Florean Fortescue’s Ice-Cream Parlor

What is Florean Fortescue’s Ice-Cream Parlour?

Made famous in the Harry Potter books, Florean Fortescue’s Ice-Cream Parlour serves up an exquisite variety of unique flavors in soft-serve and hard-pack forms. The small, pastel-colored shop has an adorably vintage flair that will truly transport you right to the Wizarding World. The windows feature delightful displays of spinning ice cream cones, with a light-up cone on the roof serving as the veritable cherry on top. There’s no seating inside the shop, but you can find some over in Carkitt Market – just be sure to keep that precious, melting cargo safe as you pass by the fire-breathing dragon atop Gringotts Wizarding Bank!

Florean Fortescue’s Ice-Cream Parlour – OI fun facts

Despite being a relatively minor side character, Florean Fortescue still makes an impression on Harry Potter. In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry stays at The Leaky Cauldron in Diagon Alley for a spell (get it?). During this time, he often works on his homework in Florean Fortescue’s Ice-Cream Parlour, where Fortescue offers him advice on his History of Magic report (along with serving him ice cream sundaes every half-hour, of course!). It turns out that, in addition to being a master ice cream maker, Fortescue knows his fair share about medieval wizards.

Along with the unique backstory of the establishment’s proprietor, Florean Fortescue’s Ice-Cream Parlour is also known for offering “hundreds-and-thousands” as a topping – or, as we Americans call them, sprinkles. This is yet another example of the Wizarding World’s dedication to theming through the use of British vernacular.

Peanut Butter and Strawberry Jam FTW
Date Of Last Visit: October, 2015

Florean Fortescue's is a bit sparse and utilitarian in decoration compared to other Diagon Alley shops and stores,. However, the ice cream is terrific. Harry Potter supernerds (such as I) may be momentarily disappointed: this shop does NOT sell "choco-nut" sundaes which Harry gets (for free!) in the third book. However, any disappointment is soon dispersed as what Florean's does have is delicious. I have not tried all the flavors, but I'm going to have a really hard time not choosing Earl Grey and the Strawberry/Peanut Butter combo for the rest of my life. They are superb and complement one another perfectly. I want some right now. . it's too bad you can't magically summon food.

A Must Go!
Date Of Last Visit: 8/14/2014

The ice cream here is phenomenal. I tried Earl Grey & Lavender, Chocolate & Raspberry, and the butter better. I will have dreams about the earl grey. So light, so delicious.

Some things to know:

- You get 2 scoops of any two flavors you'd like in the cup or waffle cone.

- There are NO samples, but if you don't like the flavor, you can tell them and they will make you a new one.

- You can get the butter beer ice cream next door at the butter beer shop for half the wait (or less)

- It's $5 a cup. Totally worth it.

Although the shop itself wasn't very "Harry Potter" theme-like, I would definitely stop by here!

A Cool Fact

Did you know that you can get two separate flavors when you order the scooped icecream? No extra charge. So you can try the strawberry peanut butter and the chocolate raspberry!
