Halloween Horror Nights is turning 35, and Universal Orlando is celebrating in a way it never has before: by finally putting its two most famous rivals on the same marquee. Jack the Clown and Dr. Oddfellow have called a truce (sort of) to serve as co-“ringmasters of fear” for this year’s event theme: the Infernal Carnival of Nightmares. The title’s first letters spell out I.C.O.N., a nod to just how much HHN history the two of them represent. This year’s event runs on select nights through November 1.
2026’s lineup leans hard into nostalgia and crossover appeal. Vecna returns for one last stand against the kids of Hawkins. Ozzy Osbourne gets a tribute a year after his passing. The Hellraiser Cenobites, a resurrected Evil Dead family, and the vampires of Sinners’ Club Juke all bring their own brand of horror to this year’s lineup. And original concepts, from a defunct zoo full of cannibals to a small-town alien abduction to a killer late-night TV special, round out a slate that’s as ambitious as any in the event’s history.

10. Evil Dead Burn
Family gatherings are never easy, and this one comes with Deadites. The house’s exterior alone is a highlight for fans of the film, recreating an iconic shot from the movie’s opening in a way that immediately sets the tone.
Inside, the set design goes all in on the source material’s cramped, chaotic geography: oversized staircases and impossibly large rooms that make you feel like you’ve been shrunk down and dropped into the middle of someone else’s nightmare. Following Alice as her in-laws turn one by one, the house rewards close attention with plenty of nods to earlier entries in the Evil Dead franchise.
It’s one of the more genuinely frightening houses on this list, though the story moves so fast that some guests may come out unsure of exactly what they just lived through.
9. Stranger Things 5
Vecna’s endgame against Eleven and the rest of Hawkins gets the full HHN treatment, and the production scale alone makes this one worth the wait. The house culminates in a strikingly massive set piece: a demogorgon suspended in the air during Will’s climactic confrontation.
Every major character from the show’s final season shows up, and the scare actors clearly understand these roles inside and out, channeling real desperation and dread rather than just jump-scare choreography.
The catch is that this house is built for the fandom first. If you’ve never watched an episode of Stranger Things, a lot of the emotional weight and a few of the scares will likely sail past you. For longtime viewers, though, it’s a fitting send-off.
8. MADLANDS: Caged Cannibals
The animals are long gone from the defunct zoo in this post-apocalyptic world, but beastly tendencies never disappeared. This original concept leads guests through a series of former animal enclosures, each now home to a colony of humans who’ve adopted the mannerisms and appetites of the species that once lived there.
It’s a wonderfully maximalist house, packed with detail in every room, and it rewards repeat visits: the placards describing each former exhibit are still there, now repurposed with grim new context, and the score shifts scene to scene to match the “species” on display.
Few original houses this year commit as fully to their premise, and the result is one of the most disturbing houses of the whole event.
7. INVASION: Alien Abduction
A colony of Grays crash-lands in a quiet suburban house and starts hunting for test subjects, and this house wastes no time making that premise feel dangerous. Gone are the cartoonish aliens of years past; these Grays are lean, clawed, and legitimately unsettling. Vibrating floors and rooms that seem to tilt and drift underfoot do a lot of the heavy lifting here, and the house leans hard into a full sensory assault: unnerving smells, a droning soundscape, and a shaking floor that keeps you off balance from start to finish.
The house’s biggest miss is variety: with only a few human victims driving the story, the scares start to feel a little one-note by the back half. Still, few houses this year manage to make guests feel quite this hunted.
6. Sinners
Opening night at Club Juke goes sideways fast when the Smokestack twins’ celebration is interrupted by vampires with an appetite for more than music, and it’s now up to whoever’s left to make it to sunrise. The house captures the film’s mix of joy and heartbreak better than we expected from a haunted house. The juke joint set feels lived-in and full of warmth right up until it isn’t, which makes the turn hit harder.
A flying vampire effect is a clear highlight, swooping toward guests in a way that gets a reaction every time, and the scare actors bring real love and sadness to a story that’s ultimately about both.
This is a strong debut for the film at HHN, and the kind of house that horror fans and blues fans alike should make time for.
5. Cybergoria
Immortality sounds appealing right up until the machines promising it start harvesting you for parts, and this house is among the most frightening things HHN has produced in recent years. More than one guest has certainly come out of Cybergoria at a near sprint.
The house leans into full-body discomfort: water dripping unexpectedly, bursts of air catching you off guard, and foul scents lingering throughout, while sirens and mechanical shrieks keep the tension at a constant boil. The scale of the puppetry and practical effects work is enormous, and the whole experience feels gritty and claustrophobic in a way that’s hard to shake off even after you’ve left the building.
If you only have room for one truly terrifying house this year, make it this one.
4. Hellraiser
The Lament Configuration finally gets its due at HHN, and this house, built from the first three Hellraiser films, earns its spot through sheer craftsmanship. The layout itself is one of the year’s most clever, with sightlines that let you glimpse other guests moving through nearby rooms, a disorienting touch that makes the house feel larger and more alive than it actually is.
Pinhead, Julia, Frank, Chatterer, Butterball, and a full ensemble of Cenobites all make appearances, and the Boiler Room sequence, dense with chains built for tearing bodies apart, is one of the most memorably grotesque single scenes of the year.
This is a house built with sincere reverence for its source material, and fans of the franchise should feel like they’ve been let in on something they’ve waited decades to see.
3. Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness
A year after his passing, Universal built the most fitting possible tribute to Ozzy Osbourne: a house that walks guests directly into the sets of his most iconic music videos and eras, from the theatrical spectacle of the “Bark at the Moon” years to the unmistakable image of the “Crazy Train”.
What makes this house work, even for guests who’ve never listened to a single Ozzy record, is how deliberately it’s staged as a story rather than a highlight reel. Each scene builds on the last, tying together the showmanship and the horror in a way that feels emotionally honest by the end.
The scale of the sets, the quality of the masks and costuming, and the way the music itself becomes part of the scares all come together into something that longtime fans will find moving, and that should win over plenty of new fans in the process.
2. Jack & Oddfellow: Chaos & Control
Given how central Jack the Clown and Dr. Oddfellow are to this year’s overall theme, it makes sense that Universal gave the two rivals their own house: a psychological trip through the “Oddverse,” where Jack’s chaos collides head-on with Oddfellow’s obsessive control.
It’s billed as an origin story for the pair’s long-running feud, and it carries real weight once you know the history: Oddfellow had Jack killed decades ago, hiding his body inside a wooden music box in his own House of Horrors, where it sat forgotten for the better part of a century. The house recreates that original betrayal directly, putting guests face-to-face with the moment Oddfellow forced Jack’s body into the box that would hold him for generations.
Highlights include a spinning hallway that throws off your sense of balance, and that striking box confrontation itself, which spills straight into Oddfellow’s own twisted universe as things spiral further out of control.
1. H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: A Halloween Fright-Tacular!
Fifteen years after his HHN debut in Holidays of Horror, everyone’s favorite unhinged late-night host is back, and this sequel manages to be both one of the funniest and one of the most technically impressive houses of the year. Structured as a series of sketches for Bloodengutz’s newest TV special, the house reintroduces beloved faces like the Pumpkin Lord and Eddie from the Universal Horror Make-Up Show while inventing a batch of new characters, Pumpkin Spice monsters and a Horseless Headsman among them, that land as legitimately funny riffs on horror archetypes.
The Dr. Pumpkinspice room is a particular standout and, according to its creators, one of the year’s riskiest design decisions that ultimately paid off.
If you want scares wrapped in a healthy dose of comedy, this is the house to prioritize.

4. Infernal Carnival of Nightmares (Production Central)
This year’s title zone doubles as the event’s front door, and it makes a strong first impression: Jack and Dr. Oddfellow preside over the carnage from a raised platform near the entrance, interacting with guests who pass beneath them.
The decayed circus theming and classic HHN signage set the tone well, and statues lining the street tease the intellectual property houses waiting elsewhere in the park, making for one of the better photo stops of the night.
The one drawback is staying power: once the crowds thin out later in the evening, the zone can start to feel a little empty for how much real estate it covers.
3. FORTNITEMARES (Central Park)
Dropping Fortnite into HHN could have gone either way, but this scare zone threads the needle nicely for fans and non-players alike. The costuming and set dressing are sharp enough to sell the world, even if you’ve never picked up a controller.
The zone does a good job of putting guests in the middle of the action: oversized weapons, smoke effects, and trees that showcase the storm closing in all work together to make the street feel like an active battle rather than a static display. It manages the same trick HHN scare zones have always relied on: mixing genuine spectacle with just enough fun to keep things from feeling grim.
Keep an eye out for the projection mapping on the Garden of Allah facade.
2. Sideshow of Decay (Hollywood)
Cindy Caine, the adopted daughter of 2002’s Dr. Albert Caine (aka The Caretaker), teams up with Dr. Oddfellow to resurrect a rotating cast of HHN characters from years past, and the result feels like a genuine love letter to the event’s history. Guests might cross paths with SINIST3R & SURR3AL from HHN 33, Lady Luck from HHN 21, or callbacks to houses and zones like Goblin’s Feast and Jungle of Doom, and no two walks through the zone play out quite the same way.
A show sequence in the middle of the street ties the whole concept together, and the blend of new and familiar faces gives this zone a sense of scale and history that’s hard to replicate. It’s a clear standout for longtime HHN fans in particular.
1. Downtown Clowntown (New York)
If clowns are your fear, consider this fair warning: this zone is the biggest and most ambitious of the year. One stretch belongs to the Killer Klowns from Outer Space, with benches near Gramercy Park offering a good vantage point to sit back and watch the chaos unfold if you need a break from the scares.
Elsewhere, Chance leads a sprawling assortment of clowns spanning eras and styles (harlequins, sideshow performers, classic horror clowns, even stilt-walkers), including callbacks to the Treaks and Foons from 2002’s Islands of Fear.
The zone closes out with Art the Clown from the Terrifier franchise, reprising his infamous Mall Santa bit. It’s an ambitious zone that earns the top spot through sheer scale and creativity.
Honorable Mentions
Not every street experience at HHN gets the full scare zone treatment, but a handful of returning favorites still deserve a shoutout this year.
Death Eaters search The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley, casting their usual air of dread over the cobblestones. It’s a subtle touch, but it remains one of the more effective ways HHN weaves horror into a section of the park that isn’t technically home to a house or zone.
Over in San Francisco, Club Horror keeps the party going with a live DJ and dancers turning the area into more of a nightlife scare than a traditional fright fest. It’s a welcome change of pace for guests who want a breather from jump scares without leaving the horror theming behind.
Outside Mel’s Drive-In, rebranded for the season as Mel’s Die-In, Zombie Car Hops are once again working the graveyard shift. The classic Americana setting paired with decaying car hops remains a fun, low-key bit of theming that rewards guests who wander past rather than seek it out directly.

2. Nightmare Fuel: Blood Noir
The Nightmare Fuel franchise has become a Horror Nights staple in its own right, and this year’s edition swaps out the usual dark-circus dressing for a moodier, film-noir aesthetic without losing any of the aerial stunts, pyrotechnics, and high-energy choreography that have made the series a fan favorite. Shadowy figures and a detective motif give the production a different identity than past years, even as the bones of the show (death-defying acrobatics set to a thumping score) stay reliably intact.
It’s a strong showcase for the performers, and the noir styling is a clever enough twist to keep the format from feeling stale after so many years on the same stage. It doesn’t hit quite as hard emotionally as this year’s other live offering, but as a pure spectacle, it still delivers.
1. Stranger Things: Return to Hawkins
Pairing a live show with this year’s Stranger Things 5 house is a smart bit of programming, and Return to Hawkins earns its top spot by leaning into nostalgia without simply retreading the haunted house nearby. Staged as this year’s lagoon spectacle, the show uses projection mapping and water screens to recreate a string of the series’ most iconic scenes across the water, giving the story a scale and visuals the house format can’t quite replicate. It all builds to a finale set to “Purple Rain,” a closing needle-drop that lands with more emotional weight than you’d expect from a Halloween show.
The show’s biggest strength is how well it captures the emotional core of the series alongside its horror elements, striking a balance that’s harder to pull off in a live format than it sounds. Even guests who’ve already gone through the house should find plenty of reasons to catch this one too.
