives to entertain and create conservation awareness among its guests. While this is true, SeaWorld is also home to some of the industry’s award-winning, record-setting, and thrilling roller coasters –one of which is even this writer’s favorite in the state. Over the years, they’ve embraced the prospects of providing more thrills to their guests with four fantastic coasters currently on their ride roster and more soon to come with Pipeline: The Surf Coaster’s opening on May 27!

SeaWorld truly deserves more credit for the exceptional experience it provides as a world-class theme park in Orlando. Each of its attractions are intricately based on specific kinds of sea life and are sure to provide an exciting experience. With this in mind, allow us to clue you in on what SeaWorld Orlando offers in that respect and how its roller coasters rank against each other. This includes going over each track’s length and peak, the ride’s speed, and, of course, how well they executed the theme and their thrill factor.

Now then, let’s dive in!

4. Ice Breaker

Peak: 93 feet
Track Length: 1,900 feet
Max Speed: 54 miles per hour

After a delayed opening due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ice Breaker broke out in February 2022. It was created by Premiere Rides, who are also responsible for The Revenge of the Mummy rides at the Universal theme parks in Orlando, Singapore, and Hollywood, as well as Tigris in Busch Gardens Tampa and Full Throttle in Six Flags Magic Mountain. SeaWorld’s latest addition to its family of coasters is certainly not one to dismiss as Ice Breaker features Florida’s steepest beyond-vertical drop at a 100-degree angle from its 93-foot peak.

That said, the thrill factor is the least for this one when put up against the other mammoth rollercoasters SeaWorld Orlando has to offer. Objectively, it’s the shortest coaster in the park in both height and length and doesn’t hold the speed of the other attractions. While that sounds harsh, it shouldn’t be seen negatively. What it lacks in that department, it makes up for as an excellent experience for someone who may not be an adrenaline junkie or is just dipping their toes into the coaster fandom. The ride launches its cars back and forth four times, as if preparing you for propelling into the track’s steep turns and near-top-hat maneuver. This provides a ride that’s riveting enough to keep you entertained while not overdoing it.

3. Kraken

Peak: 153 feet
Length: 4,177 feet
Max Speed: 65 miles per hour

SeaWorld Orlando’s Kraken roller coaster was inspired by the legendary sea monster and isn’t for the faint of heart. Guests enter a queue themed as a Greek village that an adventure capitalist repurposed into an offshore sea base. Its goal being to create eco-tourism in the area and to learn more about the mythological Kraken. From its debut in 2000, Kraken held the title of Florida’s longest, tallest roller coaster until 2005.

This beast of a coaster moves like its monstrous namesake. Kraken begins with a climb to its 144-foot peak, ending with an almost equivalent dive into its record-setting track at intense speeds that top off at sixty-five miles per hour. Its vict- er, riders take on seven kinds of inversions, including a zero-gravity roll, a 128-foot loop, and two subterranean dives – all surely leaving guests thankful for the Kraken’s mercy in the end.

2. Mako

Peak: 200 feet
Length: 4,760 feet
Max Speed: 74 miles per hour

Keeping in line with SeaWorld’s mission statement, Mako is part awareness exhibit and part amusement ride. Its queue is tied together with its surroundings in the park as a shark-inhabited shipwreck (or a “shark wreck” if you will.) which leads you to take on the perspective of a Mako Shark. Its track and car design were specifically chosen to resemble the sea predator’s movements as closely as possible, allowing it to deliver several hills, banks, and a helix along its 4,760-foot track. In addition to its record-breaking stats, Mako is the recipient of multiple awards and recognitions. It can also be consistently found among coaster rankings in a high placement.

On a personal level, Mako just narrowly missed being at the top of our ranking of SeaWorld’s roller coasters. Orlando’s only hypercoaster is certainly deserving of being a fan-favorite as it has a great, well-thought theme, and it features nine points of zero gravity at smooth, high-velocity speeds, making out at 74 miles per hour. This matches, if not tops, those of its competitors and comes after its own introductory climb up its two-hundred-foot peak right next door to Kraken, the former holder of that same record! Add this to its stats and you have every reason to experience Mako for yourself.

1. Manta

Peak: 140 feet
Length: 3,359 feet
Max Speed: 56 miles per hour

Pulling from its namesake, Manta mimics the movements and design of a giant manta ray and is the only roller coaster of its design in Florida. Riders experience the attraction from a “flying” position (those who may be unfamiliar with the term, can think “Superman” here) and begin the ride with an inverted nosedive from the top of its 140-foot peak. From there, riders soar above passing guests and nearly skim across Manta’s surrounding waters, setting off a row of fountains underneath them. Since its 2009 debut, Manta has won awards and can be found numerous times in coaster rankings.

If readers spot this writer at SeaWorld Orlando, it’s a good bet that Manta is on his top priorities. It’s unique take on flying coasters allows me to live my dreams of being a superhero, soaring above the City Beautiful and the queue is a captivating attraction on its own. Guests enter its cove theme and wrap around an aquarium of ten tanks containing an artificial reef and over three-hundred sorts of sea creatures, including several kinds of rays, sea horses, and other tropical sea life. Even if you aren’t a roller coaster or are traveling with smaller family members, this doubles as a great walk-through experience with its own entrance and viewing area.

Honorable Mention: Pipeline: The Surf Coaster

Peak: 110 feet
Length: 2,950 feet
Max Speed: 60 miles per hour

SeaWorld’s first-of-its-kind roller coaster is sure to set a bar within the industry. Pipeline: The Surf Coaster is designed to mimic surfing on the wakes and curls of an endless ocean. Riders will strap into surfboard-themed trains that launch at 60 miles an hour into its almost 3,000-foot-long track that includes several curves, two helixes, a corkscrew, and a “wave curl” inversion. What’s most exciting is that guests will experience this all from a near-standing position as their restraints dynamically shift as if they were surfing the waves of the Californian and Australian seas.

Objectively, Pipeline is a unique roller coaster with some impressive stats. It’s just short of Manta’s track in height and length and only five miles under Kraken’s speed. Given this, it will be perfect for anyone wanting a tubular thrill without the need of a wetsuit. Try Pipeline: The Surf Coaster out for yourself after it opens on May 27 to see where it ranks for you!

This sick coaster can be found at the front of SeaWorld Orlando, between Flamecraft Bar and Bayside Stadium. As we cruised up to this gnarly ride, we were stoked to hear beach music and spot some sweet palm trees setting the scene of the day’s surf.

Near the queue entrance, there’s a test seat to help you check your comfort level before hopping on this epic ride. Riders get to hang loose by mimicking the upright position of a professional surfer while experiencing this attraction. With this in mind, guests have an over-the-shoulder restraint, as well as a comfort collar, ensuring that you stay locked in while carving the waves. It’s important to note that before you start shredding on Pipeline: The Surf Coaster – this attraction has a height minimum of 54” and a maximum of 78”.

During our ride, we had about two inches of give in the restraints to totally embrace the multiple righteous airtime moments throughout this 2,950 foot ride. Reaching 60 miles per hour and catching heights of 110 inches made us feel like we were experiencing the most epic swells. To take it to the next level, there are also sick fountain effects all around that are timed perfectly with the ride, creating a totally immersive wave-riding experience.

All in all, these mechanics are totally dialed in, letting us unleash our inner surfer. This sweet ride brings a whole new level of stoke to the Central Florida and it’s got us pumped for whatever’s next in the nogins of SeaWorld Orlando. In the meantime, we are sure you’ll be itching to ride again and again like we are.

The latter of which comes in handy as the park’s experts recommend showering prior to any animal interactions for their safety.

Also included during your day at the resort are both food and beverages of the adult and non-alcoholic varieties. Breakfast and lunch are served at Laguna Grill, where mom can indulge in such delights as freshly prepared eggs, french toast sticks, sandwiches, burgers, and desserts. Complimentary snacks, soft drinks, pizza, beer, and wine are also available at additional stands throughout the property.

Discovery Cove is a Hub of Memorable Moments

Of course, precious memories are among the best gifts you can give your mother, and Discovery Cove offers countless opportunities for them. Every inch of the property is picturesque and ripe with potential from sea to shore. On that note, you’ll want to make sure she has a submersible camera as there are ancient statues and shipwrecked cannons hidden within the depths of Wind-Away River’s crystal-clear waters. If guests don’t bring their own camera, don’t fret – several photographers throughout the property are standing ready to capture a cherished moment at the perfect spot.

Up on the resort’s sandy shores, the Conservation Cabana allows guests the opportunity to make a new friend of the endangered, exotic and avian variety. Here, they can meet and learn about several of the resort’s small mammals and birds during certain hours of the day. Guests also have the opportunity to feed and interact with the resort’s vibrantly feathered residents over at the Explorer’s Aviary.

My favorite spot to capture these memories is either at the entrance cove to the Wind-Away River or the Grand Reef. The latter is an excellent opportunity as guests are surrounded by hundreds of sea life. All around you are free-swimming, brilliantly-colored schools of tropical fish and various types of marvelous rays, so be sure to bring out your waterproof camera for those perfect pictures! The Grand Reef is also home to two of the park’s unique, purchasable upgrades that will give their guests an unforgettable experience.

Why not make her experience a bit extra?

Everything mentioned up to now is included with your Day Resort Package. That alone makes this a worthwhile gift! If you want to treat Mom to something even more amazing, Discovery Cove offers many enhancements to make anyone’s visit that much better. If you need a lead, we have a few suggestions here.

Their Signature Dolphin Swim Package is a classic bucket list option that offers guests the rare opportunity of an interactive photo session with the resort’s native dolphins. For an extra fee, Discovery Cove can have one of their trained dolphins swim up to Mom with a message on a celebration buoy wishing her a Happy Mother’s Day.

If mom is a thrill seeker, the Swim with the Sharks upgrade will be right up her alley. She’ll team with the park’s certified Aquarists to swim with over twenty sharks while gaining a better understanding of each species and their care at the resort. Adding to this already amazing upgrade, 5% of the proceeds are put towards the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation, meaning mom gets a gift that gives back to the world.

Their SeaVenture add-on is honestly my favorite choice as it’s a one-of-a-kind experience. Guests descend to the floor of the Grand Reef for a one-of-a-kind walking tour where they’ll have up-close encounters with its sea life.

If yours is more of the mom who prefers a low-key experience, I’d also suggest Discovery Cove’s Premium Drink Package. This allows her to raise a glass of her choice of a full selection of mixed and frozen drinks to an incredible gift – and possibly a wonderful child.

The newest upgrade available at Discovery Cove is Flamingo Mingle, an exclusive experience where she can feed and walk amongst a flamboyance of flamingos. Where else can she do that?

The design of this 2,950-foot track impersonates various surfing maneuvers, such as an inversion that will imitate an “alley-oop” trick.

SeaWorld Orlando puts the environment, animals, and conservation at the forefront of their mission. Many moving components behind the scenes at the parks contribute to animal rehabilitation and sealife education.

Many of these SeaWorld Orlando facts have an emphasis on their purpose in conservation but also display how they are making strides in the theme park industry.

SeaWorld Seeks to Rehabilitate

In addition to being a theme park, SeaWorld Orlando is also a conservation and rehabilitation facility. Whether an animal suffers from scoliosis or chronic illness, SeaWorld ensures these marine creatures receive top-tier medical care.

SeaWorld rehabilitates sea turtles, manatees, orca whales, dolphins, and more to ensure a safe return to their natural environment. When an animal can’t return to their environment, their team will work with volunteers to ensure those animals get housing and care through one of many organizations equipped to care for them.

SeaWorld rescue teams are needed on beach cleanup crews to help clear away debris and assist with turtle habitat safety. Many Florida drivers will be familiar with sandhill cranes, which also happen to be one of the most rescued species of the SeaWorld team due to their closeness to roads and homes. Other times, trainers might bottle-feed orphaned orcas or use specialized equipment to help straighten the spine of a dolphin with scoliosis.

Aquarium Glass is So Thick Elephants Could Stand On It

Although a fun part of many cartoons, you won’t have to worry about the glass breaking while you admire the fish, sharks, and marine life in the tanks at SeaWorld Orlando’s aquariums. The glass between you and the marine life is thick enough for three six-ton elephants to stand on.

In the Shark Encounter exhibit, you can experience the excitement of being surrounded by sharks without fear of the glass breaking since that glass can hold 372 elephants, or 2,232 tons, without a single crack. If that wasn’t impressive enough, this might blow your mind: the Shark Encounter tubing can hold back more than 450 tons of water.

Infinity Falls Includes the Tallest Drop on a Water Raft Ride

Record-breaking is the norm in Orlando, especially for theme parks, and this park is no exception. Infinity Falls is one of those record-breaking attractions that will take your breath away while giving you a bird’s eye view of the park.

This attraction opened in October 2018 and has remained the record-holder for the ride with the tallest drop on a water raft ride since.

Mako is the Tallest and Fastest Roller Coaster in Orlando

SeaWorld Orlando is home to another record-holder: Mako. This coaster won’t have you strapped in above your shoulders, but you might feel like you need one. Mako has a lap bar restraint that will keep you safe, even though it’s taller and faster than any other attraction in Orlando. Each guest is placed in a cozy seat with a physical bar that will keep you securely in place so you can enjoy your fast, thrilling adventure without worry.

Busch Gardens’ new Iron Gwazi has Mako beat by only three miles per hour and only seven feet, meaning Mako holds the title for one of the best coasters in Orlando.

SeaWorld Only Sells Reef-Safe Sunscreen

The emphasis on protecting the environment is still present in the gift shops throughout SeaWorld. SeaWorld exclusively sells sunscreen created with cruelty-free practices and contains no oxybenzone, a common chemical in sunscreens that damage the ocean when they enter the water supply.

Nearly every gift shop sells sunscreen, a much-needed part of any Florida vacationer’s bag. Thankfully, you can feel good about buying and using sunscreen through SeaWorld, knowing you’re not harming the environment while you protect your skin.

Each Purchase Contributes to the Conservation Fund

For every purchase you make at a SeaWorld gift shop, five percent of your total gets deposited into the SeaWorld and Busch Gardens Conservation Fund. This fund was created in 2003 with the intention of supporting conservation groups and efforts around the world.

Over the years, this fund has contributed a whopping $18 million in funding to 1,200 global organizations seeking to protect the natural world.

Additionally, when shopping at SeaWorld, you may be asked if you’d like to round up your total to a whole number. The additional amount goes directly to the conservation fund to help protect the environment. Who knew shopping for souvenirs could mean saving the world?

It’s that time of year when Busch Garden’s Food & Wine Festival brings a world of flavor to Tampa Bay! Trek Through Africa

Vegetable Samosa with Peppadew Tomato Chutney

Our venture through the menu starts off hot – literally! The Vegetable Samosa with Peppadew Tomato Chutney was one of my first bites of the evening and became one of my favorites. This samosa had a crunchy exterior with a warm, delicious interior full of potatoes, onions, and peas, creating a surprising, delightful kick that achieved the perfect amount of intensity.

This dish is vegetarian and vegan, a theme you will notice when glancing at the Food & Wine Festival menu. The variety of vegetarian options was prevalent throughout the fair, and I am sure that the increased variety is greatly appreciated.

African Vegetable Curry & Naan Bread

Another delectable vegetarian option warmed our hearts and stomachs. Dipping naan bread into the hearty stew made from zucchini, yellow squash, cauliflower, red bell peppers, tomato, peas, and onions satiated our hunger reasonably well for being a sample size.

I have a tip for whoever dives into this dish – this plate gives you the perfect opportunity to stop and enjoy the festival pathway, as it can be a bit messy when eating on the go. If you are looking for a quick treat while on your way to Iron Gwazi, there is no need to worry, as plenty of handheld options are still available – like our next serving!

Moroccan Market

Berbere Spiced Chicken Batbout

This batbout makes for an excellent handheld as the bread performs as an edible container that the seasoned chicken comfortably rests in before chowing down.

Moroccan Couscous with Roasted Vegetables

Adding to the vegan and vegetarian lineup is the Moroccan Couscous with Roasted Vegetables. Carrots, parsnip, turnip, beets, garlic, cumin, coriander, cardamom, and cilantro topped the pearled, toasted pasta. While I adored this plate, it was even better as a side dish with a wide array of options to pair with.

Greek Isles

Stuffed Grape Leaves with Tzatziki Sauce

If your traveling party is searching for something to share, look no further than the Stuffed Grape Leaves with Tzatziki Sauce. You will receive at least three grape leaves filled with rice, ground beef, herbs, and spices partnered with tzatziki sauce. This was a first for me when it came to eating grape leaves, and I was left pleasantly surprised! Busch Gardens Food & Wine Festival is the perfect opportunity to try new things when it comes to cuisine, and you may walk away with a new favorite!

Lamb Lollipop with a Mint Demi-glaze

A meaty lollipop was an excellent choice on Busch Garden’s part to provide a savory option that is great to gnaw on in a theme park setting. The lamb was well-cooked and seasoned with Mediterranean spices and herbs, served with a beef and lamb stock reduction.

Baklava

The baklava finishes off the almost miniature three-course meal available at the Greek Isles stand. With flaky crusting whose layers evoked a hint of cinnamon and honey, this goody made its way to the top of my dessert ranking.

Dessert & Sweet Wines

Island Grove Wine Company, Blueberry Moscato

While I am no sommelier, this wine was very sweet and encapsulated Florida inside of a corked bottle. It was heartwarming to see Florida represented by Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. While this festival is a celebration of food from afar, it is nice to know that there was a spot held for our very own Sunshine State.

Chocolate & Port Bar

We loved this dessert a choco-lot! Puns aside, if you have a hankering for chocolate, look no further than the Chocolate & Port Bar. Sink your teeth into a fluffy cake, garnished with icing and crunchy, pearl sprinkles. While the baklava was my personal favorite sweet confection, this plate comes in a close second.

European Delight

Pierogies & Peas

I am originally from Pennsylvania, so I dashed toward this Polish dumpling dish. I mentally listed this as my most anticipated item in this year’s lineup with hopes of having a taste of the Keystone State, and it did not disappoint! These pierogies were filled with potatoes and sauced with caramelized onion puree, combining to resemble a home-cooked meal.

Mushroom Ravioli with Truffle Cream Sauce

This pasta plate has our taste buds traveling to Southern Europe and enjoying a bite of Italy. Stuffed with ricotta cheese, garlic, and shallots, this Italian dumpling is smothered in a mushroom sauce. The hint of black truffle in this plate amplified the flavor and almost made me forget that I was standing inside a theme park, not a trattoria.

Tiramisu

This airy, sweet treat was the perfect finale for our small tour of Europe at the European Delight booth. Sinking our forks into this dessert proved its cloud-like consistency joined with a delicious sweet and bitter flavor harmony.

This listing of plates just scratches the surface of all the offerings available at this year’s Busch Garden’s Food & Wine Festival. With so many delicious options, the Food & Wine Festival Sampler is worth checking out, which can be purchased for 10 or 15-item redemptions and saves you a bit of dough.

Busch Gardens Food & Wine Entertainment

On most Saturdays and Sundays this spring, live musicians will perform on the festival field to allow guests to eat to the beats of pop, rock, Latin, country, contemporary, and classic music. Busch Garden’s Food & Wine Festival concert lineup for 2023 can be found here. I can assure you that I will be making a return for the baklava and the sounds of Flo Rida. 

Outside of those dedicated concert days and times, live tunes will still be playing and filling the atmosphere as you fill your stomach. For example, a cellist will be performing periodically during the cuisine-inspired celebration. It was indeed a highlight when we could hear them play during our sneak peek of the event.

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay’s newest thrill, Serengeti Flyer, will be opening on February 27 to offer a swinging good time over the Serengeti Plain. This experience was officially announced in October 2022, and we have patiently waited to soar above Busch Gardens since. We at Orlando Informer had the opportunity to fly high in the sky and check out this attraction before its official opening so we could divulge all the details about this wild ride for you!

Serengeti Flyer Stats & Experience

You’ll notice that this ride stands tall in the skyline of Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, with its purple frame and green dueling arms that achieve a maximum height of 135 feet and reach 68 miles per hour at its peak. With back-to-back seating across the two gondolas, Serengeti Flyer can simultaneously hold 40 guests who are over 48”. Once strapped in, you will begin your journey toward the sky with the attraction’s movement replicating a childhood swing. With each smooth, back-and-forth motion, you venture higher and higher while experiencing negative g-force multiple times throughout the ride’s duration.

Our Thoughts on Serengeti Flyer

We loved this experience and are excited that this ride brings even more variety to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay’s lineup. This is an excellent option for guests craving thrill but do not gravitate toward coasters like Cheetah Hunt or Tigris. Guests can clearly see the ride’s path, which doesn’t include any stomach-turning twists, loops, or surprises. You may be astonished when you look straight ahead and are horizontal to the Earth, but this won’t last long as you will be grounded shortly following this sensation. 

Your position on the ride’s gondolas also slightly impacts the ride experience. Facing away from Serengeti Flyer’s attraction entrance, you will get a breathtaking view of the Serengeti Plain and its residents. However, sitting in the opposite direction, you will get a new perspective of Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. This is a great excuse to ride again and again!

Serengeti Flyer is the second attraction that Busch Gardens Tampa Bay has opened within the span of a year, as award-winning Iron Gwazi opened on March 11, 2022. With two imaginative creations revealed to the public in close proximity to one another, Busch Gardens has proven that the sky is the limit when it comes to innovation.

Returning for its sixth year, SeaWorld Orlando’s Seven Seas Food Festival is considered to be the largest of its kind in Orlando. It features 24 marketplaces across the park’s property and 26 live performances from hit artists on select dates between now and May 7, 2023. Even more exciting is that the event and its concerts are included with SeaWorld Orlando’s general admission, which can be purchased at a discount on our website here. This is a great way to tide over the anticipation for their newest attraction – Pipeline: The Surf Coaster. As your trusted source for an honest review, we dove into their vast sea of offerings and came back with which are the worthiest of your time.

Seven Seas Food and Beverage Sampler Lanyard

In order to get the best bang for your buck during SeaWorld’s Seven Seas Food Festival, the event’s Food and Beverage Sampler is the way to go. Guests can choose either a 10-item offer for $70 or a 15-item option for $85. A Passholder Exclusive deal offers 18 items for the $85 price. Each is a great choice for anyone wishing to indulge in the festivities since any of the items will cost between $11.99 to $14.99 plus tax and a 5% surcharge when going a la carte.

Before getting too far, we should attend to a little housekeeping. Firstly, we’ve presented our recommendations in ascending order of the marketplace stations from start to finish as a matter of convenience. Second and possibly most importantly, there is a difference in servings when ordering drinks a la carte and the slightly smaller servings given with the Sampler Lanyard, with our pictures coinciding with the latter. That said, you can opt for whichever you prefer and pay for the standard sizes separately.

Let’s cruise right on into our favorites.

Caribbean Moonshine Tasting

PB&C Cannonball

The Caribbean Moonshine Tasting stand offers five of this Florida brand’s best flavors: Marmalade, Coconut, Passionfruit, and Banana, as well as a Peanut Butter and Chocolate combo. Each has an 80-proof potency, which makes them a heavy hitter even with the smaller, tasting size. Anyone without the sampling lanyard who wants to explore the brand would be best off with their four-flavor flight for $25. Otherwise, we loved the PB&C Cannonball. Its peanut-butter-forward flavor was smooth and exceptional, with a delightful chocolate finish. They also provide a QR code and web address to order your favorite bottle, which I plan on taking advantage of.

Caribbean Market

Smoked Jerk Chicken Slider

Jerk seasoning is known to be on the spicier side, but this slider brought just enough heat to provide a nice zing to the chicken. The pineapple cilantro slaw topping paired with the banana pepper garnish helps round the flavor off with a bright and wonderful sensation. Completing the sandwich is a toasty, sweet brioche bun that welcomes anyone to take a hearty bite.

All-American Market

Southern Peach

Few things are considered to be an “All-American favorite,” like the peach. The peach schnapps blends with its lemon-lime soda and simple syrup to bring a sweet and refreshing taste to the bourbon. Each sip seems to transport you to the Georgia countryside.

North Atlantic Market

Cranberry Limeade

At first taste, this American Sour is very tart, but becomes more enjoyable as you continue forward. It’s a very rejuvenating ale that’s best experienced as a light sipper. If you aren’t usually one for sour flavors, but are still looking for an adventurous and fun beer, definitely give this a try.

Coaster Cocktails

Pipeline

With its namesake attraction’s opening right around the corner, this was a no-brainer for us to hang loose with in the meantime. Pipeline is a drink akin to a gin-topped Bahama Mama. Its notes of peach, floral herbs, and sweet citrus evoke thoughts of the wildflower-dotted Florida beach shores. We enjoyed the sample serving, but it may be better to order the full-sized serving here. They’re much larger and how you get those nifty to-go pouches. Not to mention, who doesn’t want to partake in an adult Capri-Sun?

Sweet Sips

Raz Dazzle Cupcake

The cupcakes at Sweet Sips are sizeable and delicious, which makes them one of the best options at the festival. While the jam filling may be minimal, I see where too much would make it overpowering in its overall sweetness. Its moist texture compliments the light, whipped frosting and freeze-dried raspberry topping making it very enjoyable for anyone in the family.

Boozy Orange Bliss

This is the dessert I’d come back to. It’s tasty and the choice to employ a cream cheese frosting – which, mind you, is the elite frosting – as a topper makes this feel like an upscale item. While it isn’t very “boozy” it’s still delectable and executes the Grand Marnier’s earthy, orange flavor wisely with the rest of the baked citrus flavors.

Italian Market

Palermo Fontina Cheese Meatballs

This is one of the more popular items at the event, and my wife’s favorite. The meatballs are a decent size and provide a warm, comforting dish. The garlic panzito brings a good counter-crunch texture to the meal. While the cheese isn’t very present in the flavor, it doesn’t have to be, as the sauce picks up the slack in that department. The portions and piquancy of this item make it a comforting break from the otherwise bustling pace during your visit at the park.

Brazilian Market

Picanha Steak

Fans of Brazilian steakhouses will love this one. The meat paired with the cilantro chimichurri and marinade was very flavorful. Unfortunately, I do have a ding to make note of: the delectable flavor left us wishing for a larger serving size to enjoy. Additionally, the bean salad side added a pleasant freshness to the plate.

Frozen Guava Mint Caipirinha

Caipirinhas are a classic Brazilian cocktail and one of my favorites wherever they’re served. This beverage is served to guests frozen and has a refreshing, sweet citrus taste with a hint of mint. Personally, I would have gathered it a tad mintier, but it was still very delicious. If you need a revitalization of both body and spirit, let this be the one with which to do so.

Asian Market

Deep Fried Dumpling

This item is perfect for someone wanting something satisfying and light. The veggies within the dumplings are well-seasoned, and there’s a good amount of umami at play in the flavors. While it is marinaded in ponzu sauce, the deep-fried texture of the dumplings is maintained for a pleasant crunch.

Irish Market

Guinness Beef Stew

If there’s any station to set your sights on, our favorite was the Irish Market. Starting with the beef stew, this dish was very hearty with an excellent flavor all around. The beef falls apart nicely and is well-prepared. Given the portion size and how satisfying it is, this is one of the best bangs for your buck at the event.

Jameson Bread Pudding

An Irish bread pudding can be considered an “old reliable” as it’s a universally enjoyable dish. While it may not be a “melty” bread pudding, this helps provide what you’d expect from its custardy flavor without being so naturally messy. If you want to enjoy it at its fullest potential, partake in it post-beef-stew. You won’t regret it!

Irish Cold Brew Latte

The combination of Jameson Cold Brew, coffee, cream, and simple syrup provides exactly what you’d expect from a coffee and whiskey cocktail. This is the perfect choice for anyone wanting to maintain the spirit of the festivities and in need of a quick pick-me-up during their visit.

This was a great meatless take on a traditional cajun favorite. It’s a filling size for what’s considered to be a “sampling” with a friendly, mild heat that’s still present enough to keep with the dish’s customary expectations. If you’re a vegetarian looking for the best plant-based option at this year’s Seven Seas Food Festival, look no further.

Bananas Foster Beignets

It’s hard to miss the shot when it comes to beignets, and this was hands-down the best dessert at the Seven Seas Food Festival. Under the delicious glaze of rum and powdered sugar lies a treat with a delightful crunchy texture. While a beignet covered in sheer icing may sound a bit rich, it’s not overly indulgent by any means. Best of all, there’s enough for two to share!

Mexican Market

Taco al Pastor

Anyone who has never had taco al pastor should give this a go. SeaWorld’s take is served in a good portion, and the pineapple brings a sweet, refreshing balance to the slaw topping format it’s part of. Combined with the nicely seasoned chicken, this is a well-rounded and appetizing dish.

In our opinion, one of the best times to plan a trip to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is in February. While you are bound to have a wonderful time visiting Busch Gardens year-round, the sweet combination of cooler weather and various events included with your admission make for a fabulous visit to this theme park.

Mardi Gras

Venture beyond the bayou to one of the best Mardi Gras celebrations outside of the “Big Easy.” Busch Gardens Tampa Bay hosts an incredible celebration on select Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from January 14 through March 5 that is filled with delicious, cajun cuisine and high-energy, jazzed-up entertainment.

A true Mardi Gras carnival isn’t complete without a parade, beads, and jazz. You’re in luck, as Busch Gardens Tampa Bay has got you covered for all three. The Bird Gardens become filled with the spirit of Mardi Gras as performers, stilt walkers, and musicians celebrate with guests during the Mardi Gras Parade. There is also a brass band playing some jazzy tunes, as well as a “Bead Balcony” where the key accessory of Mardi Gras celebrations is tossed to guests. Make sure to check park hours before your visit, so you don’t miss out on these offerings!

With plates such as crawfish etouffee and beignets, your taste buds will travel to Bourbon Street and back. While food is not included with your admission, Busch Gardens offers a five-item and a ten-item food and beverage sampler to help you save some dough when tasting the flavors of their New Orleans carnival. The five-item food and beverage sampler pass is $40.00, which amounts to $8.00 a plate, and the ten-item sampler at $60.00 equates to $6.00 per dish. The sampler pass can be used on certain fun, specialty cocktails as well!

Real Music Series

Check out the longest-running concert series at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay that celebrates various eras in music. In February, you can catch the likenesses of famous performers and groups at the Stanleyville Theater, such as Elvis and (my personal favorite) ABBA. Be sure to take a peek at park hours for Real Music Series showtimes and check out the full musical line-up here. 

Sesame Street Kids’ Weekends

Are you traveling with little ones? Get on your way to where the air is sweet because we will tell you what is happening with Sesame Street! On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from January 27 through February 12, kids and grown-ups can join their favorite Sesame Street pals at the Sesame Street Safari of Fun for storytime, dance parties, and crafts. There will also be a pirate treasure hunt, a fuzzy Valentine’s party, and a celebration for Elmo’s birthday! This play date is included with your admission, which can be purchased at a discounted price through Orlando Informer.

Insider Tours and Safaris

Want to get a close-up look at some of your favorite animals? Take one of the many insider tours and safaris Busch Gardens Tampa Bay has to offer. These experiences allow for a personal encounter for an additional fee. One of the most popular animal experiences at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is the Serengeti Safari. Passengers get to hop on an open-air vehicle and come along for a thirty-minute safari through the Serengeti Plain exhibit. There is even an opportunity to hand-feed some of the giraffes.

In the span of 30 minutes, you can get a behind-the-scenes tour regarding the care of the animal of your choosing. From elephants to hippos, there are many options to choose from for your tour. Want to see what it is like to be an animal keeper at Busch Gardens? They have that opportunity as well! This four-hour, backstage tour allows you to get up close with multiple different animals and talk with some of the animal care specialists that work on site. Keep in mind that this tour comes with an additional fee on top of admission. Be sure to check out the Busch Gardens Tampa website for availability and prices for each of these exciting experiences.

Concerts

Did you know you could catch a concert while visiting Busch Gardens Tampa Bay? You sure can, and access to these musical performances is included in the price of admission. So far this year, artists including Maddie & Tae, Dustin Lynch, and Flo Rida are scheduled to perform during the Food and Wine Festival, occurring from March 11 through May 7. Be sure to check if any acts are slated during your visit.

Festivals and Events

Throughout the course of the year, there is, more often than not, a festival, celebration, or event going on at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. One of the first happenings of the year is the Mardi Gras celebration, running from January 14 to March 5. Guests during this time will be able to experience delicious Cajun foods and festive performances. Immediately following the Mardi Gras celebration, the annual Food and Wine Festival kick off on March 10 and continues until May 21. Guests will have the opportunity to chow down on some delicious snacks, try out some cocktails or beers (for those 21 and up), and even enjoy some concerts. The fun continues later on in the year with the annual Busch Gardens Bier Fest that will take place from July 21 through September 4.    

One of the most well-known events that Busch Gardens puts on is Howl-O-Scream. Autumn is not complete without a visit to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay for Halloween. Whether you get startled in the haunted mazes or by the many actors scattered throughout the park, you are sure to have a scary good time. Not really into the Halloween horror? No problem! Busch Gardens Tampa Bay also offers Spooktacular, a family-friendly way to enjoy the occasion. Both of these events take place on select dates between September 8 and October 31.

Ready for the holidays already? Busch Gardens celebrates the holiday season with their yearly Christmas Town extravaganza. Guests are able to watch some festive shows and divulge into sweet treats while taking in the cheery atmosphere. This special offering runs November 13 to December 31.

Non-Coaster Rides

Not into roller coasters but still want to experience some thrills? You are in luck! Busch Gardens Tampa has plenty of non-roller coaster offerings and even a brand-new attraction coming Spring 2023.

Needing a way to cool down during a hot Busch Gardens day? Hop on the Stanley Falls Flume ride or enter into a raft on the Congo River Rapids. Both are fun and sure to get you soaked.

There are also some more relaxing rides to check out. The Serengeti Express is a tranquil train ride that takes riders through the Serengeti exhibit to get close to the grazing animals. The Skyride is another calm experience that brings riders into the air and provides beautiful views of the park.

A new non-coaster thrill is just around the corner! Serengeti Flyer will soon be opening this coming Spring. This swing-like attraction will take riders higher and higher with each pass and eventually gets up to 135 feet at 68 mph. This will give amazing views of the Serengeti Plain below and incredible thrills to the passengers on board. You can read our initial announcement here.

Rest and Recharge Stations

Of all the secret spots in SeaWorld Orlando, Rest and Recharge Stations are among the easiest to miss. These stations are perfect places to get your fill of dazzling coaster perspectives while you charge your electronic devices and rest your legs. Each station is outfitted with plenty of USB ports and outlets to help ensure your devices are fully charged to capture every moment of your adventure.

Two Rest and Recharge Stations are located just outside of the Key West area and Mako. Both stations offer awe-inspiring looks at Manta and Mako and seat eight guests who need to recover from their trek around the park.

Grab some popcorn and have a seat! Nothing is more entertaining than listening to coaster-goers screams while you rest your exhausted feet.

Dolphin Underwater Viewing

Getting up close and personal with animals is only one benefit of visiting SeaWorld Orlando. Nothing feels more personal than the Dolphin Underwater Viewing just past the Key West area. This rotunda has a lower and upper level that allows you to witness everything the dolphins are up to, including racing and playing.

Here, you’ll only be mere feet away from a pod of dolphins. There is no better photo-op than this air-conditioned getaway in all of SeaWorld Orlando.

Many dolphins will blow bubbles and play with them while guests can watch from the underwater viewing area. If you’re lucky, you may be able to capture one of these moments for yourself!

Manta Aquarium

The aquarium located just next to the Manta lockers showcases every bit of the beautiful ocean life SeaWorld seeks to protect. Upon walking in, you’ll be greeted with wall-recessed habitats that hold a host of fish, stingrays, and other sea creatures that will inspire you to learn more about the natural world we share.

One notable exhibit is overhead just as you round the first corner, bathing you in shimmering light as you look up at the rays and marine life swimming above. Others include marine life you can’t find elsewhere, like Pink Sea Stars, Swimming Anemones, and Weedy Sea Dragons.

Whether you want to marvel at unique sea creatures or escape the Florida heat, the Manta Aquarium is a perfect location for you and your family.

Dolphin Nursery Alcoves

The Dolphin Nursery can be an ideal location for any SeaWorld guest with a camera, especially those who love dolphins. Here, you’ll be able to see dolphin mothers and their calves, getting a closer look at how they behave together and exist in their habitat.

The marine life in these enclosures can be viewed from the front, where a large pane of glass gives you a clear view of the babies and mothers swimming. However, we suggest the alcoves on the right side of the enclosure. Tucked away in the back corner are three cubbies you can curl yourself into to watch as the dolphins pass in front of you with brilliant clarity.

These cavities have circular panes of glass where the young, playful dolphins will swim past, or (if you’re lucky) stop by to say hello.

Lakeside Grill Seating

Not only does Lakeside Grill have waterfront seating, but just outside lies a seating area where you and your family can pause for a small recharge. As you gaze out over the lake, you’ll have a panoramic view of the park’s top attractions.

To your right, you’ll see Ice Breaker, one of SeaWorld Orlando’s newest coasters that will take you high into the air only to drop you backward for a thrilling adventure. To the left, you’ll have a stunning view of one of Mako’s tight turns over the lake.

This location is ideal for watching coasters, having lunch, or pausing for some reflection as the sun sets on the lake. If you’re lucky enough to visit during the holiday season, this location is perfect for watching the iconic Christmas tree lights show on the lake or getting an unforgettable photo op.

Jewel of the Sea Aquarium

Just outside the Journey to Atlantis drop is an aquarium attached to the Golden Seahorse gift shop. This gift shop doubles as the Journey to Atlantis exit, making this aquarium easy to access and a perfect place to see some extraordinary marine life you won’t find anywhere else.

This aquarium will have you surrounded by sea creatures, no matter the direction you look. Overhead, small fish and sharks swim, and below your feet are six thick panels of glass that house a tank of assorted fish.

This spot is also home to unique marine life like Comb Jellyfish, Moon Jellies, and more. We suggest keeping an eye out for the Moray Eels. These creatures have plenty of hiding spots, but if you’re lucky, you might just spot one!

Marveling at fish, observing the stunning mechanics of the latest and most incredible coasters, and relaxing waterside are only a few of the brilliant adventures SeaWorld has to offer. No park does the holidays like SeaWorld Orlando. Their annual Christmas Celebration is full of experiences that are sure to bring out the holly jolly spirit of their guests. Among the holiday happenings, there is a slew of festive features at SeaWorld. Annually, guests can take in the sights of millions of lights, experience snow flurries at the Waterfront Shopping Plaza, nightly fireworks at park closing, meet-and-greets with Rudolph and friends, and even chat with Santa Claus himself!

While some of these are at an additional fee, many of the park-wide experiences during the event are included with the day’s admission. Since there’s so much going on, we felt it worth sharing some of our favorites with you.

Christmas Town’s food and beverage

Going off the spirit of their Seven Seas Food Festival, SeaWorld has delivered an exceptional food and beverage menu across 14 market stations for the season. If you’ve been to this event before, you may notice the return of some old favorites and the introduction of new and enticing choices to enjoy. For instance, guests can choose a specialty flavoring of peppermint, gingerbread, or toasted marshmallow along with traditional hot chocolate. New to the beverage options this year are two choices of eggnog – at Claus Cookie Co. a frozen version can be found that the entire family can enjoy and Donut Open Till Christmas Featuring Shaka Donuts offers a “Holiday Peppermint Eggnog,” a cheery twist on the beloved, yuletide beverage.

Using that as a springboard, there are four new holiday-spirited cocktails as well as a festive mocktail available. The Sugarplum Delights station’s cocktail, Tis the Season, presents guests with warm notes of vanilla, butterscotch, and cola that mingle with apple cider to bring out a sensory profile reminiscent of an apple pie in a cup. Those wanting something a little more adventurous will want to set their sights on their Caramel Mule, which is essentially a Dark and Stormy cocktail with caramel and lime.

SeaWorld doesn’t shy away from bringing out its best in the realm of food. This year, park-go-ers looking for a comforting meal needn’t go further than the All Grown Up Birria Grilled Cheese. Its smoked and sharp cheddar cheeses are served on Texas Toast and paired with tomato dipping soup. Alternatively, The Main Event, a Thanksgiving dinner of turkey breast, Andouille sausage stuffing, cranberries, and brown gravy, offers a festive meal that warms the soul. Guests with a taste for the sweet and savory will want to stop by the Tis the Season Beignets stand. Not to be confused with the libation of the same name, it specializes in the namesake fritter and offers three different types: a savory shrimp option, as well as sweet s’mores and turtle choices.

If you’re thinking there are way too many options to choose just one dish or drink, we’re right there with you. To that, we’d suggest getting the Food and Brew Sampler and the refillable souvenir holiday mug. The Food and Brew Sampler offers formats of five or ten items of your choice for $40 and $55 plus tax, respectively, and are sure to be the best bang for your culinary value. Turning our focus to the holiday mug, this endearing drinkware comes with the purchase of hot cocoa at $9.49 plus tax and can be refilled at the discounted rate of $3.99 plus tax. Anyone returning to the event can do so even in the following years, so get your holiday refill on!

Shows and activities for the family

It isn’t the holiday season at SeaWorld without meet-and-greets and a show or two. In Rudolph’s Christmas Town, families can pass through storybook vignettes of the famous reindeer’s tale as they make their way to see Rudolph, Bumble, and their friends. Visitors wanting to tell Santa what they want this year will want to traverse to the Waterfront Shoppes where he can be found among the occasional snow flurry.

SeaWorld has some amazing shows and sometimes it’s not easy to see them all. If choices must be made, we’d suggest Winter Wonderland on Ice, O’Wondrous Night, and the Sea of Trees. Over the years, these shows have successfully become staples for the park’s Christmas festivities. Times for the shows and meet-and-greets may vary, so it’s best to check the site or app when planning your visit. Of course, you’ll also want to know a little about them –

The Sea of Trees

Guests from all over travel to SeaWorld at this time of year to bask in the glow of their seventy-four Christmas trees that line the park’s lagoon. Their wondrous LED-lined water forest will dazzle your eyes and ears as their light displays dance to yuletide favorites. The show lasts around twenty magical minutes and occurs various times throughout the day. When I attend with my family, we’ll usually settle into a spot on one of the bridges so we feel immersed in the trees, but there are plenty of great spots to see them throughout the park.

Winter Wonderland on Ice

SeaWorld’s professional ice skating show takes place at Bayside Stadium and is, humbly stated, one of the best shows in any Orlando theme park. In 2021, it received the IAAPA,  the global association for the attractions industry, Brass Ring Award for Excellence in Entertainment and Creativity in a Sports or Stunt Show as per the IAAPA site. Putting aside the well-deserved clout, we enjoy this show because it’s a heartfelt and captivating performance. The pre-show features a violinist, and the main event incorporates the sea of trees behind the stage as well as a waterworks display while professional ice skaters perform to the notes of holiday classics. I’d recommend arriving early as it’s very popular. Extra kudos to those who take in Winter Wonderland on Ice with a hot chocolate (with or without the “Jolly” added) during the night’s last showing just before the park’s Fireworks Finale.

O’Wondrous Night

Back by popular demand, guests can once again witness the story of the Nativity in the Nautilus Theater, as re-told through the eyes of the manger animals who were there for the first time since 2020. The biblical stage show features thirty carols sung by a live choir, live animals, and life-size puppets. SeaWorld is the only theme park in Orlando whose Christmas festivities include a show like this one. It’s a charming, light-hearted, family show that guests will always remember.

Ice Skating at Bayside Stadium

If you thought Bayside Staidum’s ice stage looked welcoming, you’re certainly not alone. During this year’s holiday season, SeaWorld brought back the opportunity for their guests to take center stage. For $15 plus tax, which includes the rental of a pair of ice skates, guests can skate where the stadium’s famous show takes place for twenty minutes. Our know before you go is that gloves and crew-length socks are required to partake in this activity, and skates cannot be brought from home. If you do this in the spur of the moment, don’t fret! You can purchase these items when checking in for your reserved time slot.

Christmas in Sesame Street Land

Parades aren’t just for the daytime hours! As part of the Christmas Celebration’s kid-friendly activities, Sesame Street Land’s energetic and festive Christmas parade features everyone’s favorite characters from the brand, such as Oscar the Grouch and Big Bird. During their visit, guests and their kiddos can catch Elmo’s Christmas Wish starring Elmo, Cookie Monster, Grover, Zoe, and Rosita as they help Elmo find what he wants most for the holiday. It’s a heart-warming show that will sure to put your family in the Christmas spirit.

Holiday celebrations are in full swing at SeaWorld Orlando, and there is a flurry of things to do to get in this yule’s spirit. From ice skating shows to character meet-and-greets, there is something for everyone! We can all agree that walking around a theme park all day and participating in festive fun can make your stomach rumble. At this year’s SeaWorld’s Christmas Celebration, 14 booths offer a variety of sweets and savory treats for guests to feast upon. My husband and I decided to take on the challenge of sampling much of what is available to give you our honest review.

Christmas Celebration Tasting and Brew Sampler

To access our full snack potential, we purchased a Christmas Celebration Tasting and Brew Sampler at one of the booths to save while trying various bites around SeaWorld Orlando. Day guests can purchase either a five-sample lanyard for $40 or a ten-sample lanyard for $55 at any of the fourteen booths available. We purchased a passholder exclusive lanyard for $55 before taxes, which included 12 tasting samples. With dishes coming out to an average of approximately $10 a plate – you can’t beat this deal.

You can also reduce the cost of your visit by purchasing discounted admission to SeaWorld Orlando through Orlando Informer and have more to spend on gifts under the tree.

Waffle Wonderland

Monte Cristo Waffle

With ham, turkey, swiss cheese, and cranberry glaze on top of a Belgian waffle, this sandwich perfectly combines holiday flavors. This dish was stacked high, so we removed the top waffle and opted for an open-faced effect, making it easier to sink our teeth into.

Jolly Strips

We braved this savory-sweet treat and were delightfully surprised to enjoy this adventurous plate. The maple flavor from the bacon and the chocolate coating paired well to disguise any “meaty” taste. The flavoring experience ended in a finale of spice, which shocked the taste buds in the best way. While this may not be my go-to theme park snack, it was a great opportunity to try something new!

Seasons Eatings

All Grown Up Birria Grilled Cheese

With its simple and nostalgic concept, this grilled cheese paired with a tomato dipping soup feeds the soul just as much as your stomach. Sharp cheddar and smoked cheddar cheeses sandwiched between two slices of Texas toast made this plate toothsome and something we would order again and again.

Harvest Mac & Cheese

The Harvest Mac & Cheese is reminiscent of mom’s baked macaroni and cheese. It transports your taste buds to a simpler time, all while standing in a theme park. 

The Season’s Eatings booth at SeaWorld’s Christmas Celebration was hands-down one of our favorites due to its home-cooked feel and portion size. We also believe this kiosk would be kid-approved as grilled cheese and macaroni and cheese is a staple on many children’s menus.

Christmas Comforts

The Main Event

We decided to have an early Christmas dinner while observing Ice Breaker’s reverse launch. While an untraditional way to enjoy this feast, the taste of fried turkey breast, andouille sausage stuffing, cranberries, and brown gravy is a close rendition of this tradition should you have a hankering for a holiday meal while walking around SeaWorld Orlando.

Hear me out – this was fantastic. In a similar thought process to the aforementioned Jolly Strips, sweet and savory combined together for a unique take on a favorite southern treat. The taste was evocative of popular dining establishments while maintaining its Orlando locality with the use of a Shaka Donut as bookends to this plate.

This donut is pretty enough for the ‘gram and delicious enough to eat! The adorable Christmas tree design tasted like white chocolate on top of a pretzel stick and made for the cutest design. This cream-filled donut utilized the yuletide traditional flavor of hot cocoa in the buttercream filling to ensure the inside was as festive as the outside. 

While we raved about Season’s Eatings, Donut Open till Christmas featuring Shaka Donuts comes in a very close second in our ranking of favorite stops.

There was no shortage of handhelds at SeaWorld Orlando’s Christmas Celebration booths this year. Most can be enjoyed while walking from one attraction to the next, but with the au jus on this prime rib sandwich, we recommend staying in one place for full enjoyment. The Beef on Weck was delicious and filling, competing for the top spot for my favorite festive hoagie at SeaWorld Orlando.

Christmas Bread Pudding

As the holiday season is known for endless amounts of indulgent treats, let’s take a look at the sweeter offerings at SeaWorld Orlando. One of my husband’s favorite desserts is bread pudding, which he was delighted to see on the menu at Treat Yo Elf. The Christmas Bread Pudding was a hearty portion size and topped with white chocolate, raspberry sauce, and whipped cream. As a self-proclaimed bread pudding connoisseur, my husband rated this plate five stars.

Rosey Cheeks Cheesecake

My personal favorite guilty pleasure sweet is cheesecake, which is why I gravitated toward the Rosy Cheeks Cheesecake. Much like the Christmas Bread Pudding from this stand, this cheesecake was served in a large portion size. The traditional flavor of cheesecake was evenly combined with raspberry filling and made for a mouthwatering dessert.

Turtle Trek Beignets

The Turtle Trek Beignets combine caramel, chocolate chips, pecans, and whipped cream together to add another delicacy on our list. While you may want to keep this one away from the younger ones in your party due to mess potential, it was fantastic to feast on with a fork.

Fresh Baked Deep-Dish Cookie – S’mores

It’ll be hard to keep this cookie away from Santa! Cookies are available at many of the booths this year, as it is a traditional treat for jolly ol’ St. Nick on Christmas Eve. We nibbled on a s’mores cookie that had a delicious marshmallow and caramel center. Once again, the portion size was fairly large and is perfect for couples to split! 

Specialty Peppermint Flavored Hot Cocoa with Make Any Drink Jolly

Before finishing our day by visiting the penguins in Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin, I wanted to make sure to have a hot cup of cocoa in my hands to keep warm in this icy exhibit. I decided to responsibly participate in “making spirits bright” by adding Bailey’s Irish Cream to unwind after a long day of exploring the park. It was the perfect drink to sip on while observing my favorite SeaWorld display filled with magnificent creatures.

At today’s press conference, the ride layout and stats were unveiled to fully illustrate the scope of this surf as we await to experience it for ourselves. In this first-of-its-kind coaster, guests will hang ten with simulated wave movement while reaching speeds of up to 60 miles per hour and soaring up to 110 feet in height. With a harness that keeps you secure as it creates the feel of riding the waves, there is no other surf coaster like this in the world.

This morning, we were amped to speak with Jonathan Smith, the Corporate Vice President of Rides and Engineering, as he shared more about Pipeline: The Surf Coaster. “We are going to celebrate the iconic surfing cultures found throughout the world with the attraction,” Smith detailed. “It’s not necessarily going to be a ‘California-feel’ or a ‘Florida-feel.’ We will have a little bit of everything to celebrate the surfing experience.” He also told us that various professional surfing maneuvers would be mimicked during your ride, such as an inversion that will imitate an experienced surfer’s “alley-oop” movement. With a proposed opening of Spring 2023, we are stoked to catch this wave!

This announcement arrived during the height of an exciting season for SeaWorld Orlando. This ride is making its home in the Nairobi area of the theme park and adds to the Busch Gardens skyline standing at 105 feet tall. Serengeti Flyer will have two gondolas, holding 20 guests each, that will swing opposite one another to a maximum speed of 68 miles per hour and reach a height of 135 feet in the air. In this morning’s media event, Neal Thurman, Park President of Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, noted that Serengeti Flyer would be the tallest and fastest swing-style attraction with multiple negative-G force moments. With this level of thrill, this high-flying swing will have a 48″ height requirement.

Engineers drew inspiration for Serengeti Flyers from SeaWorld San Antonio’s Tidal Surge and thought it would be a fantastic experience to bring to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay guests. Construction on this project began in January 2020 but was halted until April 2022 due to COVID-19. The Busch Gardens Tampa Bay team is ecstatic that this project’s development has resumed, as it will allow guests who may not gravitate toward rollercoasters to have the opportunity to experience a thrilling ride in a different format.

1. Guardians of the Galaxy Launching May 27

Disney has announced new details, including the official launch date of EPCOT’s newest attraction. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will begin taking guests on May 27, 2022. A new promotional video was also released alongside this announcement, revealing more details of the attraction. It looks like the Guardians of the Galaxy are enjoying some well-earned R&R when they’re interrupted by a transmission from Earth – specifically, from EPCOT. A member of Nova Corps yells out: “This is an SOS from Nova Corps … Our outpost on Earth’s EPCOT is in danger!” and later on: “Everything is disappearing!” Rocket and Groot are on it, and a sleepy Star Lord gets swept up in the next adventure for guarding the galaxy. Eson, a powerful Celestial being, is threatening EPCOT and the Guardians of the Galaxy need to come to the rescue! Cast member previews begin April 11.

2. Disney to Create Affordable Housing

Disney is planning to build an affordable housing development near Walt Disney World! The company has plans to develop nearly 100 acres of land in southwest Orange County, with the goal of eventually providing 1,300 units for qualifying applicants (including cast members). In recent years, rent and the cost of living in Central Florida has increased at a more aggressive rate than nearly anywhere else in the country, and the need for affordable housing and lifestyle management is sorely felt. While this announcement is still in very early stages (it has yet to pass any regulatory approvals), we are excited to see the parks move in this direction and make these considerations!

3. Vegan Options in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has recently expanded their menus to include options for the animal-loving witches and wizards that visit Hogsmeade Village and peruse wares in Diagon Alley. You can check out the updated menus for Three Broomsticks and Leaky Cauldron and see what looks good to you! The Magic Neep cart (Hogsmeade) also offers a vegan Shepherd’s Pasty Pie – delicious!

The Beluga Encounter allows you to personally meet beautiful and fun-loving Beluga whales in their natural habitat (Wild Arctic Exhibit). On this 30-minute walking tour, guests will learn how SeaWorld takes care of their beluga whales, and just why they are such mystifying creatures on our planet. A SeaWorld tour guide will escort guests behind the scenes to observe the layout of the mammal’s care facility. Animal trainers are waiting for you to arrive to further explain how they work with these mammals daily. They explain how much food beluga whales consume and what type of care they receive by SeaWorld’s team, so that their lives are constantly enriched.

The tour group you’re taken on is small in size, allowing for a more intimate and personal experience. Even then, the animal trainers will split the tour up in smaller groups and proceed to take you outside to where the beluga whales are. SeaWorld daytime guests will be able to see you as they look in the general exhibit viewing area. With you literally inside the exhibit, you’ll be able to get right up to where the tank begins and interact with one of the beluga whales. The animal trainer will teach you some simple movements you could emulate to communicate with the beluga whale. Lastly, you’ll be able to feed your new friend several times with fish they enjoy.

Due to how close you will get to the water, you will be asked to put all your personal belongings inside a complimentary locker within the care facility. A SeaWorld professional photographer will be present to capture these wonderful moments of you interacting with the beluga whales, but photos are not included with the price of the tour.

And now for the nuts and bolts. This tour is available most days, and starts at $60.00 per person. Due to the popularity of these animal experiences, it is highly suggested you book these tours in advance on SeaWorld’s website. Upon arrival to the park, you’ll check-in for your tour at the base of the Observation Tower and meet your tour guide there. Once ready, the tour guide will escort the tour group to the location of the experience. Park admission is required, but is not included.

Mark your calendars! Halloween Horror Nights 2022 will return on September 2 and run select nights through October 31. 10 houses, 5 scare zones, and 2 live shows are set to return for a record-breaking 43 nights! It’s never too early to start panicking for the nation’s premier Halloween event: Halloween Horror Nights 2022. This week, merchandise appeared in the Five and Dime at Universal Studios Florida and in the All-Hallows Voodoo Boutique at Universal’s Islands of Adventure.

2. Loews Portofino Bay Harbor Nights Primavera

Harbor Nights is back on April 8, 2022. Loews Portofino Bay Hotel hosts this authentic Italian evening on the Harbor Piazza, this time for springtime! This adult-friendly event features unlimited wine and food tastings, dessert options, and live music. Harbor Nights Primavera starts at 6:30 and concludes at 9:00. 3. Wonders of Xandar Pavilion at EPCOT

The merchandise location for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind was revealed this week! Treasures of Xandar is coming to the Wonders of Xandar pavilion at EPCOT. A new character called The Broker will operate the store, and as a proud Xandarian, he will offer trinkets and wares that pay tribute to Xandar. The shop will offer merchandise and a few tokens that even celebrate the Guardians of the Galaxy. We’re thrilled to see more design elements come together closer and closer to the new attraction’s launch!

1. Universal Orlando Resort Opens First Official Quiet Room

This week, Universal Orlando Resort officially opened their first quiet room. This updated space is available for use by neurodivergent guests and their families as-needed. The quiet room is a small, low-stimulation area that guests can access near the entrance to Universal Studios Florida.

2. Poseidon’s Fury Open 

After a year and a half of being closed, Poseidon’s Fury reopened to guests on March 14 in Lost Continent at Universal’s Islands of Adventure. We were there for the first archaeological expedition since August 2020, and every element of the attraction seemed sharper and better than ever! As of right now, the attraction seems to be closing before official park hours closure. While there aren’t attraction times listed on the app, Poseidon’s Fury has been closing around 6:30 on many nights.

3. TRON Officially Running Ride Vehicles 

Goodbye phase one, hello phase two! In Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom, TRON Lightcycle / Run has started officially testing ride vehicles! In this testing phase, ride vehicles are undergoing push/pull testing by Disney Imagineers. The attraction has yet to send ride vehicles off at full speed, but we can’t wait to see what this coaster looks like at full throttle!

1. Iron Gwazi Launches

Iron Gwazi opened at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay this weekend. The coaster boasts impressive qualities, including a 200-ft drop, top speeds of 76 miles an hour, and two inversions. We were lucky enough to go to the VIP party the night before Iron Gwazi officially opened, and we’ve gotta say – the only thing better than Iron Gwazi during the day is Iron Gwazi at night!

2. Super Nintendo World Opening Soon 

In an interesting announcement this week, Universal revealed that Super Nintendo World will open at Universal Studios Hollywood in 2023. This will be the first Super Nintendo World in the United States, despite Universal’s Epic Universe eventually opening here in Orlando. Universal’s Epic Universe is still very much under construction and is expected to open in summer 2025. These plans will include a Super Nintendo World. If the same world at Universal Studios Japan is anything to consider, it will be the most highly immersive space in the theme park world.

3. EPCOT Closes Attraction

The EPCOT Experience in the Odyssey Pavilion will close its doors permanently on March 14. EPCOT is in the process of a heavy remodeling and is sustaining a lot of construction, and The EPCOT Experience was an interactive walkthrough attraction that put all these plans on parade. Although progress slowed down tremendously due to the pandemic, the past 18 months have shown great change at EPCOT in many ways. The France Pavilion expanded to include a new attraction, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, and a quick-service restaurant, Le Creperie de Paris. EPCOT also debuted a new nighttime spectacular on October 1 in conjunction with 50th anniversary celebrations. Club Cool got a facelift and Creations Shop replaced MouseGear as the place to get all the best merchandise. 

We can’t wait to see what the next 18 months hold for this park!

4. TRON Lightcycle / Run Is Back on Track

Things are really moving over in Tomorrowland at Disney’s Magic Kingdom. TRON Lightcycle / Run will start testing ride vehicles soon, according to Disney Imagineer Zach Riddley. The ride vehicles will start at relatively slow speeds and then increase their velocity as testing permits. Guests enjoying the PeopleMover will have a great view of these test runs soon! TRON Lightcycle / Run is the second of its kind. TRON Lightcycle Power Run opened in Shanghai Disneyland nearly six years ago, and plans for bringing a similar attraction to Magic Kingdom were made five years ago.

5. Disney Genie+ adds Festival of Fantasy Parade

This week, the Festival of Fantasy parade returned to Magic Kingdom after two years of being gone. Guests were able to see Peter Pan on his flying pirate ship, Flynn Rider swinging on a float, and of course, the Maleficent dragon. This week, Disney Genie+ added a Festival of Fantasy viewing area to the app, reserving a space for guests who wish to add this feature to their day.
