(IMPORTANT) What's next for our community   03/24/2016

Today we're excited to announce the start of our new Facebook group: Universal Community by Orlando Informer. We're also announcing we're closing our forums. This is probably the hardest decision I've made so far with Orlando Informer. This week marks the 2nd anniversary of our forums. Monday will mark 2 years from when I first applied to work with Orlando Informer. I was entering a pool of over 50 applicants, didn't meet the requirements, and didn't think the odds were very high that I'd get the position of Forum Moderator. It never even crossed my mind that not only would I get the position, but that position and these forums would be the start of being able to do what I love as a fulltime job. At its core, our forums have always had two goals: A ) Help families receive specific answers to specific questions, feedback from folks who have been in their shoes, and help them maximize their investment into their vacation. B ) Build a community of people who love to visit Universal, with a foundation of respect and tolerance. I can speak for our entire team on our forums (both past and present), especially our Community Manager @Chuck Plagmann, when I say that we have devoted hours of time every day of the year working towards these two goals. We feel that we've made major strides towards both of our goals, but see the opportunity to help a significantly greater amount of people plan their vacation and add on to our established (and amazing) community. Unfortunately, as time goes on, forums like ours have a tendency to slow down and be replaced by social media. It's the cycle of life for forums. We believe that this Facebook group is the logical next step for our community. Our forums and the content within will remain browseable for the foreseeable future, however you will not be able to submit new content. Our Facebook group, Universal Community by Orlando Informer, will be curated by our same team that ran the OI Forums. @Chuck Plagmann and I will be on the group daily to provide insight and help families plan their vacation. @debi will be monitoring for any Special Needs questions. Our (very talented) authors, like @Marc N. Kleinhenz, will be on the group to talk about their latest articles and your feedback. Finally, @Park Beast will even be dropping by from time to time to talk about our weekly podcast. You can access our Facebook group by searching "Universal Community by Orlando Informer" or visiting UOR.community from any webbrowser. We know this is a substantial change from our forums, but are hopeful you'll be willing to give it a shot. Additionally, we're launching a Facebook group for Universal Hollywood: "Universal Community by California Informer" or visit USH.community. This is the end of the forums, but it is just the beginning of our community. One thing we consistently hear from members of our forums is how different our community is from some of the others found online. We are committed to maintaining this reputation in our Facebook group. I have met a countless number of people, many I call friends, from our OI Forums. I know real bonds (and even relationships) have resulted from the time spent on these forums. I'm looking forward to seeing these bonds develop and new ones form on our new outlet. Please know that this decision was not made lightly or without considering the amount of time many of you have spent on here. I fully believe this is the next step forward to growing our community and helping as many people as possible have the best trip to Universal. I'm looking forward to interacting with everyone for many years to come. As always, please don't hesitate to reach out with feedback -- taylor [at] orlandoinformer.com See you on the Facebook Group, Taylor P.S., Unlimited likes on Facebook, you can thank me in advance.

  1. The "Good Morning" Project

We are interested over here! Nathan is very excited about it. Probably won't go see it this weekend since it's Easter weekend, but I might surprise him and take him next weekend. You planning on seeing it opening day? Very glad to hear you are both ok. My prayers are going out to that part of the world. Happy birthday @halfbloodprincess! Thank you guys! @rosie16 I could have but I'm out of sick time and didn't want to use my vacation time if I didn't have to. I felt better after coffee!
  2. The "Good Morning" Project

Good Morning, Informers. Having a rough go of it this morning. Yesterday afternoon I started to not feel so well, and I think I picked up what Sophia had. Sophia seems to be doing better, even though she didn't eat much yesterday, so I'm hoping this passes me quickly too. Can't eat very much without feeling worse, so I haven't even had coffee this morning, and I'm struggling without it. Had to go lay down for about 15 minutes about 1/2 hour into work this morning, because it was so painful to keep my eyes open. I'm thinking about going to get a coffee on my break and sip on it to see how I do. It will almost be worth the risk if I could just make it through the day without nodding off at my desk. Anyway, hope you all have a great day!
  3. Like @Kathkat said, yes, Potterheads, we get it! Love that! Sorry you had a couple of bad experiences. I've heard awful things about Air Canada elsewhere as well. But overall sounds like an awesome trip, thanks for sharing!
  4. The "Good Morning" Project

Good Morning, Informers. Got the kids' Easter baskets all sorted yesterday. Feels good to be prepared earlier than the last minute. Sophia started throwing up last night. Nathan is staying home with her today. I'm praying it passes her quickly and the rest of us don't get it! I thought we were in the clear with illnesses this season, but apparently not. She seems pretty miserable when she's puking her brains out, but once she's done she seems fine (sorry for the TMI). Doubtful that's how my body would handle it if I caught it though. I would much rather avoid it is I can. I see a lot of Lysol and vitamin C in my future. Unlike a lot of our UK members, I do not have a short week this week, and I rarely have Good Friday off anyway. Oh well, Easter Sunday family time will be enough to look forward to. Chuck mentioned yesterday that it was National Fragrance Day and mentioned how certain smells can trigger memories. This is definitely true because I must use the same fabric softener or something as CBBR does, because every time I fold clothes I just want to bury my face in them because it reminds me of Cabana Bay! Anyway, hope everyone else has a nice day.
  5. That $150 food credit y'all keep going on about, is that good for anywhere at Universal??
  6. Yay! Loving your trip report! Loved reading about your first ride on Dragon Challenge! Sounds a lot like when I took @Narcissa her first time. I love that ride! I NEED to try a Hogs Tea the next time I'm there! You always remind me when I see you get one while you're there. Having a drink by the fire pit sounds so lovely and relaxing! So glad you got to meet so many amazing forum members this trip! I really, really, really hope I get to meet you on my next one!!!
  7. The Walking Dead (TV series)

@Bern I agree about the Sasha and Abraham thing. There's no chemistry there. @Lainie I loved josh on talking dead! He seems like he'd be a fun guy to hang out with (ps sorry if it was my post that spoiled it for you. I tried to put it a few lines down to avoid that)
  8. The Walking Dead (TV series)

Yes! An "on the edge of your seat" episode! Just the way I like them! The baby shoe scene in the apothecary was a bit hard to watch. So sad. LITERALLY right when I started thinking, "Denise is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters," they slap an arrow through her eye. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I'm so disappointed. I would've really liked to see her character arc and watch her become a strong apocalypse survivor as we all know she had the potential to become. So brutal. That arrow came out of no where. I don't think any of us were expecting that. Not fair. Tara will be devastated. Can we talk about Eugene's d**k biting scene? OMG!! that was so metal. Welcome to level two! On a happy note, Daryl is reunited with his crossbow. We all knew it was only a matter of time. Those people who ambushed them, I'm sure they're part of Negan's group. Hopefully they get what's coming to them, and then some. And what the heck?! Carol's leaving Alexandria?? What happened?? We need our Queen of the Apocalypse back! I don't like this side of her. Surely she'll come out of nowhere and save everyone's a$$es later on down the road. Again.
  9. Throwback Thursday

    If only!
  10. I love Lil's Spider-Man sweatshirt! I've been wanting to get that one. Also, I agree 110% about our lovely @Bern! Such a wonderful person, and you deserve every good thing that comes your way!
  11. What film are you watching tonight?

Without having seen the movie, it's hard to say for sure, but I am almost positive it will be more along the lines of Avengers with the PG-13 rating. Deadpool was a hard "R", and I don't think Batman v. Superman will get even close to that.
  12. The "Good Morning" Project

Good Morning, Informers. Went to a birthday party yesterday for one of Jacob's little friends from school. It was at a park, and they had a lot of fun. Just work today and will try and go to the store this evening to get stuff for the kids' Easter baskets. Have a great day all!
  13. The "Good Morning" Project

Good Morning, Informers! Went grocery shopping and to a birthday dinner with family yesterday for Nathan and his cousin. Today we have a birthday party for one of Jacob's friends. Have a great day all!
  14. The "Good Morning" Project

Good Morning, Informers! Finally got a solid eight hours last night. It was much needed. But I'm getting up now because I don't wanna oversleep and there's stuff I want to get done today. Yesterday was a good day. My mom made Nathan a birthday cake for when he got home. Then we got to go to the PBR! Nathan had been wanting to go since it was here on his birthday. We had a good time and we all loved it, except for Sophia, who was over it after about 10 minutes. She then entertained herself by insisting she needed to go to the bathroom every 10 minutes. At least I got a bunch of flights of stairs recorded on my Fitbit from climbing up and down from our seats. Today I was planning on getting some grocery shopping done and cleaning house before we go to dinner tonight with some of Nathan's family. Should be a good time tonight. Have a nice Saturday everyone!
