Super Nintendo World has been announced for Universal Studios Japan. It is scheduled to open in time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The area will have “expansive and multi level environments filled with unprecedented, state-of-the-art rides, interactive areas, shops, and restaurants, all featuring Nintendo’s most popular characters and games.”
The expansion to Universal Studios Japan is expected to cost over 50 billion Yen (roughly $433,016,500). For comparison, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade at Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure is believed to have cost roughly $200 million. Diagon Alley at the neighboring Universal Studios Florida is believed to have a cost of around $256 million. To build this vast area, Universal Creative will use part of the park’s parking lot and undeveloped land.
Featured in Super Nintendo World will be characters and themes from the “Super Mario” series along with other popular Nintendo franchises.

Shown in the concept artwork is guests interacting with Princess Peach and Toad, Princess Peach’s Castle, Bowser’s Castle, and what appears to be a Toad themed gift shop or restaurant.
