The sun is shining, the daily afternoon thunderstorms are rolling through, and you can’t be outside for more than 20 minutes without being completely drenched in sweat. Summer has arrived in Central Florida, and it’s here to stay. Visiting the theme parks this time of year isn’t just about navigating rides and attractions—it’s also about staying cool while doing it. To help you make the most of your day, here are our top tips for beating the heat at Universal Epic Universe.

Essentials to Beat the Heat at Universal’s Epic Universe
One of the simplest yet most crucial things you can do to prepare for the Florida heat is to pack smart for the day ahead.
- Bring refillable water bottles – Take advantage of the free water available at Coke Freestyle machines throughout the park.
- Pack electrolyte packets – These are great for quick hydration and can help you bounce back faster from the Florida heat.
- Don’t forget sunscreen – A must-have to protect your skin from sunburn during long days outdoors.
- Wear a hat or bring an umbrella – These offer shade from the sun and can provide cover during the frequent afternoon rain showers.
- Use a portable fan or cooling towel – Perfect for staying cool and comfortable while exploring everything Universal Epic Universe has to offer.
All of these can easily fit into a small park bag that does not take up too much room or effort to carry.
What to Wear to Stay Comfortable in the Heat
When going to a theme park, it is important to be prepared for a full day of walking and activity. Dress in lightweight, breathable clothing to stay cool and avoid heavy fabrics like jeans or hoodies, which can trap heat and become uncomfortable. Wear supportive, broken-in shoes to prevent blisters and bring an extra pair of socks in case your feet get wet or you need additional cushioning.
How to Avoid Peak Heat Times at Universal Epic Universe
Mornings and evenings are typically the coolest parts of the day, making them ideal for exploring the park. To avoid the peak heat, consider taking a break between noon and 3 p.m.

If you’re able, head back to the hotel and enjoy the pool or take a nice nap. If you are not staying on Universal property, use this time to take a lunch break somewhere cool and shaded with air conditioning. Some of our favorite dining options include The Oak and Star Tavern, Toadstool Cafe, Mead Hall, Café L’air De La Sirène, and Das Stakehaus.
Smart Ways to Take a Break from the Sun

Staying cool is key during the summer months at Universal Epic Universe—and luckily, there are plenty of fun ways to do just that! If you’re looking for a quick break from the sun, consider catching one of the incredible shows in the park. The Untrainable Dragon located in How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk and Le Cirque Arcanus in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic each offer around 20 minutes of entertainment, shade, and refreshing air conditioning.

Already seen both shows? No problem! Head to a ride with a mostly indoor queue, giving you a cool escape while you wait. Great options include Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, and Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge.
“Cool” Things to Do When It’s Hot at Universal Epic Universe
Epic Universe has some unique activities to help keep you cool during some scorching days.
In Celestial Park, kids (and kids at heart) will love Astronomica, a splash pad perfect for beating the heat while having a blast.

Over in How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, Fyre Drill is an interactive boat ride that’s sure to leave you smiling—and soaked!
