Another invitation has arrived in my inbox: on Saturday, November 3, Portofino Bay Hotel will be hosting their very first food truck festival.

Okay, so this isn’t quite as exciting as getting the official announcement for Transformers: The Ride. Nevertheless, the event certainly has its own appeal. For those unfamiliar with the location, Portofino Bay Hotel is Universal’s flagship on-site resort property. Its buildings and layout mirror those of its namesake, Portofino Bay in the Italian Riviera, and its Harbor Piazza is one of the best settings anywhere in Orlando for an event.

In the email blast about the food truck festival, a PDF file was included stating the following details:

I’m quite excited for this invite. More to the point, I’m excited to visit SwedeDISH one more time. At the last food truck event we went to, I ordered the Thor and it was incredible.

Needless to say, if you are around Universal on Saturday, November 3, I definitely think you should go to this event. If this is your first time at a food truck gathering, here is the basic advice: First, get there early, because lines can get long fast and trucks may start to run out of food; second, you don’t have to worry about cash because all the trucks nowadays take credit cards; third, remember that this event is at Universal, so you will have to pay for parking whether you park at the hotel ($20 for “daily” guests) or park at Universal and take the water taxi over ($15). Now that I just wrote that about parking, I have to believe the hotel will offer a discount for event guests, but I don’t have any word on that yet.

Before I wrap up, I just wanted to add a couple of things that struck me as odd about this event. As far as I can remember, this is the first time one of Universal’s on-site hotels has hosted a public event that doesn’t require paid admission. Sure, the hotels have events all the time like Hard Rock’s Velvet Sessions (the last Velvet Sessions of the year is actually tonight, featuring Soul Asylum) and Portofino’s own Harbor Nights, but those events always require paid admission. Second, this is awfully short notice, which would suggest that the event was rather hastily put together.

These observations don’t mean anything, and I still think it will be a fabulous time. I just thought it was interesting.

Visit our Portofino Bay Hotel pages in the OI Universal Center to learn so much more about this hotel and view over 200 full-screen images of the property.

It was a great event, but I’ll let the photos speak for themselves. Here are two highlights, followed by our photo gallery from last night.
