(IMPORTANT) What's next for our community   03/24/2016

Today we're excited to announce the start of our new Facebook group: Universal Community by Orlando Informer. We're also announcing we're closing our forums. This is probably the hardest decision I've made so far with Orlando Informer. This week marks the 2nd anniversary of our forums. Monday will mark 2 years from when I first applied to work with Orlando Informer. I was entering a pool of over 50 applicants, didn't meet the requirements, and didn't think the odds were very high that I'd get the position of Forum Moderator. It never even crossed my mind that not only would I get the position, but that position and these forums would be the start of being able to do what I love as a fulltime job. At its core, our forums have always had two goals: A ) Help families receive specific answers to specific questions, feedback from folks who have been in their shoes, and help them maximize their investment into their vacation. B ) Build a community of people who love to visit Universal, with a foundation of respect and tolerance. I can speak for our entire team on our forums (both past and present), especially our Community Manager @Chuck Plagmann, when I say that we have devoted hours of time every day of the year working towards these two goals. We feel that we've made major strides towards both of our goals, but see the opportunity to help a significantly greater amount of people plan their vacation and add on to our established (and amazing) community. Unfortunately, as time goes on, forums like ours have a tendency to slow down and be replaced by social media. It's the cycle of life for forums. We believe that this Facebook group is the logical next step for our community. Our forums and the content within will remain browseable for the foreseeable future, however you will not be able to submit new content. Our Facebook group, Universal Community by Orlando Informer, will be curated by our same team that ran the OI Forums. @Chuck Plagmann and I will be on the group daily to provide insight and help families plan their vacation. @debi will be monitoring for any Special Needs questions. Our (very talented) authors, like @Marc N. Kleinhenz, will be on the group to talk about their latest articles and your feedback. Finally, @Park Beast will even be dropping by from time to time to talk about our weekly podcast. You can access our Facebook group by searching "Universal Community by Orlando Informer" or visiting UOR.community from any webbrowser. We know this is a substantial change from our forums, but are hopeful you'll be willing to give it a shot. Additionally, we're launching a Facebook group for Universal Hollywood: "Universal Community by California Informer" or visit USH.community. This is the end of the forums, but it is just the beginning of our community. One thing we consistently hear from members of our forums is how different our community is from some of the others found online. We are committed to maintaining this reputation in our Facebook group. I have met a countless number of people, many I call friends, from our OI Forums. I know real bonds (and even relationships) have resulted from the time spent on these forums. I'm looking forward to seeing these bonds develop and new ones form on our new outlet. Please know that this decision was not made lightly or without considering the amount of time many of you have spent on here. I fully believe this is the next step forward to growing our community and helping as many people as possible have the best trip to Universal. I'm looking forward to interacting with everyone for many years to come. As always, please don't hesitate to reach out with feedback -- taylor [at] orlandoinformer.com See you on the Facebook Group, Taylor P.S., Unlimited likes on Facebook, you can thank me in advance.

  1. The "Good Morning" Project

#451 Good Morning Informers! Just a half day for me, as this afternoon I'm off back home to Cumbria! For 4 days off! Woooo! Last night, was just spent packing my case and also watched a few episodes of House of Cards on Netflix. I have a 5.5 hour train journey today, going via London and up to Carlisle. I enjoy the train journey, as I absolutely hate the drive! That's all from me today! Have a great day all!
  2. Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party 2016

    Dates have been released for MNSSHP 2016. I was hoping for Tuesday the 27th, but they don't have it! "Here is the full list of this year’s dates: September – 2, 8, 11, 13, 16, 18, 20, 23, 25, 29, 30 October – 2, 4, 6, 7, 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, 18, 20, 21, 23, 25, 27, 28, 30, 31 " https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2016/03/mickeys-not-so-scary-halloween-party-spooks-walt-disney-world-guests-29-nights-this-fall/

Ha! I haven't eaten it yet, will save it until next week when I'm back at my flat. I always don't tend to eat any before Easter Sunday! I saw this one when I went to Asda (UK version of Walmart) the other day and contains a tiny bit of Guinness. Not sure if you get it in US at all. - LINK

Yeah, I will be all fine, but as always will remain vigilant. Haha that made me laugh. Thank you, I'm very lucky!
  5. The OI Forums at 2

Wow can't believe the forum is two years already! How old does that actually make OI then? I still remember first going on to OI after finding through Google and looking over this website, to then find all the articles where pay to view. So I parted with money to some guy called Dan Hatfield and my obsession for OI and my increased obsession of Universal was born. After paying the money and gaining access to the site, I was amazed, it was a massive encyclopedia of Universal everything and was the best $ I had spent. As it made the forthcoming vacation, amazing and so much better, than it could have ever been without OI! Between holidays, I regularly checked OI for my favourite articles like the RRU and then the forum was born! It has been an absolute pleasure to chat on the forum to like minded people like myself, from the US, the world and closer to home. Be it about Universal, theme parks, our daily lives, well anything. It has become a bit of an obsession to post a Good Morning post every day and it's really nice to see what others are doing! But the best part of OI has been the OI Meetup in September, it was the best holiday I've ever had! It was absolutely brilliant, to meet so many lovely people from the forum, that I now call friends and spend time together at Universal and other events we did. Can't wait for September now, for another OI meetup and relive it all again! It's gonna be amazing I'm sure! I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone at OI. @Taylor Strickland thank you for carrying on OI when Dan left, OI is brilliant and really has gone from strength to strength ever since, growing all the time. But the most important thing about OI to me is the "Community" and we have @Chuck Plagmann to thank for that. Chuck goes above and beyond in everything he does for us here, managing the community, the way helps coordinate the OI Meetup and just making sure everyone has the best vacation possible. Happy Birthday! Here's to many more OI birthdays and years of success!
  6. The "Good Morning" Project

#450 Good Morning Informers! Very sad and horrible news from Brussels yesterday. Sometimes it really is a disturbing world we live in! Whenever these happen on following trip to London, I always feel a bit uneasy and will be extra vigilant tomorrow. I didn't get up to much at all last night really just chilled out. I got a nice surprise at work yesterday, as they gave us all an Easter Egg! Tonight, need to pack my bags for going home tomorrow afternoon. Can't wait! Have a great day all!
  7. The "Good Morning" Project

That's really awful. Glad to hear you're both OK. Stay Safe!
  8. Next Orlando visit countdowns...

    6 months today!
  9. The "Good Morning" Project

Until the meet-up last year, I wasn’t aware that Americans got so few holidays, or that the US is basically the only developed country in the world to not have laws for “number of holidays”. I found it pretty amazing that you all got so little, especially that here for any job the minimum allowed is 20 holidays + Bank Holidays (Or 28 Days) and I’m lucky enough to get "25 + Bank Holidays". I can definitely see why in America, people cherish and make the most of vacations soo much!
  10. The "Good Morning" Project

#449 Good Morning Informers! Half way through the week today for me, just today and then 1 & a half more days and I'm off home! Didn't do much last night, but I did watch "Last Week Tonight". It had a very interesting segment on "The Great Wall of Trump" and was funny as ever! Much same again tonight, just chilling out and not doing much really! Have a great day all!
  11. Let's talk shopping!

I'm same, I use high factors, as I burn easily. So I would rather stay pasty white!
  12. The "Good Morning" Project

#448 Good Morning Informers! Short week ahead for me too! Just 3.5 days, then I'm off home Thursday afternoon and travelling back Easter Monday afternoon! Can't wait! As I haven't seen my parents or any my friends & other family back home, since Christmas! Thinking about it, I should have extended my Easter break, but I will come home again for a long weekend instead! Yesterday didn't do much at all; went to the gym, did jobs round my flat, watched the football and then watched TV, that was about it really! Have a great day all!
  13. The "Good Morning" Project

Haha! The last season or two especially have been brilliant!
  14. The "Good Morning" Project

Suits is one of my favourite shows! Enjoy!
  15. The "Good Morning" Project

#447 Good Morning Informers! I'm also, just watching football in front of the TV kind of day, with the two big derby matches this afternoon. Yesterday went into Norwich to get a few things, then rest was a chilled out day. I watched Fast 7 last night, first time I had watched it since the first day it was released at the cinema, I had forgotten how over the top it was. But after all that nonsense and with the circumstances, the ending is poignant and done brilliantly. I also caught up yesterday afternoon on last weeks The Daily Show and also some Tim Tracker Vlogs. Was a real lazy day! I also booked something for my holiday, I booked a "No1 Lounge" at Gatwick Airport for before my flight in September. O2 priority had a deal on where could book a lounge pass for £15 and can be used anytime in 12 months, so that seemed a pretty good deal! Have a great day all!
