Mardi Gras Concerts, EPCOT’s Festivals, and a Minion Takeover: Your Weekly Theme-Park Recap (January 10 – 16, 2022)

|

Here’s the Orlando theme-park news you need to know for January 10 – 16.

1. Universal Orlando Resort Mardi Gras 2022 Concert Lineup Announced

This week, Universal Orlando Resort announced several big pieces of news regarding Mardi Gras 2022. Among these big announcements? The concert lineup, the parade schedule, and the Mardi Gras seasonal offerings at the hotels. Some of our favorite take-aways from the announcements? Big names like Diana Ross, Seal, and Khalid are headlining the concerts, and you know we have to try the 32-oz Laissez les bon temps rouler Hurricane at Cabana Bay Beach Resort

2. EPCOT’s International Festival of the Arts Kicks Off

On Friday, January 14, EPCOT’s International Festival of the Arts kicked off. Guests waited in huge lines for the Figment popcorn bucket and other specialty food items that the event is known for. The beautiful weather set a perfect backdrop for our day covering some of the most unique and delicious snacks and treats available at the festival. The festival is in full swing now and will run to February 21, 2022.

3. 2022 Garden Rocks Concert Series Revealed

During EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival, this concert series adds an extra element of fun to the springtime festivities. Each day during the festival, guests can sing along and dance to live performances at the America Gardens Theatre at the American Adventure Pavilion. The shows are usually a half-hour long and occur multiple times each evening.

4. The Minions Construct Walls around Shrek 4-D

If you’ve been on the internet this week, you’ll know that Shrek 4-D had its final showing on January 9. Unsurprisingly, on the morning of January 10, just mere hours after the last showing of Shrek 4-D, construction walls were placed around the old attraction. What was surprising is that the walls depict cartoon versions of some very familiar and decidedly popular animated characters – the Minions. Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem is just across from this location, so it makes sense in some ways for another Minions-themed attraction to establish a sort of Minion alleyway near the entrance of Universal Studios Florida.

While it’s obvious that the Minions are up next, there’s no official word yet on the details of the attraction. We’ll keep you posted on what’s to come.

That’s it for this week’s news! Be sure to follow Orlando Informer on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram for the latest news, tips, and more at Universal Orlando, Walt Disney World, and other Orlando attractions.
