PLEASE READ THIS – changes in park hours
Universal does not provide notifications when they change park hours after they are initially published, which can happen once, twice, or several times each month.

Our very earnest recommendation is that, regardless of what my calendar or Universal’s website shows, please contact Guest Services directly a day or two before you travel to confirm park hours for your visit: 407-224-4233 or toll-free 1-877-801-9720.

If Universal has not published park operating hours for a particular month, we provide a link so you can easily view last year’s hours for that month. You’ll find the link the quick reference section.

Posted Image Theme parks are at their busiest. Expect huge crowds, very long lines for the popular attractions with wait times over 120 minutes, and extended park operating hours. Express Passes are HIGHLY recommended and may possibly sell out. Typically, during very busy days, USF & IOA are open until 10:00pm or later. In addition, the parks may open to the general public at 8:00am, an hour earlier than usual. (Need a touring plan?)

Posted Image Theme parks are busy. Expect large crowds and long lines for the popular attractions with wait times between 60 to 90 minutes (lines will be noticeably shorter in the morning and evening). Express Passes are recommended but not necessary with good planning. Typically, during busy days, USF & IOA are open until 9:00pm. (Need a touring plan?)

Posted Image Theme parks are moderately busy. Expect ample crowds and long lines for the popular attractions with wait times between 30 and 60 minutes (lines will be much shorter in the morning and evening). Keep in mind that Universal usually performs its routine ride maintenance during moderate and slow periods, meaning that one or two major attractions could be closed – this page lists all ride closures currently scheduled. Express Passes are only recommended for those guests who don’t want to deal with any lines, or who are trying to visit both parks in one day. Typically, during moderate days, USF & IOA are open until 8:00pm. (Need a touring plan?)

Posted Image Theme parks are slow. Expect few crowds and minimal lines with wait times for popular attractions 30 minutes or less. Keep in mind that Universal usually performs its routine ride maintenance during moderate and slow periods, meaning that one or two major attractions could be closed – this page lists all ride closures currently scheduled. Express Passes are not recommended. Typically, during slow days, USF & IOA are open until 7:00pm.

Posted Image Scheduled operating hours for Universal Studios Florida (USF). Please be aware that theme park operating hours may change at any time without notice. If no park hours are listed for a particular date, then Universal has yet to make them available to the public.

Posted Image Scheduled operating hours for Islands of Adventure (IOA). Please be aware that theme park operating hours may change at any time without notice. If no park hours are listed for a particular date, then Universal has yet to make them available to the public.

Have you ever thought of doing a Disney World and Sea-World crowd calendar at all? Which be a great feature to the site.

I don't disagree with you, and once upon a time I thought about expanding our vacation planning pages beyond Universal. However, nowadays I've decided to focus on strengthening our Univeresal information and expanding the services we offer our fans, like adding these forums. Between those two goals and just trying to keep up with Universal's developments (Springfield, Transformers, Cabana Bay, Diagon Alley, King Kong, etc., etc.), I can barely keep my head above water as is!

We do, of course, occasionally cover SeaWorld and Disney World in our blog posts. But, for vacation planning, we're fully dedicated to being the premier independant resource for Universal guests - and any extra time and energy I have goes into re-doubling those efforts :)

Will you be making changes to the crowd calender once you get more of an idea on how the crowds will be once Diagon Alley opens up? Or have you already made these adjustments accordingly?

Waiting for the opening day announcement, then updates will be made (everything will just get busier and busier until August).

Thanks. I'll get our calendar updated either first thing Monday or Tuesday morning.

PS. A quick glance doesn't reveal anything too surprising - July is easy because the parks have practically the exact same hours through the whole month:

Dan what are your thoughts for the later months of the year, in regarding to DA? Will it still be as crowded?

Just out of interest...why does IOA open an hour before Universal?

Is it just to do with crowd control?

Thanks :)

I would think that with slight deviations for Park Special Events ( things like Star Wars weekends ) all the parks in the Orlando area would have about the same crowd loads as Universal on the same days.

Certainly from an overall perspective, busy and slow seasons are similair for all of Central Florida's theme parks. However, Disney has a lot more special events - especailly with runDisney - so they have a lot more two- or three-day spikes in their crowd calendars.

This remains to be seen, but for now, I'd plan on expecting Diagon Alley itself to be "busy" or "very busy" basically for one solid year after it opens.

It used to be because the Wizarding World was at IOA, making IOA the busier of the two parks. Now that Diagon Alley is opening, honestly, I'm not sure why they are keeping with this setup. I expect the published hours to change once Diagon Alley actually opens.

We have a few big updates to talk about today. First, Universal has shortened its hours for several dates in May. The individual changes are too many to list here, so if you’re traveling in May, just be sure to see the new hours listed.

Second, Universal has published their park hours for July, and we’ve updated our calendar (no surprises with their numbers).

Third, and perhaps most importantly, we have now updated our crowd predictions for the months of May, June, July, and August to take into account the opening of Diagon Alley. Please note that Universal has not announced the grand opening date of Diagon Alley – what we’ve provided is based on the best information we have from unofficial sources.

Friendly reminders: If you’re planning a visit during Spring Break this year, please be aware of the schedule for Universal’s Grad Bash events, when the parks close exceptionally early to the general public. Also, if you are planning a visit this summer or fall, heed our warnings about Diagon Alley.

Heads up...

To go along with our crowd calendar updates we posted yesterday (see the post above this one), we have now also updated our Universal Orlando attraction wait times based on crowd levels page to include the major rides and experiences in Diagon Alley.

Please note that, because the Diagon Alley attractions are not actually open yet, what we’ve provided is our best guess for now – we will be updating our numbers frequently once Diagon Alley officially opens to the general public.

Just added this to our wait times page as a general FYI...

Diagon Alley will likely use a return ticket system that will control the amount of guests allowed inside the area at one time. Depending on how busy it is, there may be up to a five hour wait just to get inside Diagon Alley. Please note that our wait times estimates assume you’re already inside the area. If you’d like to learn more about this topic, see our page covering the return ticket system for Hogsmeade.

Yikes, looks like it might be better to stay home...

Thanks for info Dan!

Will be sure to save this before heading to Orlando in June/July

A new month means another update to our free crowd calendar!

First, April 2015 has been added. Second, we want to bring to your attention that, if you’re traveling this month, Islands of Adventure is closing early on several nights – so please plan your days accordingly.

Now for the biggest reminder of all: our crowd predictions for the months of June, July, and August have been updated to take into account the opening of Diagon Alley.

FYI, it looks like Islands of Adventure is opening at 8am this Friday and next. I'm planning to be in Orlando next week, so I've been keeping an eye on the Universal website.

OI has been a great help in planning. Thanks!
