What are Honu ika Moana?
Honu ika Moana are actually two slides put together side by side. Their full names are a little on the long side: Honu of the Honu ika Moana and – you guessed it – ika Moana of the Honu ika Moana.
Let’s touch on each of them individually:
Honu: ride the underwater currents on a sea turtle, just like the ancient Waturi people used to. This multi-person animal raft speeds up two massive walls, through ocean mists, and down into “sparkling” pools.
Ika Moana: ride the ocean waves on a whale, just like the ancient Waturi people used to. This multi-person animal raft sprays water on its passengers from its center – made to look like the whale’s blowhole – while it twists and turns along the waterway.
Where are Honu ika Moana located?
In River Village, which is in Volcano Bay.
Height Restrictions and Other Factors
Honu: height requirement is 48 inches; two to five riders on the raft at a time; 700 pounds combined weight; has Express Pass access.
Ika Moana: 42 inches to ride; must be 48 inches to ride alone; two to five riders on the raft at a time; 750 pounds combined weight; has Express Pass access.
Honu ika Moana – what you wish you knew before you experienced them
Honu (sea turtle) is a blue slide; ika Moana (whale) is a green slide. Many assume the colors would be the opposite.
How scary are Honu ika Moana?
Honu: we rate Honu five out of five speedy sea turtles in terms of fear factor. While the ride’s over quickly, the walls can be quite terrifying.
Ika Moana: two out of five docile whales. While it is tall, it is a relatively calm slide.
