E.T. Adventure at Universal Studios Florida

OI Center

Posted Image
E.T. Adventure at Universal Studios Florida.

Location
Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone.

Restrictions and access
34 inches; has Express Pass access.

Two sentence insider summary
Help E.T. save his dying planet! This attraction, designed for the whole family, is a gondola-style dark ride that is very similar to Peter Pan’s Flight at Magic Kingdom (with a little alien spin on It’s A Small World at the end).

Fear factor
1 out of 5.

Wait times
Generally not more than 15 minutes, and many times it is 5 minutes or less.

What you wish you knew before you experienced it
When asked, you should have given the ride attendant a funny nickname for yourself. Also, keep in mind that if you have small kids who haven’t seen E.T. yet, his appearance and that of his friends may be a bit off-putting.

OI fun fact
During the ride, notice that E.T. only appears in your bike basket when you are about to fly!

Opening time reminder
When crowd levels are slow to moderate, the attractions inside Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone, including E.T. Adventure, typically do not open until 10:00am. When crowd levels are busy to very busy, the attractions typically open when the park opens at 9:00am. Visit our Universal Orlando crowd calendar (the link will open in a new window) to determine the crowd levels for your travel dates.

The opening time for each of the KidZone attractions is listed in Universal Orlando’s in-park map, which you can pick up at the front of the theme parks.

Has anyone heard if they are going to update E.T. Adventure? I know it's an iconic ride but I think that it could use an updating. Are there many kids today who even knew who E.T. was? When we were at USF last June, the ride looked rather run down and it broke down while we were in line. I don't think they should get rid of it but I'd like to see a major facelift for it. Any other comments?

Rides breakdown all the time, most rides breakdown I should think at least everyday. It's just unfortunate when your on one when it does it. ET is pretty iconic, it is really Spielberg's last presence in USF apart from Jurassic Park. I can't see Universal removing it anytime. If they would they'd need a huge child-friendly franchise to replace it with i.e. something like Despicable Me which there just isn't.

It will probably just be updated if anything. I love the smells in the ride, reminds me of fond memories when I was a kid in USF.

I don't see ET going anywhere anytime soon. Maybe a facelift but there are several other attractions on the chopping block before ET (twister, disaster, fear factor)

I think Universal should fine some money in the budget to update it. I liked the ride but it just reminded of the older ones at MK, which IMO all of them need updating.

I agree it really is an iconic ride but honestly, it is really old. However, I don't see it going anywhere. I do think that maybe it would be best to just clear it out and make space for new rides with all of the new expansions going on in Universal recently.

I don't think it's about finding the money as much as it is waiting in line for it's turn. They can't close half the park for updating although it does feel like it sometimes.

I love the ET ride, though it gets a bit freaky when it gets to his home planet.  I think the kids areas needs updating though, and surely there's an obvious contender - build Bikini Bottom!! They've already got The Spongebob Giftshop - they could add the Krusty Krab, have a Mrs Puff's driving school etc etc.

Bikini Island would be a great idea. My grandkids love Sponge Bob and would have a blast with an area like that!

I don't particularly like the ride (I'm a bit on the old side) but I think it is one that they should keep and update. ET will always be a popular film. I think Ongebob has jumped the shark. Maybe a few years ago it would have worked.

Ironically, I must be one of the few people in the world who has never seen ET.

I think as well it needs some retweeking. My husband and I loved ET when we were kids, but really most kids don't know it today.

I hope E.T. will be around for a long time. I know they've recently done some "renovations" on it. They're not things that guests would notice, but a lot of overall improvements for general upkeep. With that being said, hopefully this means that since Universal is putting money into it that it will be around for quite some time.

As much as I love UOR there isn't much there that I really have an emotional reaction or connection. E.T. however is one of the only attractions that I can ride comfortably and really enjoy, and also get the warm and fuzzie reaction I am so used to getting at the Disney Parks.

It is the one attraction that if removed would really make me very sad. However, I know it's time may eventually come.

I had heard the Smurfs, but part 2 bombed at the boxoffice. Besides, I heard ET was Spielberg's favorite and didn't want it taken out of the park. That is rumor, so I don't know how true it is.

Thank goodness, I heard this is a great ride and that the above listed on the chopping block deserve to go before E.T.

Has anyone got evacuated Off ET?
I really want to see this ride backstage.... and or get a tour.
Anyone have any pic or videos

As others have stated, ET isn't going anywhere any time soon. The rest of the Kidzone on the other hand is a completely different story. :)

A note on ET (and other rides) breaking down: It's very rare that anything actually breaks. It's almost always a guest or a sensor causing a stoppage, not something breaking. Usually when something breaks the ride will be down for an hour or two, if not for the rest of the day. Most of the ride closures you'll see day to day are much shorter than that and more of a "restart."

And cornell749- Evacs off ET are pretty rare now days; I've never seen any pictures or footage of one.

I have been inside of the ride path area of ET, nothing really special that you can't see while on the ride.

OMG. Bite your tongue! E.T. Is perfect just the way it is!! There was a rumor I read about a year ago that they were closing E.T. and I was devastated. (I'm really passionate about E.T., sorry.). I like the old-school feel of the ride, to be honest. I hope they never close it down.

Rockit, mummy MIB, ET, been all over the Simpsons building, been all over the T2 building, all over the Jurassic Park River building and on top of it. On top of the FJ show building and I think that's about it.

No they are rather strict about it. I would also like to note I did all of this as an employee with proper access. No one should at any time attempt to access any restricted areas at any time while in the parks.

I liked it, was very refreshing to get on something that didn't make me feel dizzy or sick,lol... I loved the old school feel to it, course this is coming from someone who grew up during the whole ET phase ;)

That was my sentiments, too.  E.T. was HUGE when I was a little kid.  I wrote a ride review that talks about how much E.T. played a part of my early childhood (I mention Speak and Spell, geraniums, and Atari, but I totally forgot to mention the cereal-- you ever eat E.T. cereal?!?)  I think E.T., although an older movie, is still a classic and culturally relevant.  But that's just me and I'm obviously biased.

I read a while back that they were going to close E.T. for something else. It was just a rumor and I can't remember what they said they were going to put in its place. I think I would be okay with it going away.

Yes, I remember ET cereal, hadn't thought about it in years, almost forgot, lol :D
