Disney vs. Universal
Disney vs. Universal.

It’s time to head to the front lines again and fight the theme park wars. And in honor of this week’s one-year anniversary of The Simpsons‘ Fast Food Blvd’s grand opening, this fortnight’s battle is going to be waged around food.

Only one side can be victorious, and you’re the one to determine the outcome.

Previous poll

What’s the most important element in a theme park land?

Unsurprisingly, the biggest answer, by far, was “attractions (rides, shows, etc.),” with 302 out of 535 votes (56%). And in second place was “overall design of the land (layout, architectural details, music),” which nabbed 225 votes (42%). What was surprising, however, was the dead-last finisher: “dining (food quality, design of venues, etc.),” which garnered only three(!) votes. Apparently, theme park guests like to shop more than they like to eat.

Disney vs. Universal
Disney vs. Universal.

This week, Universal psyched us all out when it flew The Today Show’s Al Roker out to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley to record a segment that many of us believe will formally announce the expansion’s grand opening date – only to delay its broadcast ‘til next week, presumably to go head-to-head against Disney’s big press event celebrating the opening of the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.

This got us to thinking: in the knock-down, drag-out fight that is Universal versus Disney, how are the rankings looking so far? If we were to compare the two titans on a list of specific points, who would end up being the victor (before this summer, at least)?

So let’s get to it! Starting with these topics, who’s winning the theme park wars?

Previous poll

FastPass+ vs. Express Pass

This one was no contest: Universal’s Express Passes blew Disney’s FastPass+ system out of the water without a second glance, 426 to 150 votes (that’s a whopping 74% to 26%). Of course, now that Disney has announced it’s going to be overhauling FP+, that poll may turn out very differently in the near future…

Join us over in the still-new Orlando Informer Community Forums to vote on and debate over which forthcoming Universal Orlando attraction is the most exciting. So far, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic is leading the pack, but there’s still a chance for the likes of King Kong’s Skull Island or Universal’s monorail to break ahead.
