Looking for a fun and affordable way to stay right in the heart of the action at Universal Orlando Resort? Universal Endless Summer Resort, made up of Surfside Inn and Suites and Dockside Inn and Suites, is the perfect choice. These two sister properties make up Universal Endless Summer Resort, offering benefits like budget-friendly rates, family-sized suites, and exclusive Universal Orlando Resort perks, all just minutes away from the parks.

Below are our top five reasons to stay at Universal Endless Summer Resort:

1. Best Value on Universal Property

Endless Summer Resort - Surfside Inn and Suites
Endless Summer Resort – Surfside Inn and Suites at Universal Orlando Resort

Surfside and Dockside belong to Universal’s Value Inns and Suites category, which consistently offers the lowest nightly rates across all Universal Orlando Resort hotels. Nightly rates typically range from around $100 to $300, depending on the season.

Even during peak times, Universal Endless Summer Resort stands out as one of the best budget-friendly ways to enjoy a Universal Orlando Resort vacation without sacrificing comfort or convenience.

2. Standard and Suite Room Options

Universal Endless Summer Resort - Dockside Inn and Suites
Universal Endless Summer Resort – Dockside Inn and Suites Standard Room

One of the most significant benefits of staying at a Universal Endless Summer Resort hotel is the flexibility in room types. Guests can choose between standard rooms or spacious two-bedroom suites. The standard option offers a studio-style layout with two queen beds, while the suites are designed with families and groups in mind. Each suite features two separate sleeping areas—a central space with two queen beds and a private room with an additional queen bed—plus a kitchenette and a picnic-style dining table, perfect for groups or families up to six.

A key difference between Surfside Inn and Suites and Dockside Inn and Suites is their size. Dockside is the larger of the two, with more than 2,000 guest rooms, while Surfside has a cozier footprint with just 750 rooms. For some guests, Surfside’s smaller size can mean shorter wait times at check-in and for shuttle buses.

3. Close Proximity to Universal Orlando Resort Theme Parks

Nestled right in the middle of the action, these hotels put guests just minutes away from all the excitement of Universal Orlando Resort. Complimentary shuttle buses typically get you to the parks in 10 minutes or less, making it easy to maximize your time at Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, Epic Universe, or Volcano Bay.

Staying at Universal Endless Summer Resort provides some consistency with all travel time, no matter which park or attraction you are heading to. While other resorts may sit closer to Epic Universe or the main transportation hub at Universal CityWalk, Surfside and Dockside strike the perfect balance with quick, convenient access to everything on property.

4. Early Park Admission Benefit for Universal Endless Summer Resort Guests

With so much to see and do at Universal Orlando Resort, every extra minute in the parks counts. All Universal Orlando Resort hotel guests, including those staying at Universal Endless Summer Resort, receive Early Park Admission benefits, giving them access to select attractions before the gates open to the general public. It’s the perfect way to get a head start on popular rides with shorter wait times. Be sure to check our Snapshot page for the latest details on which parks are offering early park admission during your stay.

5. Ultimate Beach Vibes found at Universal Endless Summer Resort

The pool areas enhance that laid-back atmosphere with palm trees and relaxing music. At Dockside, you’ll find two pools (one for each tower of rooms), while Surfside features a large, surfboard-shaped pool at the center of the resort. Both hotels also offer poolside bars serving refreshing cocktails that capture the perfect “endless summer” state of mind.

The sun is shining, the daily afternoon thunderstorms are rolling through, and you can’t be outside for more than 20 minutes without being completely drenched in sweat. Summer has arrived in Central Florida, and it’s here to stay. Visiting the theme parks this time of year isn’t just about navigating rides and attractions—it’s also about staying cool while doing it. To help you make the most of your day, here are our top tips for beating the heat at Universal Epic Universe.

Universal Epic Universe
Universal Epic Universe

Essentials to Beat the Heat at Universal’s Epic Universe

One of the simplest yet most crucial things you can do to prepare for the Florida heat is to pack smart for the day ahead.

  • Bring refillable water bottles – Take advantage of the free water available at Coke Freestyle machines throughout the park.
  • Pack electrolyte packets – These are great for quick hydration and can help you bounce back faster from the Florida heat.
  • Don’t forget sunscreen – A must-have to protect your skin from sunburn during long days outdoors.
  • Wear a hat or bring an umbrella – These offer shade from the sun and can provide cover during the frequent afternoon rain showers.
  • Use a portable fan or cooling towel – Perfect for staying cool and comfortable while exploring everything Universal Epic Universe has to offer.

All of these can easily fit into a small park bag that does not take up too much room or effort to carry.

What to Wear to Stay Comfortable in the Heat

When going to a theme park, it is important to be prepared for a full day of walking and activity. Dress in lightweight, breathable clothing to stay cool and avoid heavy fabrics like jeans or hoodies, which can trap heat and become uncomfortable. Wear supportive, broken-in shoes to prevent blisters and bring an extra pair of socks in case your feet get wet or you need additional cushioning.

How to Avoid Peak Heat Times at Universal Epic Universe

Mornings and evenings are typically the coolest parts of the day, making them ideal for exploring the park. To avoid the peak heat, consider taking a break between noon and 3 p.m.

The Oak and Star Tavern at Epic Universe's Celestial Park

If you’re able, head back to the hotel and enjoy the pool or take a nice nap. If you are not staying on Universal property, use this time to take a lunch break somewhere cool and shaded with air conditioning. Some of our favorite dining options include The Oak and Star Tavern, Toadstool Cafe, Mead Hall, Café L’air De La Sirène, and Das Stakehaus.

Smart Ways to Take a Break from the Sun

The Untrainable Dragon at Epic Universe's How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk

Staying cool is key during the summer months at Universal Epic Universe—and luckily, there are plenty of fun ways to do just that! If you’re looking for a quick break from the sun, consider catching one of the incredible shows in the park. The Untrainable Dragon located in How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk and Le Cirque Arcanus in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic each offer around 20 minutes of entertainment, shade, and refreshing air conditioning.

Already seen both shows? No problem! Head to a ride with a mostly indoor queue, giving you a cool escape while you wait. Great options include Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, and Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge.

“Cool” Things to Do When It’s Hot at Universal Epic Universe

Epic Universe has some unique activities to help keep you cool during some scorching days.

In Celestial Park, kids (and kids at heart) will love Astronomica, a splash pad perfect for beating the heat while having a blast.

Fyre Drill at Universal Epic Universe

Over in How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, Fyre Drill is an interactive boat ride that’s sure to leave you smiling—and soaked!

Craving something refreshing? Frosty Moon has delicious ice cream soft serve options that are sure to satisfy every sweet tooth. Right next door, Celestiki offers frozen cocktails that are perfect for guests 21 and up looking to chill out in style.

Inside, you’ll find one of the most detailed queues and unforgettable rides Universal has ever crafted. You’ll come face to face with some of the most fearsome monsters from Universal’s classic horror legacy on Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, brought to life in ways more chilling than ever before.

After conquering Monster’s Unchained, stop by The Burning Blade Tavern as the windmill swirls and catches fire from time to time (pro tip: listen for the bell tolling from the belltower—it’s your cue something’s about to ignite). Step inside this rustic haunt to grab a delicious bite and swap stories with Monster Hunters, who are always eager to recount their latest terrifying encounters.

As you wander through the shadowy streets of Darkmoor, keep a lookout for some of its residents. You might spot Ygor or catch a glimpse of the Invisible Man. Don’t be shy—say hello! These interactions are some of the most memorable (and legendary) you’ll find in the entire park.

Step back in time to the 1950s and 60s at Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort, where retro vibes meet modern comfort. This Value Inns and Suites hotel, located right on Universal Orlando Resort property, offers incredible perks for all ages and families of every size. From stunning amenities to unbeatable convenience, here are the top five benefits of staying at Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort.

1. Breathtaking Views

At first glance, you might not expect the rooms at Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort to offer amazing views—but prepare to be pleasantly surprised! Rooms in the Bayside or Beachside towers boast some of the best views on Universal Orlando Resort property, hands down. These sleek glass towers are positioned next to Universal Volcano Bay. From your room, you’ll be treated to a stunning panorama of the water park’s Krakatau volcano and the Orlando skyline. The slight upcharge for these rooms is well worth it—you’ll wake up to a view that feels like paradise!

2. Distance from the Parks

Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort is located on Universal Orlando Resort property, putting you just moments away from Universal CityWalk and its connected parks: Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. It is so close that there is even a walking trail to these attractions.  In just 15 to 20 minutes, you can stroll your way to Universal CityWalk, Universal Studios Florida, or Islands of Adventure.

Volcano Bay is only steps away from the resort, with less than a five-minute walk. Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort offers a complimentary bus transportation system that runs every 10 minutes or so, providing quick and easy access to CityWalk, Volcano Bay, and soon, the highly anticipated Epic Universe.

3. Galaxy Bowling: A Unique Cabana Bay Benefit

Located on the second floor of the lobby, Galaxy Bowl awaits! This isn’t just a bowling alley—it’s also a restaurant and bar, making it the perfect spot for food, drinks, and fun. It’s a great way to unwind after a long day at the parks with the family or have a retro date night with your loved one. Be sure to make a reservation for Galaxy Bowl in advance so you don’t miss out.

4. Relax by Cabana Bay’s Pools

It’s no exaggeration to say that Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort boasts some of the nicest and most fun pools on Universal Orlando Resort property. With not one but two large pools on either side of the resort, you’re never far from a refreshing swim.

But that’s not all—Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort also features a lazy river! This amenity is perfect for when you just want to unwind and enjoy the beautiful Florida weather. Tubes are available for purchase, so you can float your cares away during your stay.

5. Affordable Stays with Cabana Bay Benefits

You may think that staying at a nice resort on Universal property would cost a pretty penny, but that is far from the case at Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort. This destination is part of Universal’s Value Inns and Suites category, making it one of the most budget-friendly options for your Universal Orlando Resort vacation without sacrificing comfort or convenience.

Standard rooms, accommodating up to four guests, average around $200 per night. When I first visited Universal Orlando Resort, I missed out on so many opportunities that could have made my trip much smoother and more enjoyable. Now, as a seasoned park-goer, I’ve learned the ins and outs of navigating the parks like a pro. Whether it’s saving time, maximizing perks, or planning smarter, these Universal Orlando Resort tips will help you make the most of your visit!

Packing Tips for Universal Orlando Resort

One thing I’ve learned from frequent visits to Universal Orlando Resort is that anything can happen. It’s always better to pack a little heavier and be prepared than to go light and end up in an inconvenient situation. Sure, the obvious essentials like your phone, wallet, keys, and tickets are no-brainers—but what about the less obvious must-haves?

One item I never leave behind is a portable charging port. With phones and other devices draining fast from keeping up with attraction wait times and snapping countless memory-making photos, it’s a lifesaver.

Other essentials, like ponchos and an extra pair of socks, are handy for those fun water rides or if you run into a quick afternoon rain shower. A refillable water bottle is another must-have to help keep you hydrated and prevent you from having to purchase multiple water bottles throughout the day. And don’t forget sunscreen to protect yourself from the intense Florida sun!

Maximizing Universal Orlando Resort Hotel Benefits

Luggage Services at Universal Aventura Hotel
Luggage Services at Universal Aventura Hotel

Staying at a Universal Orlando Resort hotel offers more than just proximity to the parks—it’s packed with perks, including one I wish I had used on my first trip: luggage services. If you arrive early in the morning before your room is ready or need to check out but have a late flight, you do not have to drag your bags around all day. Each Universal Orlando Resort hotel has luggage services that will hold your belongings until you are ready to pick them up or check-in. This means you can enjoy the parks to the fullest, even on your arrival or departure day!

Water Taxi at Loews Sapphire Falls Resort
Water Taxi at Loews Sapphire Falls Resort

Universal Orlando Resort hotel properties also offer their own convenient transportation options and walking trails to the parks. The water taxis and walking trails even have separate security checkpoints, providing a quicker security experience compared to the main security lines.

These hotels typically include Early Park Admission to at least one of their theme parks, though this is subject to change. Be sure to check which parks offer this perk on the days of your visit. This benefit gives hotel guests exclusive first access to some of the most popular attractions before the general crowds arrive!

Using the Universal Orlando Resort App

The Universal Orlando Resort app is one of the best tools for making your day easier. With this app, you can check wait times for all attractions, view show schedules and meet-and-greet times, browse restaurant menus, and access much more. Be sure to check it periodically to help you plan the perfect experience!

Tips for the Best Times to Eat at Universal Orlando Resort

There truly is a strategy to timing your meals at Universal Orlando Resort. Restaurants and quick-service locations tend to fill up quickly during peak dining hours—between 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM for lunch and 5:30 PM and 7:30 PM for dinner. To avoid long lines, it’s best to plan your meals outside these times.

Mythos at Universal Islands of Adventure
Mythos at Universal’s Islands of Adventure

If you’d rather enjoy a full-service meal during these busy times, I highly suggest making a reservation whenever possible to ensure your party is accommodated. However, if your schedule is flexible, dining during off-peak hours can make for a much smoother and more enjoyable experience.

Best Times to Ride

Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure at Universal Islands of Adventure

Timing is also crucial when planning out your attractions at Universal Orlando Resort. On my first visit, I rushed straight to the most popular rides in the morning or jumped in line right before the park closed, only to find that many others had the same idea. Now, I’ve learned that some of the best times to jump in these queues are actually midday to around two hours before the park closes. This strategy helps you avoid the early morning or last-minute rush.

When planning a Walt Disney World Resort vacation, there’s a lot to get excited about: the rides, character meet and greets, spectacular shows, and fun photo opportunities. However, one aspect that shouldn’t be overlooked is the snacks! Walt Disney World Resort has some of the most unique and tasty snacks when it comes to theme parks and should not be something you miss out on while visiting.

Top Snacks to Try at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Park

Imagine entering Magic Kingdom Park, strolling down Main Street, U.S.A., gazing at Cinderella’s Castle, listening to the harmonies of the Dapper Dans in the background, and just then, your stomach starts to rumble. That can really take the magic away from any moment. But don’t just settle for anything! Magic Kingdom Park has so many fun and delicious snacks and treats to choose from.

Spring Rolls outside of Adventureland
Spring Rolls outside of Adventureland

One of my absolute favorites is located right outside of the Adventureland entrance in a little cart off to the side. They only carry one food item, but it’s so delicious that on busy days, the line can stretch farther than the eye can see. I’m, of course, talking about the spring roll cart. You can almost always bet they will have their famous cheeseburger spring rolls ready to go, but there’s typically another type of spring roll on offer — choices might include pizza, Reuben, buffalo chicken, and many others. Be sure not to miss this stand on your next visit.

Mickey Waffle with Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread, Bananas, and Berries from Sleepy Hollow
Mickey Waffle with Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread, Bananas, and Berries from Sleepy Hollow

Feeling a little more peckish than just a couple of spring rolls can handle? Sleepy Hollow in Liberty Square is set to satisfy! This quick service location serves famous Mickey waffles in many different varieties. If you are craving something on the savory side, check out the Mickey Waffle with Sweet-and-Spicy Maple Chicken. If you have a sweet tooth, the Mickey Waffle with Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread and Bananas is a decadent treat, while the Mickey Waffle with Berries and Cream is sure to make anyone happy. Sleepy Hollow is also available for mobile orders, so be sure to utilize it to skip that line.

DOLE Whip from Aloha Isle
DOLE Whip from Aloha Isle

Looking for a tasty treat to cool you down on a hot Florida day? Head over to Aloha Isle behind The Magic Carpets of Aladdin in Adventureland. This little spot has some of the best tropical desserts in all the parks. Whether you go with something like the Tropical Serenade or a cup of good old-fashioned pineapple DOLE Whip, you will not walk away disappointed.

Must-Try Treats at Walt Disney World’s EPCOT

It is incredible to be able to explore multiple different countries and their cuisines in the convenience of one park. EPCOT has so much to offer that it is hard to pick only a few snacks to highlight. So, I am going to touch on the snacks that are my absolute must-gets every time I go to the park.

Pepperoni Pizza from Pizza al Taglio
Pepperoni Pizza from Pizza al Taglio
Pizza al Taglio at EPCOT
Pizza al Taglio at EPCOT

Pizza is a common theme park food, but it can vary in quality. However, the pizza from Pizza al Taglio in the Italy pavilion is among the best you’ll find anywhere, not just in a theme park. That may sound like a bold claim, but it truly is exceptional. The crust is fluffy yet crispy on the outside, the sauce is rich and flavorful, and the cheese pull is simply out of this world. They offer margherita and pepperoni options by the slice, and the portions are quite generous. The service window is tucked away towards the back of the pavilion, right next to Via Napoli. With no posted operating hours, if you find it open, be sure to seize the opportunity and enjoy!

Karamell-Küche at EPCOT
Karamell-Küche at EPCOT
Butter Bar from Karamell-Küche
Butter Bar from Karamell-Küche

As you wander through the World Showcase and enter the Germany pavilion, you’ll be greeted by an overwhelming, sweet aroma that makes you wonder where it’s coming from. That amazing scent is fresh Werther’s caramel wafting from Karamell-Küche. This little shop has plenty of treats to choose from, and all of them are just as delicious as the next. One of the snacks they are most known for is the fresh Werther’s caramel popcorn they make daily. Karamell-Küche also offers delicious and well-themed caramel apples. But my go-to item is the Butter Bar. It’s a buttery shortbread bar generously infused with Werther’s caramel, and I can’t help but do a little happy dance with every bite. No matter which treat you choose, you’re sure to find yourself doing a happy dance of your own!

Snacking at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

While Disney’s Hollywood Studios is mostly known for their amazing rides and incredibly themed lands, their snack game is nothing to laugh about. Some of my absolute favorites are located here.

Pretzel from Pretzel Palooza
Pretzel from Pretzel Palooza
Pretzel Palooza at Disney's Hollywood Studios
Pretzel Palooza at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

If you find yourself needing a snack while walking down Sunset Boulevard, head towards Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, and you’ll find a little cart called Pretzel Palooza. Now, by all means, you can snag a Mickey pretzel if you really want one, but the best pretzels are the ones that are stuffed! Choose between cream cheese and (my personal favorite) cheddar and jalapeño. These stuffed pretzels are so delicious and very filling for under $10. Everyone in your party will be sure to enjoy!

Now we’re heading to a galaxy far, far away on a planet called Batuu for our next must-have snack. The Ronto Wrap can be found at Ronto Roasters in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and is perfect for when you need something with a little more substance. The sausage has a nice snap to it, and the slaw on top is a perfect complement. If you find yourself craving a Ronto Wrap after 3 PM when this dining location closes, have no fear! You can still enjoy a Ronto Wrap at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo instead. Both of these locations have a mobile order option, so don’t miss out on skipping the line.

Have a hankering for a delicious chocolate chip cookie? Well, you’re in luck because Disney’s Hollywood Studios has one of the best. Located at the Market stand near Toy Story Land, Jack-Jack’s Num Num Cookie is a giant, delectable treat that’s sure to put a smile on anyone’s face. Just be sure to grab some napkins— they do not hold back on the chocolate chips!

Bites at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park

A day at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park is always a wild time! Between the immersive rides and the amazing shows, you’ll be sure to feel snackish at some point throughout your day.

Corn from Harambe Fruit Market
Corn from Harambe Fruit Market

One of the simplest yet delicious food items Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park offers is grilled corn on the cob at the Harambe Fruit Market. You can order it with or without the special African spices sprinkled on top. This snack is perfect for on-the-go use but not too heavy for a long park day.

While exploring the Asia section of the park, you’ll come across a stand called Mr. Kamal’s. They offer a few items that are ideal for sharing or enjoying solo. The chicken dumplings are tasty, but the seasoned fries are truly top-notch. They also serve these with a sriracha mayonnaise dipping sauce that perfectly complements the fries.

One of the best and most unique bites can be found in Pandora – The World of Avatar, right next to Satu’li Canteen. At Pongu Pongu, they serve a snack called the Pongu Lumpia, which I personally adore. This large spring roll is filled with pineapple cream cheese and served warm. It offers a sweet yet slightly savory flavor that might not be for everyone, but I highly recommend giving it a try—you might find yourself pleasantly surprised!

Universal Orlando Resort is gearing up to debut DreamWorks Land at Universal Studios Florida on June 14. This addition will feature brand-new attractions, character meet and greets, delicious food offerings, and so much more. To fully immerse yourself in this enchanting experience, we recommend watching (or rewatching) a few key DreamWorks movies. Get ready to step into the stories and adventures that await.

DreamWorks Land at Universal Studios Florida

After you’ve enjoyed the DreamWorks classics, snag discounted tickets to Universal Orlando Resort, available through Orlando Informer. Don’t just watch the movies – visit DreamWorks Land and live them!

Trolls, Trolls Holiday, & Trolls: The Beat Goes On!

Trolls Trollercoaster at Universal Studios Florida
Trolls Trollercoaster at Universal Studios Florida
Trolls Trollercoaster at Universal Studios Florida
Trolls Trollercoaster at Universal Studios Florida

The story of Poppy, Branch, and all their friends come to life in this new land. We recommend watching the first movie of the Trolls franchise to get acquainted with the characters and the world of the Trolls. The initial film has expanded into three feature films, two holiday specials, and two animated series. While that may seem like a lot to tackle while also planning and packing for your Universal Orlando Resort vacation, we have two short watches to help you and your family get familiar with the Caterbus, the form of transport on the Trolls Trollercoaster.

The Caterbus is featured in Trolls Holiday, a 30-minute special that emphasizes the importance of celebrating special days, and in “Branch Bum,” an episode of Trolls: The Beat Goes On! where the trolls find themselves on a desert island.

Poppy’s Playground at Universal Studios Florida

Now that you have familiarized yourself with Pop Village, take a ride on the Trolls Trollercoaster Caterbus, just like some of our favorite trolls while outrunning a group of spiders. You’ll also be able to feel like a member of the Snack Pack by hanging out among the flowers and mushrooms in Poppy’s Playground and enjoying some delicious sweets at Trolls Treats.

Kung Fu Panda

Po’s Kung Fu Training Camp at Universal Studios Florida
Po’s Kung Fu Training Camp at Universal Studios Florida

Much like the Trolls franchise, this kung fu fighting panda has expanded into four films, three television series, and a holiday special. Don’t worry, though. We only recommend watching the initial film in the franchise, Kung Fu Panda. However, you’re welcome to enjoy the other three movies if you’d like some extra credit.

Step into the world of Po at Dreamworks Land and train to become a kung fu master at Po’s Kung Fu Training Camp, where you’ll be fully immersed in the vibrant Panda Village. Plus, don’t miss your chance to meet the legendary Dragon Warrior himself at Po Live! Learn some kung fu wisdom directly from Po, and maybe catch a few of his cooking and babysitting tips too. Get ready to unleash your inner warrior – make sure your kung fu skills are sharp and ready for action!

Shrek & Shrek 2

Shrek’s Swamp Meet at Universal Studios Florida
Shrek’s Swamp Meet at Universal Studios Florida

This franchise is a beloved DreamWorks classic, filled with lovable (and occasionally mischievous) characters like Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey, Puss in Boots, and many more. In DreamWorks Land, you can step directly into Shrek’s swamp straight out of the first movie. Get ready for an encounter with the famous ogres themselves and their charming sidekick, Donkey, who might just treat you to some of his legendary waffles nearby at Swamp Snacks.

King Harold’s Swamp Symphony at Universal Studios Florida

Guests will also be able to hang out with Princess Fiona’s father, who we met in Shrek 2 as the ruler of Far Far Away. He will appear in frog form in King Harold’s Swamp Symphony along with some of his musical amphibian friends. Hopefully, the Fairy Godmother is nowhere in sight!

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish

Mama Luna Feline Fiesta at Universal Studios Florida

After the famous Puss in Boots lost his eighth out of nine lives, he decided it was time to retire his dangerous ways. He headed to Mama Luna’s to live his final life in peace and free of any threats that may harm him, accompanied by many other feline acquaintances. Guests will be able to interact with Puss’s fellow housemates at Mama Luna’s Feline Fiesta and may also catch a glimpse of the notorious swashbuckling feline himself.

Gabby’s Dollhouse

High Five Hideaway at Universal Studios Florida
High Five Hideaway at Universal Studios Florida

While not exactly a movie, Gabby and her friends are set to play a starring role in DreamWorks Land. This show, popular among younger dreamers, is sure to capture your heart. Available on Netflix, Gabby’s Dollhouse follows Gabby and her adventures inside her dollhouse, along with the tales of the feline residents. When you visit, you might even have the chance to meet Gabby herself at DreamWorks Character Zone or pick up some themed apparel and accessories at High Five Hideaway.

Overview

In the heart of Central Florida lies a sanctuary that is an animal lover’s dream. Discovery Cove is an experience like no other as it combines a tropical paradise and up-close interactions with its residents. Encounter the wonder of Discover Cove with discounted admission through Orlando Informer!

Embarking on a journey to interact with the enchanting world of aquatic and feathery friends is an adventure, and Discovery Cove has some of the absolute best animal encounters to exist in the central Florida area. Something is available for all types of explorers, and we are here to break down the perfect day for any animal enthusiast.

Have your admission ready to go before you start your journey, which can be acquired through Orlando Informer at a discounted rate here.

Playing with Dolphins

The number one experience Discovery Cove offers is its famous one-on-one dolphin encounter. Visitors have the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the water and engage directly with these majestic sea mammals under the guidance of an expert animal care specialist. Throughout this interactive experience, the specialist will share insights into the dolphins’ habits and behaviors, enriching the encounter with educational value.

Each individual will then have the chance to personally interact with these marine mammals. If you are lucky, you may even receive a kiss from one of the dolphins!

This encounter is an add-on that can be purchased with admission at a discounted rate on our website here.

Making Feathered Friends

After the incredible dolphin encounter, head to Serenity Bay and dive into the Wind-Away River. You will be whisked into a breathtaking aviary where you can exit the relaxing current and interact with countless species of tropical birds. Watch them soar from a distance or grab a cup of fruit to feed these stunning, colorful avians. No matter which way you “fly,” you are sure to be “tweeting” with joy from your aviary visit!

Get Up Close to Otters and Primates

Once you finish greeting beautiful tropical birds, head back into Wind-Away River and enter the Freshwater Oasis. Here, you can swim right next to some curious and fun otters as they play. View them above and below the water through the glass to feel absorbed in their habitat. Be sure to look up to try to get a glimpse at the marmosets frolicking in the trees above the otters.

Snorkeling among Rays and Tropical fish

One of Discovery Cove’s most immersive adventures is swimming in The Grand Reef. Grab some snorkeling gear, which is included with your admission, and jump into this coral oasis. Explore alongside thousands of tropical fish and varieties of rays, like Cownose and Southern Rays. Venturing further into the reef, you will see reef sharks swimming safely behind glass so you can gaze at these incredible predators.

Want to get even closer to the animals in the Grand Reef? Check out the SeaVenture and Ray Feeding upgrades, allowing you to get even more engaged in this amazing habitat.

Swimming with Sharks

Speaking of swimming with these sharp-toothed creatures, Discovery Cove provides the opportunity to do so! Grab your bravest fellow adventurers and come face to face with many different types of sharks. You will see species such as Nurse, Blacktip Reef, Bonnethead, and Zebra Sharks. This encounter is considered an upgrade on top of your admission ticket, with prices starting at around $169 per person.

Be sure to check in advance if this upgrade is available on the day of your visit as capacity is extremely limited for this experience.

Meeting Unique Birds and Mammals

Want to get an even closer look at some interesting critters? The Animal Trek upgrade has you covered! This experience takes guests on a 30-minute tour to engage with multiple types of birds, such as macaws and screech owls. You will also meet some very special Discovery Cove Animal Ambassadors, like their sloth, armadillo, kinkajou, or anteater. Spots are limited, and prices start at $89 per person.

The VIP Animal Experience

Ready for the ULTIMATE animal lover’s experience? The Trainer for a Day upgrade is just that! You and your group will have a second and enhanced interaction with dolphins, meet-and-greet with tropical birds and unique mammals, feed fish in The Grand Reef, hang out with otters in the Freshwater Oasis, and many other behind-the-scenes experiences during this incredible VIP tour. This package is perfect for the biggest animal lover in your life, with prices starting at $199 per person.

During your Universal Orlando Resort vacation, you might find yourself immersed in the excitement and forget to make dining reservations, or perhaps you’re simply seeking something quick and convenient to allow more time for park enjoyment. Fortunately, choosing quick and accessible options doesn’t mean you’ll miss out on exciting and delectable choices!

Universal Studios Florida boasts a variety of outstanding, delicious, and fast quick-service choices to satisfy any craving on the go. Below are some of our favorite spots to check out during your visit!

The Fountain of Fair Fortune

The Fountain of Fair Fortune at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley
The Fountain of Fair Fortune at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley

The moment you walk through the opening brick wall into Diagon Alley, the magic instantly washes over, and you become fully immersed in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Between the sights, sounds, and spells, it is easy to forget you are not actually in London.

One of the top tasks usually on the list is to grab one of the famous frozen, cold, or hot Butterbeers.  Most muggles gravitate toward the first Butterbeer vendor they encounter. This is frequently The Hopping Pot, conveniently situated to the right of the entrance, just behind Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes. Given its prime location, The Hopping Pot often attracts a lively crowd, especially at peak times.

A more efficient strategy is to venture down the alley towards Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts and look for The Fountain of Fair Fortune to the right of Florean Fortescue’s Ice-Cream Parlour. This lesser-frequented quick service spot offers Butterbeer in all variations, along with Wizarding World-specific beers and other non-alcoholic beverages, usually with shorter wait times as it is more hidden from the main thoroughfare.

Chez Alcatraz

Looking for a delicious and refreshing cocktail to enjoy while strolling the park? Head straight to Fisherman’s Wharf, located in the San Francisco area by the exit of Fast and Furious – Supercharged. This quick-service bar has an excellent variety of specialty drinks and cold beer, which may be served in a fun way (like the Ocean Attack). Once you’ve got your drinks, snap a picture with the great white shark hanging just steps away!

Central Park Crepes

Crepe at Central Park Crepes

This charming crepe stand is a haven for foodies, offering a delectable array of fresh, mouth-watering crepes that promise to tantalize your taste buds. Catering to all preferences, the stand boasts an extensive menu that spans from savory to sweet, ensuring a perfectly crafted crepe for everyone in your group. A rotating seasonal crepe also makes its appearance on the menu to offer a unique taste with every visit.

These crepes are not only a treat to the palate but are also crafted for sharing, making them the perfect, hearty snack to enjoy with friends and family. Located right outside Central Park near Cafe la Bamba, don’t miss this crepe stand on your next trip.

Bumblebee Man’s Taco Truck

Bumblebee Man’s Taco Truck at Universal Studios Florida

Have a hankering for some tacos? The Bumblebee Man’s Taco Truck, nestled in the heart of Springfield, U.S.A.: Home of the Simpsons, arguably serves the best tacos you’ll find at Universal Orlando Resort. Although the menu is compact, it’s packed with incredibly bold and mighty flavors. Diners can choose between chicken, beef, and pork tacos topped with onions and cilantro on a flour tortilla. Paired with a side of chips and salsa, they are perfect to share or keep for yourself (I know I would).

Once you’ve secured your tacos, head behind the truck to find one of the best places to sit and eat, providing amazing views of the park’s lagoon.

Illumination’s Minion Café

Illumination’s Minion Café at Universal Studios Florida

Illumination’s Minion Café, a recent addition to Universal Studios Florida, quickly ranks among my top quick-service choices. Situated in Illumination’s Minion Land, near the park’s entrance, this restaurant offers ample seating spread across three spacious and delightfully themed rooms. The decor is utterly charming, bringing to life the whimsical world of the Minions as they engage in their signature antics of chaos and mayhem.

PX-41 Punch at Illumination's Minion Cafe

For added convenience, all orders are placed through the Universal Orlando Resort app, with your selections delivered directly to your table. The menu features a diverse range of entree options, from noodle bowls to sandwiches, complemented by specialty beverages and desserts. The quality is superb, promising a dining experience that leaves every member of your group completely satisfied.

Don’t have time to sit inside and eat? No worries! Illumination’s Minion Café offers mobile ordering to its pick-up window, which can be found just outside of this location.

Universal Studios Florida Quick Service Honorable Mentions

San Francisco Pastry Company at Universal Studios Florida

TODAY Cafe at Universal Studios Florida

While a few spots didn’t make the top rankings, they certainly deserve an honorable mention for their exceptional offerings.

The San Francisco Pastry Company serves an impressive selection of sandwiches, salads, soups, and desserts. Each option is exquisitely decadent and crafted to gratify your hunger.

Similarly, TODAY Cafe stands out as an excellent quick-service choice. It’s renowned for some fantastic breakfast sandwiches, making it a must-visit for early risers looking for a delicious start to their day.

SeaWorld Orlando prides itself on having a fantastic roller coaster lineup, and they should be proud of their current and growing collection. Mako, Manta, and Pipeline: The Surf Coaster are just a few of the thrill rides offered, with a brand new coaster, Penguin Trek, expected to open this Spring.

But what if roller coasters aren’t your thing, or you have a family with little ones who are not quite ready for these intense thrills? No need to worry! SeaWorld Orlando has plenty of activities available for guests of all ages.

Looking for a day filled with educational entertainment? Consider the Ultimate VIP Tour that allows you to customize your itinerary for a personalized experience!

Aquariums & Habitats

Manta Aquarium at SeaWorld Orlando
Manta Aquarium at SeaWorld Orlando

There are over 15 different habitats around SeaWorld Orlando for guests to observe and enjoy. They are easy to access and boast an abundance of viewing areas, ensuring everyone gets a front-row seat to the mesmerizing marine wonders. Some of these habitats are strategically located alongside major attractions. So, if part of your group wants to ride a coaster, but some do not, there is something nearby for them to check out.

For example, Shark Encounter is just steps away from Mako, while the Manta Aquarium perfectly complements (you guessed it) Manta. Other aquariums and habitats include Pacific Point Preserve, SeaWorld Rescue Center, Wild Arctic, Flamingo Cove, and one of my personal favorites, the Dolphin Nursery. There is something for everyone!

Events & Concerts

Halloween Spooktacular at SeaWorld Orlando
Halloween Spooktacular at SeaWorld Orlando

SeaWorld Orlando is always ready for a celebration, offering something exciting and festive throughout almost the entire year.

The park is kicking off 2024 with one of its first events – Seven Seas Food Festival. This event offers cuisine from around the world and live performances that you won’t want to miss! During the summer, check out Bands, Brews & BBQ – a celebration that brings together the perfect trio: fantastic music, flavorful brews, and mouthwatering barbecue. Enjoy live concerts on selected dates throughout the event, all included in the price of admission.

One of SeaWorld’s most anticipated events of the year is Howl-O-Scream. This scary, separately-ticketed event is not for the faint of heart. Brave the mazes and scare zones, and check out some great food! If the intensity of Howl-O-Scream isn’t your speed, or you are looking for a more lighthearted autumnal event for little ones, be sure to check out Halloween Spooktacular during normal hours for some family-friendly fun. The best part is that Halloween Spooktacular is included with daytime admission

At the end of the year, the Christmas Celebration is one not to miss; with its festive foods and jolly shows, everyone will have a blast. Discover what’s happening during your stay by checking our full event listing here and ensure you don’t miss any exciting experiences awaiting you!

Sesame Street Land

Sesame Street Land at SeaWorld Orlando

Grab the family and head over to where the air is sweet – Sesame Street Land! This area pays homage to the neighborhood that has entertained and educated generations. There are plenty of kid-friendly attractions, such as Elmo’s Choo Choo Train, Sunny Day Carousel, and Abby’s Flower Tower. Families can also join in The Sesame Street Party Parade or meet with the fan-favorite residents of Sesame Street.

As you can see, SeaWorld Orlando has a plethora of exciting activities to enjoy beyond the thrill rides. The park offers a diverse range of experiences that cater to every taste, ensuring a memorable time for everyone in the family!

As the temperatures drop, festive tunes fill the air, and decorations adorn every corner – the holidays are officially here! And when it comes to decking the halls, Universal Orlando Resort doesn’t just participate; it steals the show! From the coziness of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter to their original festive character, Earl the Squirrel, greeting all of his new friends, they have truly outdone themselves.

One of the more unique ways Universal Orlando celebrates the holidays this season is by paying homage to theme park attractions of the past through Christmas ornaments. They are hung amongst the many decorations, and our team was able to spot some of these discreet surprises to share with you!

Dueling Dragons

Islands of Adventure, Islands of Adventure Trading Company

Once upon a time, before Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure and even before The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the fire and ice dragons were in a constant struggle with one another, and riders were thrown right in the middle of it on dueling tracks. While it was sad to see this opening day attraction go, it made way for arguably one of the greatest rides to date.

Universal Orlando Resort decided not only to give Dueling Dragons its own Halloween Horror Nights house in 2023 but also to celebrate it this holiday season. The fire and ice dragon ornaments can be found on the tinsel surrounding the Islands of Adventure Trading Company.

Poseidon’s Fury

Islands of Adventure, DeFoto’s Expedition Photography

The echoes of the recently-retired walk-through attraction still reverberate this Yuletide. Those who dared step into the colossal temple would find themselves in the heart of a clash of titans. The pivotal role of Poseidon’s trident in the epic battle against Lord Darkenon is commemorated in its miniature ornament version – make sure to check it out at DeFoto’s Expedition Photography.

The Eighth Voyage of Sinbad

Islands of Adventure, DeFoto’s Expedition Photography

While searching for Poseidon’s trident at Defoto’s Expedition Photography, be on the lookout for Sinbad’s swords! This action-packed stunt show took place in the Lost Continent and showcased our hero, Sinbad, and his sidekick, Kabob, hunting for treasure hidden in a cave. Even though the show’s 19-year run ended in 2018, the legend still lives on.

Terminator 2 3D

Universal Studios Florida, The Bourne Stuntacular

The Terminator famously stated he would be back, but we didn’t expect it to be in this fashion. Terminator 2 3D combined live-action stunts with 3D film and ultimately closed in 2017. Head over to The Bourne Stuntacular, the show that replaced the vacancy left by Terminator 2 3D, to spot the famous silver skull with red eyes hidden in a wreath.

Lucy: A Tribute

Universal Studios Florida, The Brown Derby

Before the combined UNIVRS store and Hello Kitty shop, there was Lucy: A Tribute. This little exhibit that closed in 2015 showcased many artifacts from Lucille Ball’s life and awards given to The Lucy Show and I Love Lucy. Keep your eyes peeled for the famous Vitameatavegamin bottle ornament on the Brown Derby Hat Shop in the Hollywood section of the park.

Fievel’s Playland

Universal Studios Florida, The Kitty Cat Club

Earlier this year, Fievel’s Playland closed for good to make way for the new Dreamworks Animation land coming soon to Universal Studios Florida. Fievel can be spotted amongst the decorations around The Kitty Kat Club.

Hercules & Xena: Wizards of the Screen

Universal Studios Florida, Mel’s Drive-In

This closed attraction goes pretty far back into the theme park archives. This show, a relic from 1997 to 2000, didn’t just entertain – it threw viewers right into the heart of the movie. Where this classic production once captivated audiences, Transformers: The Ride – 3D now reigns supreme. Swing by Mel’s Drive-In for a tiny treasure keeping the nostalgia alive.

Back to the Future: The Ride

Universal Studios Florida, Central Park

Before handing the reins to The Simpsons, this attraction had an impressive run between 1991 and 2007. Spot the famous DeLorean hanging from the East Green sign in Central Park.

Alfred Hitchcock: The Art of Making Movies

Universal Studios Florida, Universal Orlando’s Horror Make-Up Show

This fusion of 3D film and live performance opened alongside Universal Studios Florida in 1990. Alfred Hitchcock: The Art of Making Movies commemorated the 40+ year history Alfred Hitchcock had with Universal Studios before closing in 2003 to make way for Shrek 4-D (RIP to this attraction). The ornament paying tribute to this retired attraction can be seen outside of Universal Orlando’s Horror Make-Up Show.

Dynamite Nights Stunt Spectacular

Universal Studios Florida, Starbucks

Speaking of opening day attractions, Dynamite Nights Stunt Spectacular is another remembered in ornament form. This Miami Vice-inspired stunt show took place from 1990 to 2000 on the Universal Studios Florida Lagoon and was packed with tricks performed by live actors and pyrotechnics. Head over to Starbucks to find the glittery jet ski hiding in the tinsel.

JAWS

Universal Studios Florida, Starbucks

While checking out the Dynamite Nights Stunt Spectacular ornament, keep those eyes peeled for Bruce donning a Santa hat. Back in the day, JAWS, an opening day attraction, held its ground until 2012 when it made way for Diagon Alley. This boat ride around Amity Island would have thrill-seekers face-to-face with the legendary great white beast.

Kongfrontation

Universal Studios Florida, Sahara Traders

Before there was Skull Island: Reign of Kong at Islands of Adventure, there was the ever-popular opening day attraction Kongfrontation. Riders followed along on Kong’s path of destruction until Revenge of the Mummy took over in 2002. This incredible ape can be found on the corner of Sahara Traders.

Twister: Ride It Out

Universal Studios Florida, Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon

This extreme experience plunged participants into the blockbuster movie Twister, unveiling the special effects that brought this film to life. Intense winds and flying farm animals were just a glimpse into what this wild attraction offered. The tribute ornament for Twister: Ride It Out can be found outside of Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon, which is where this thrilling experience once stood.

Curious George

Universal Studios Florida, Metropolis

In 2001, Curious George stole the spotlight as a giant balloon at Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. This moment is referenced in the metropolis façade, a nod to the whimsical presence of everyone’s favorite curious little monkey.

Ghostbusters Spooktacular

Universal Studios Florida, New York Firehouse

The Ghostbusters franchise has been part of the tapestry of Universal Studios Florida since its early days. With a dedicated attraction, HHN house, merchandise, and more, it would only make sense for a slimy homage by the New York firehouse.

The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera

Universal Studios Florida, Music Plaza

The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera had riders joining forces with Yogi Bear and Boo-Boo on a quest to save Elroy Jetson in this adventure that delighted guests until 2002. You can find a reminder of this journey at the Universal Music Plaza kiosk across from the Super Silly Stuff store.

Planning a trip to Universal Orlando Resort is a very exciting and fun experience, but it can also be a little stressful and sometimes overwhelming when it comes to managing your budget. The typical travel expenses can add up very fast, but with enough research and preparation, you can keep vacation costs in check while enjoying a relaxing getaway.

Determining the Total Budget

Whether planning a fun-filled family adventure, a romantic escape for two, or a thrilling solo trip, one thing remains vital – nailing down that grand total budget. It all starts with making a list of the essential components to create your dream vacation: travel, lodging, park tickets, food, and souvenirs. Determine how much you are willing to spend within each category and add all these amounts together to find your total budget for your Universal Orlando visit. With this in place, it is time to figure out how to stay within your financial blueprint.

Travel

Flying to Orlando or hitting the road, travel costs can quickly consume a huge chunk of your vacation spending plan. To get the most bang for your buck, decide how you want to arrive. If you choose to travel by plane, begin researching airfare from your closest airport to Orlando International Airport (MCO), the closest airport to Universal Orlando Resort. If the airline tickets land within your budget, awesome! Snag them and cross that off your list. If it doesn’t, do not fear.

Try going to Google Flights and plugging in MCO as your destination, the travel dates, and how many tickets are needed. Then, click on “Track Prices” to be notified whenever the cost of the plane tickets has changed. If you are flexible with your travel dates and are not particularly picky about the airline you fly, hundreds can be saved in this component. For instance, a typical ticket on American Airlines to MCO can average around $275 per person, while the average flight on Spirit Airlines can average around $125 per person for the same dates.

Once you have made it to MCO, you will now need a way to get to your lodging destination. This can be an expense most people forget to prepare for. If you are staying at a Universal Orlando Resort hotel, we recommend checking out the Super Star Shuttle, the resort’s transportation from MCO. This service must be booked at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled flight time and costs $39 per person above 10 years old and $36 per child ages 3-9.

Alternative options for airport transport are cabs and ride-share services. A ride-share service, like Uber or Lyft, from MCO to the Universal Orlando Resort area is usually about $30 for the cheapest option.

Driving to Universal Orlando can also be a cost-efficient choice, depending on where you are coming from. Opting for a road trip involves additional cost factors, like hotel parking fees. Many Orlando hotels offer convenient parking options for a small additional cost, so be sure to research whether your chosen accommodation includes this service.

Lodging

Thankfully, Orlando does not have a shortage of places to stay while on vacation. In fact, Universal Orlando Resort has eight different hotel options for any budget. They range from Value Hotels, such as the Endless Summer Resorts, to Premier Hotels, like Hard Rock Hotel.

Pricing equates to their amount of amenities and comfort. There is a hotel option for any budget on Universal property. The Endless Summer Resorts start at about $96 a night, while Hard Rock Hotel begins at $372 per night. Each accommodation provides complimentary transportation to the theme parks and Universal CityWalk. Some hotels have water taxis in addition to free shuttles and beautiful walking paths that have their own security lines. These are usually less crowded than the main security hub outside of CityWalk, allowing less time spent going through security and more time knocking out some of your must-do attractions. It’s important to note that the Universal Endless Summer Resort hotels do not have walking path access but still benefit from quick and easy bus transportation.

If you decide to stay outside of Universal Property, there are plenty of accommodations in the surrounding area. When choosing this option, you may be faced with adding transportation costs to your budget. Not all off-site hotels have free transportation to CityWalk and the theme parks like Universal Orlando properties do. This may cause you to depend on ride-share services or renting a car to get around.

Park Tickets

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit at Universal Studios Florida

Fortunately for your wallet, Orlando Informer offers a variety of discounted tickets to fit any vacationer’s plans. Purchasing through your pals at Orlando Informer can save you up to $63.37 over gate prices, meaning more cash to allocate to some delicious park snacks or sweet keepsakes. And if you are eager to minimize wait times during your Universal visit, we also have Universal Express Passes available at a lower rate, ensuring you make the most of your visit without the hassle of lines! Check out all of the possible savings here.

Food

Otto's Noodle Bowl from Illumination's Minion Cafe

Quickly after you arrive to Universal, you’ll find an array of dining choices and be faced with the delicious dilemma of what to eat that stays within your spending plan. This can especially be true if Universal Orlando is currently in the middle of one of their festivities. Events such as Mardi Gras and the Holidays at Universal offer a variety of limited-time food options to celebrate these occasions. If you are a foodie who wants to try everything, this can add up quickly. Research in advance what dishes you absolutely want to try and would be bummed leaving your vacation without doing so. This could be a crêpe at Central Park Crepes in Universal Studios, a burger from Wimpy’s in Islands of Adventure, or a specialty treat from Voodoo Doughnut in CityWalk.

Once you have made your list of “must tries,” factor in the prices of these items into your food budget. Those items listed above are all from quick-service food locations and tend to be lower-cost options. You can plan to spend about $15 to $20 per person in this case. Also check out our article on “Bang for Your Buck” Snacks for some great budget-friendly choices!

Another tactic? Bring your own snacks and drinks with you. While Universal won’t permit coolers or full meals to be brought into the parks, having a lunch box of snacks and a refillable water bottle can save you some serious dough throughout the day. Please check the park rules for acceptable containers and food items as you pack your bag for your day.

Prefer to savor and take time to enjoy your meals? Universal Orlando has many delicious, full-service dining establishments to check out. Lombard’s Seafood Grille, Mythos Restaurant, Antojitos Authentic Mexican Food, and The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen are popular and fantastic options on Universal property. Be prepared to spend about $50 per person dining at these restaurants.

Souvenirs

Dervish and Banges in Hogsmeade

Be it a funny Minions sweatshirt, a precious E.T. plush, or your favorite Harry Potter character’s wand, you’ll want to be leaving your Universal Orlando vacation with some sort of memento. What better way to remember your trip than with a piece of Universal to bring home?

Similar to the food situation, you may find yourself overwhelmed with options. One pro tip is to purchase a Universal gift card to allocate your souvenir spending. You can get these ahead of time at a local grocery store or purchase a pre-loaded Visa card to achieve the same purpose. Once the gift card is used up, you know not to purchase any more merchandise. This strategy is also sometimes a lifesaver for parents, who can dole out pre-loaded gift cards to their children and help them determine their wants and purchases.

As you can see, there is a Universal Orlando trip to suit nearly every wallet size. Let’s not forget that regardless of your financial plan, you are sure to have an unforgettable time during your Universal Orlando Resort vacation!

Overview

Florida's nickname, "The Sunshine State," is well-deserved as the state enjoys abundant sun, despite the occasional increase in temperatures and humidity levels. Don’t let this get in the way of an unforgettable vacation! Use our tips below to stay cool and safe while having fun!

Summer sun has officially arrived in Central Florida! However, this should not deter anyone from coming out and enjoying a fantastic Universal Orlando Resort vacation. With these tips, you will surely beat the rising temperatures this summer!

Utilize Early Park Admission

One of the many perks that come with staying at a Universal Orlando Resort hotel is the access to early park admission. Hotel guests and select passholders have the ability to enter some of the parks up to an hour before they are open to the public on select dates. Taking advantage of this perk gives you time in the parks before temperatures start to get toasty.  Grab your admission to pair with your Universal Orlando Resort hotel stay perks, and be sure to check which parks will be open for early park admission in advance to help plan your trip accordingly.

Catch an Indoor Show

The Bourne Stuntacular at Universal Studios Florida

Need a quick break from the sun but don’t want to miss out on any of the action? Delight in one of Universal’s indoor shows! The Bourne Stuntacular and Universal Orlando’s Horror Make-Up Show allow you to be thoroughly entertained while also having a seat and enjoying some much-needed AC. Use the Universal Orlando Resort app to check when the next show starts.

Hit Up the Indoor and Water Rides

Jurassic Park River Adventure at Islands of Adventure

At Universal Orlando Resort, there are plenty of rides that offer both excitement and relief from the heat. Jurassic Park River Adventure, Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls, and Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges at Islands of Adventure are three spectacular water rides that can cool you down in a jiffy!

Don’t feel like getting drenched? No need to worry! There are a multitude of indoor ride options to escape from the sun. These include, but are not limited to, Revenge of the Mummy, E.T. Adventure, Men in Back Alien Attack, Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man, and so many more!

Enjoy a Butterbeer Ice Cream

Butterbeer Ice Cream at Universal Studios Florida

There’s nothing like a frosty treat to help cool you down on a summer afternoon! Florean Fortescue’s Ice-Cream Parlour located in Diagon Alley serves up some of the best sweets on Universal Orlando property. Flavors range from your standard Vanilla and Chocolate to some intriguing and delicious varieties such as Earl Grey & Lavender and Strawberry & Peanut Butter. Among all the flavors available in the Wizarding World, we believe that none can rival the delicious taste of Butterbeer! Grab a scoop in a waffle cone or cup and enjoy!

Cool off in Knockturn Alley

Once you have grabbed your Butterbeer ice cream from Florean Fortescue’s Ice-Cream Parlour, head over to the entrance of Knockturn Alley. This hidden section of Diagon Alley is completely shaded and is a fantastic place for any witch and wizard to escape from the elements. While in Knockturn Alley, get some shopping done in Borgin and Burkes, or just grab a seat on one of the many benches.

Take a Midday Break

Taking a midday break from the parks is one of the most effective ways to avoid the sun and recharge for the rest of the day. Once it gets into the afternoon – otherwise known as the hottest part of the day, head back to your hotel for a bit and relax! Take a nap or sit in the shade by the pool. This can significantly benefit families with little ones.

Finnegan's Bar & Grill at Universal Studios Florida
Finnegan’s Bar & Grill at Universal Studios Florida

Not staying at a hotel near the parks? No problem! Take a break by dining at one of the many indoor, sit-down restaurants Universal Orlando Resort has to offer. Inside the parks, there are table service options like Mythos or Confisco Grille at Islands of Adventure and Finnegan’s Bar & Grill and Lombard’s Seafood Grille at Universal Studios. Universal CityWalk also has several great indoor dining options, such as Bigfire, Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen, and The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar. If you decide to dine at any of these restaurants, try to grab a reservation in advance, as they can get rather busy, especially around lunchtime.

Stay Hydrated

Coke Freestyle Machines at Islands of Adventure

While this tip may seem obvious, it is the most important. The Central Florida sun can easily cause heat exhaustion and dehydration if not careful. Be sure to drink water continuously throughout the day and seek out shade when possible.

Another great option is to bring your own refillable water bottle. Many Coke Freestyle machines spread across the parks and Universal CityWalk offer a free water option.

A great gadget to also bring from home is a portable fan. These can really come in handy on those days without a summer breeze.

Visit Volcano Bay

Universal’s Volcano Bay Water Theme Park
Universal’s Volcano Bay Water Theme Park

With its tropical setting, thrilling water rides, and relaxing beaches, add Volcano Bay to your itinerary to cool off and have hours of fun. We offer some hot deals on admission, so be sure to check them out here.

Volcano Bay features a variety of water slides, including the Ko’okiri Body Plunge, which is one of the tallest and steepest drop slides in the world. If you prefer a more relaxing experience, you can float down the Kopiko Wai Winding River, which meanders through the park’s lush landscape.

Volcano Bay offers several sandy beaches and a massive wave pool for those who want to embrace the sun and relax. Waturi Beach is the perfect spot to unwind and take in the beautiful surroundings. The park also features premium seating and private cabanas, where you can rest and recharge in between rides and attractions.

Don’t let the Central Florida summer sun dampen your vacation experience! By planning ahead and following these tips, you can stay cool and comfortable while enjoying all that Universal Orlando Resort has to offer.

It’s hard to believe we are rapidly approaching the one-year anniversary of Jurassic World VelociCoaster’s official opening. Since June 2021, a debate like no other has ensued among theme-park enthusiasts. For the better part of two years, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure was considered the de-facto best ride at Universal Orlando Resort (or even in the entire state of Florida) but it soon met its match. Crowds flocked to VelociCoaster, and many were quick to give it the title of the new best ride at Universal.

But what’s the answer? We break down each ride element here to get to the bottom of this!

VelociCoaster, Universal’s Islands of Adventure

Queue

There is no doubt that both attractions have some of the most immersive queues ever seen. The detail and finesse that went into each is impeccable, and the impact of walking through these experiences can’t be overlooked. As you pass under the archway that welcomes you to get in line for Hagrid’s, the hustle and bustle of Hogsmeade immediately quiets down and you become immersed into your Magical Creatures lesson. In this queue, you will pass Hagrid’s hut, see Fang, be able to touch the eggs of magical creatures, and so much more. It is as if you are walking the grounds of Hogwarts.

Of course, the VelociCoaster queue is just as impressive. If the intricate statue of the attraction in the first room does not blow you away, the rest of the experience will. As you enter deeper into the line, you will pass a set of windows where you are able to observe the coaster’s second launch and see the four raptors in close pursuit. Then comes the big moment. Perhaps the single most impressive thing in any of the parks is incredibly life-like velociraptors in containment in this queue. You can come face to face with the closest thing to real dinosaurs we have. It’s truly mind-blowing and has to be seen to be believed.

Both queues are nothing short of exceptional, but in this category, if one had to rein supreme it would have to be VelociCoaster.

Story Telling

Hagrid’s and VelociCoaster both have the luxury of coming from some of the strongest franchises in cinema history, and therefore they both have very specific and interesting storylines. While winding through the VelociCoaster queue, you find out that the Raptor Run is a brand-new experience at Jurassic World that brings everyday people closer to these predators than ever before. It is a chance to see how fast and incredible these creatures are. Right before hopping on the coaster, we find out that not everyone agrees with this new thrilling experience. Owen Grady makes it very clear he does not think this is such a bright idea, but Claire assures riders that it is completely safe and foolproof. Either way, the hunt is on!

The storyline to Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure exists in the title itself and presents in the queue in many ways. You get to see pictures of magical creatures and even hear from Hagrid and Mr. Weasley regarding the adventure we are about to embark on. However, most of the story takes place while you are actually riding the coaster! Hagrid speaks to you as you fly through the grounds of Hogwarts, coming across many magical creatures trying to find his missing Blast-Ended Skrewt.

In this category, Hagrid’s definitely exceeds in the story telling aspect of both coasters. While VelociCoaster’s story is compelling, it’s a cookie-cutter repeat of the foundational story that makes the franchise so successful: people think they can control dinosaurs, and things go wrong. Hagrid’s Adventure is just that – an exciting adventure that guests can enjoy, with unexpected twists and changes at every turn!

Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, Universal’s Islands of Adventure

Thrill

One thing is certain, neither of these coasters lack thrill in any way, shape, or form. Both coasters were manufactured by Intamin and therefore share some track elements. For example, both coasters begin with a speedy launch! Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure has seven total launches throughout the ride. This coaster also has a 17-foot drop track and goes backwards for a portion. If all that isn’t enough, the animatronics you pass along the way are incredibly impressive, from seeing a life-like recreation of Rubeus Hagrid to a full-sized Unicorn.

While Hagrid’s thrills are more varied and mild, VelociCoaster’s thrills are unmistakable and in-your-face. Although VelociCoaster has only two launches compared to Hagrid’s seven, these launches bring guests to speeds up to 70 mph in seconds. These speeds, paired with the 155-foot-tall top hat, and many inversions (including the famous “Mosasaurus Roll” at the end of the ride over the water) make this coaster the most thrilling and smooth experience at the parks.

Overall, both coasters have their own thrills, but the thrills of VelociCoaster are unmatched, so this attraction wins this round.

Rideability

Since these attractions are coasters, and therefore are strict on height and weight restrictions, not all will be able to ride. Many larger guests already struggle with finding accommodating attractions at Universal Orlando Resort, and if you’d like to read more about that topic, we recommend you look over our article here. Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure requires riding guests to be at least 48 inches tall, while the VelociCoaster requires guests to be 51 inches tall. Those who prefer to not go upside down should probably stray from the VelociCoaster completely, and those who do not enjoy going backwards may want to avoid Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure.

With the lower height requirement and the less intensity of the coaster, it is easy to say that Hagrid’s has a higher rideability than the VelociCoaster.

Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, Universal’s Islands of Adventure

So Which is the Best?

Overall, both of these coasters are absolutely incredible. The debate of which attraction is the best will keep on because it honestly all comes down purely to preference at the end of the day.

The fact of the matter is, if you’re judging these by which is the more intense coaster, VelociCoaster takes the cake. But Hagrid’s track incorporates so many difficult elements that its merit as a coaster can’t be overlooked. Hagrid’s also gets points for having a clearer storyline. VelociCoaster gets points by running efficiently and smoothly, but Hagrid’s earns some back by having essentially two ride experiences (via the motorbike vs the sidecar). VelociCoaster thrills with its speed and intensity. Hagrid’s delights with its enjoyability and fun factor. See how the debate fuels itself?

Guess we’ll just have to ride them again to make our final decision!

Which earns the title of best coaster, in your opinion? Be sure to follow Orlando Informer on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram for the latest news and tips for trips to Universal Orlando, Walt Disney World, and other Orlando parks.

As the more loyal, hardworking, fair, and patient witches and wizards of the Wizarding World, we Hufflepuffs tend to see life through our own yellow-colored glasses. We believe that the glass as half full, that there is always a silver lining, and know that there is nothing we would not do for the ones we love and care for. Hufflepuffs are a very special breed and there are many activities in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter that celebrates the attributes and characteristics that make us who we truly are.

The Hogwarts Express in Hogsmeade, Universal’s Islands of Adventure

Experiences for Hufflepuffs

The Hogwarts Express

What better way to start your Wizarding World adventure than with the famous train ride from London to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry? Although the train travels in both directions between parks, we recommend starting at Universal Studios Florida and making your way to Hogsmeade first to get the closest thing to truly arriving at Hogwarts. At Kings Cross in Universal Studios, you will get to wind through the station and even walk through the brick wall that leads to Platform 9 3/4. Once on the Hogwarts Express, you will be placed in a cabin with some other Hogwarts classmates (hopefully fellow Hufflepuffs) and make the short journey to Hogsmeade Village. You will get to see and hear many different encounters while riding; from the snack trolley passing by, to a drop in from our favorite characters, and maybe even a pass with a dementor.

Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey

While going through the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey queue, keep your eyes peeled for some special Hufflepuff memorabilia. You will walk through our Head of House’s greenhouse and see Professor Sprout’s growing mandrakes. Once you have entered the castle, be sure to look to the right and see the house points represented on the wall! Check out how many points our house has so far for the year. Then, enter into the grand staircase room and show honor to our house founder, Helga Hufflepuff. Her portrait will be on the walls along with the three other Hogwarts founders. You will also be able to come face to face with the Sorting Hat. While here, you might as well tell him “Thanks!” for placing you in the best house there is!

Frog Choir at Universal’s Islands of Adventure

The Frog Choir

After your adventure through Hogwarts, stop by the nearby stage to hear the Frog Choir sing some Wizarding World classics. Sing along and cheer for our performing Hufflepuffs or grab a Butterbeer and enjoy the sweet melodies. Either way, you will definitely enjoy this show.

Shopping for Hufflepuffs

Filch’s Emporium of Confiscated Goods

One of the best places to grab some Hufflepuff gear is located right next to Hogwarts Castle. Filch’s Emporium of Confiscated Goods has everything from crew neck sweatshirts to quality tumblers and useful tote bags to show off your Hufflepuff pride. Food and Drinks for Hufflepuffs

The Leaky Cauldron

It is safe to say that every Hufflepuff has a strong appetite. I mean, our common room in Hogwarts is located right by the kitchens. Coincidence? I think not. If you find yourself a bit peckish, The Leaky Cauldron in Diagon Alley is the perfect place to indulge. The menu includes sustaining dishes such as the Fish and Chips or their famous Cottage Pie. There is an option for everyone here, as the witches and wizards have even recently updated the menu to include vegan options. No matter what you choose to enjoy, you will not be disappointed. Of course, you can purchase Pumpkin Juice and all versions of Butterbeer at this fine establishment.

Hog’s Head

Fancy a Butterbeer, or even something a little stronger? The Hog’s Head bar, which is part of Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, serves up some of The Wizarding World’s best alcoholic (and nonalcoholic) beverages. It is the perfect place for us Hufflepuffs to fellowship and catch up with friends over a pint of Wizard’s Brew or a Fire Whisky cocktail. If you are interested in the bar, you usually do not have to enter through the primary Three Broomsticks doors. The doors to the Hog’s Head are usually open, and are located to the right of the Three Broomsticks entrance. There’s a covered area where you can also have a seat and enjoy your beverage. If you can’t seem to find the entrance, just ask a team member where you’re looking to go and they can point you in the right direction.

Honeydukes

After you’ve enjoyed your drink, you might find that it is time for dessert. Honeydukes in Hogsmeade is the perfect place to satisfy any sweet tooth. Grab a carton of Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans or some Exploding Bon Bons. Don’t forget about the renowned Chocolate Frogs! If you’re lucky, your Chocolate Frog may even contain a collectible Helga Hufflepuff trading card.
