Reader poll: Should Fear Factor Live close and what should replace it?

|

Fear Factor Live inside of Universal Studios Florida is a considered by some fans to be an impressive stunt show whose theme — having guests volunteer in the production of a TV show — fits perfectly in the spirit of the park. Yet many other Universal fans criticize the show as being outdated and an awkward feature in the park’s lineup.

The show has been closed for almost two months as its amphitheater was used for Bill & Ted’s Excellent Halloween Adventure, part of Halloween Horror Nights. Now that HHN is over, Fear Factor Live should be coming back to Universal’s schedule soon… but should it?

In this week’s Reader Poll we are taking a slightly different approach. First, we ask you if Fear Factor Live should be replaced. Then we ask what you’d like to see as its replacement. For example, if you vote that Fear Factor should be replaced with a new show, would you like to see some sort of Harry Potter production? The amphitheater is right next to Diagon Alley, after all.

So first, the vote (current tally will be revealed after you make your selection)…

Note: You don’t have to sign into a social network to vote, that is just a feature offered. If you prefer to vote anonymously, click your selection in the poll and when you see the pop up, click “Keep vote anonymous”.

Now, if you voted for a change, leave a comment below and let us know what you’d like to see replace Fear Factor Live. Or, if someone already mentioned your idea below, you can ‘like’ their comment. Finally, If you voted to keep the show, we’d also like to hear why you think it should stay.

Once you’re done with this post, you can view all or our Reader Polls or you can view our dedicated page to Fear Factor Live in the OI Universal Center.

It might be nice to see something like The Voice or America’s Got Talent there. I know Disney has American Idol, but it’s always been a pretty popular show and it allows for audience participation which is what you expect if you’re visting a production studio.

Yes replace it. What to put? Hmmm tough question. Stunt show would be good, magic show but a good one that’s make u really wonder how they did that.

while it seems like a good idea, there’s a couple of problems – 1. the material needs to be constantly fresh (i.e. just like how Beetlejuice tends to take small jabs at current pop culture), and 2. the material has to be family friendly to a point where it’s PG.

Hmm… it clearly needs to go, but what to replace it with is tricky, very tricky. For one, the theming is that area is a mess at the moment. Its a hodge podge of random Intellectual Property.  Fear Factor is between London and World Expo(MIB). And next to World Expo is now Springfield… So how do you transition between Harry Potter, MIB and The Simpsons???? Is there even an attraction that can bridge these themes?  Something in this area has to change… In all honesty, I can’t believe they didn’t just level it and add more to potter since that’s clearly… Read more »

MIB is a great attraction and I don’t feel it should be removed. The whole “working movie studio” idea is completely out dated. The thrill is getting to enter the movie and be a part of it. To live the movie.

@Drebe73 I also love MIB (the ride, that is) and it does need to stay.  But sitting between Potter and Springfield, it is way too hodge-podge here, which is especially bad since it’s an area that is very visible from anywhere around the lake. If a Potter expansion needs to go outside the current walls of London, I would’ve liked to see it go over to the Disaster building, but that’s clearly going to be King Kong now, so if it were to expand it would have to go over to the theater. Though rearranging the backstage area would work better… Read more »

Definitely remove the theater all together, so we don’t have to endure another lame Bill & Ted’s show. I wouldn’t necessarily suggest expanding Potter unless it fits well as an extension of the current expansion. I’m not too apposed to it being another stand alone attraction, it’s all how it is incorporated into the landscape.

I LOVE the Fear Factor show, but mostly because I love to do it! I’ve done it 3 times, and all 3 times I had a BLAST! I’m impressed with how professional everything is backstage. It’s seriously amazing. People pay hundreds of dollars for thrills like that, and I got to do it for free! Thrice!

Hate to burst people’s bubbles about the exciting grown-up options, but there is very little to excite little kids and make families go to this park.  They should put in a Nickelodeon play area, with characters like Dora and Fairly Oddparents and other tv cartoon favourites.  Barney is dead in terms of pop culture and should be pulled, and Woody Woodpecker?  Let’s retheme that one.
The big pull for my kids is the Minions right now, and Harry Potter is still a little too scary for them (age 3, 6, and 7)

I’m assuming that Nickelodeon is still associated with Universal, so that’s a very good question. Or, why haven’t they rethemed the water area of USF to SpongeBob? Makes perfect sense. SpongeBob is insanely popular with kids AND adults and he would be a good replacement for ET. You can float through Bikini Bottom!

cdnmediamommy There is little to excite families WITH little kids, but ours are 7 and 9 and they would rather spend a week at each Universal park than ever step foot into a WDW park again. And the same goes for the adults in our family. Not every park needs to appeal to those who can’t write their names yet.
That said, I mentioned long ago that USF missed a big opportunity by not putting the Minions into the ET building and retheming the kiddie area to Super Silly Funland.

The question is why have universal studios built there own movie/TV based waterpark with sponge Bob for the kids and jaws and water world for the adults.
