Disney 50th announcements, Summer Nights at Busch Gardens, and OI’s new editor: Your weekly theme-park recap (June 21-27, 2021)

|

Here’s the Orlando theme park news you need to know for the week of June 21.

1.  Disney’s “World’s Most Magical Celebration” announcements continue

On the topic of its aptly named “World’s Most Magical Celebration,” Disney continues to make exciting announcements ahead of its 50th anniversary, which kicks off on October 1. This week, news on two brand-new nighttime spectaculars, as well as park-specific additions, were announced. The first of these nighttime showings is Harmonious, which will be held (promptly on October 1) on EPCOT’s World Showcase Lagoon. At Magic Kingdom, Disney Enchantment will show on Cinderella Castle and down Main Street, USA. Read about both spectaculars here. If that’s not enough, Disney also announced three park-specific additions to the 18-month celebration, including the Disney Fab 50 character sculptures and the “EARidescence” makeovers of favorite characters.

2. Busch Gardens Tampa Bay Summer Nights is in full swing!

Part of the OI team was lucky enough to visit Busch Gardens Tampa Bay early this week and check out this electrifying seasonal event. With endless good music (put on by real-live DJs), it’s impossible to go through your day and not dance a little bit. If you want a break from the dancing, you can be dazzled by the Turn It Up! ice skating show or Cirque Electric acrobatics stunt show. There’s also great food and fun cocktails to enjoy – but first, be sure to get a picture of your confections at the super cute Instagram wall or Serengeti Overlook, both by the Giraffe Bar. Don’t forget to get discounted admission with us here.

3. Jack blends in with Horror Nights horror

Universal announced this week that guests will be able to go inside Jack the Clown’s human-sized blender at Cabana Bay Beach Resort. It’s been some time since Halloween Horror Nights integrated their stunts throughout the resort’s hotels, but we are thrilled to see this return! HHN 30 has promised that guests will see Jack (the original host and icon of the cherished event) in places they least expect.

4. Universal’s Superstar Parade returns

On Saturday, June 26, Universal’s Superstar Parade cheerfully made its way through the park for the first time in over a year, marking yet another step towards normalcy and the ongoing revival of theme-park entertainment. This colorful cavalcade lit up the streets – as well as the faces of onlooking families – with larger-than-life floats, iconic characters, and energetic music.

5. Welcome

The OI team would like to formally welcome our new editor, Aryn Bordelon. She describes herself as “a Cosmically Average Florida woman striving to be a Galaxy Defender,” but we know you will fall in love with her talents as much and as quickly as we did! In the coming weeks, we hope you will help us in welcoming Aryn and getting to know her!
