(IMPORTANT) What's next for our community   03/24/2016

Today we're excited to announce the start of our new Facebook group: Universal Community by Orlando Informer. We're also announcing we're closing our forums. This is probably the hardest decision I've made so far with Orlando Informer. This week marks the 2nd anniversary of our forums. Monday will mark 2 years from when I first applied to work with Orlando Informer. I was entering a pool of over 50 applicants, didn't meet the requirements, and didn't think the odds were very high that I'd get the position of Forum Moderator. It never even crossed my mind that not only would I get the position, but that position and these forums would be the start of being able to do what I love as a fulltime job. At its core, our forums have always had two goals: A ) Help families receive specific answers to specific questions, feedback from folks who have been in their shoes, and help them maximize their investment into their vacation. B ) Build a community of people who love to visit Universal, with a foundation of respect and tolerance. I can speak for our entire team on our forums (both past and present), especially our Community Manager @Chuck Plagmann, when I say that we have devoted hours of time every day of the year working towards these two goals. We feel that we've made major strides towards both of our goals, but see the opportunity to help a significantly greater amount of people plan their vacation and add on to our established (and amazing) community. Unfortunately, as time goes on, forums like ours have a tendency to slow down and be replaced by social media. It's the cycle of life for forums. We believe that this Facebook group is the logical next step for our community. Our forums and the content within will remain browseable for the foreseeable future, however you will not be able to submit new content. Our Facebook group, Universal Community by Orlando Informer, will be curated by our same team that ran the OI Forums. @Chuck Plagmann and I will be on the group daily to provide insight and help families plan their vacation. @debi will be monitoring for any Special Needs questions. Our (very talented) authors, like @Marc N. Kleinhenz, will be on the group to talk about their latest articles and your feedback. Finally, @Park Beast will even be dropping by from time to time to talk about our weekly podcast. You can access our Facebook group by searching "Universal Community by Orlando Informer" or visiting UOR.community from any webbrowser. We know this is a substantial change from our forums, but are hopeful you'll be willing to give it a shot. Additionally, we're launching a Facebook group for Universal Hollywood: "Universal Community by California Informer" or visit USH.community. This is the end of the forums, but it is just the beginning of our community. One thing we consistently hear from members of our forums is how different our community is from some of the others found online. We are committed to maintaining this reputation in our Facebook group. I have met a countless number of people, many I call friends, from our OI Forums. I know real bonds (and even relationships) have resulted from the time spent on these forums. I'm looking forward to seeing these bonds develop and new ones form on our new outlet. Please know that this decision was not made lightly or without considering the amount of time many of you have spent on here. I fully believe this is the next step forward to growing our community and helping as many people as possible have the best trip to Universal. I'm looking forward to interacting with everyone for many years to come. As always, please don't hesitate to reach out with feedback -- taylor [at] orlandoinformer.com See you on the Facebook Group, Taylor P.S., Unlimited likes on Facebook, you can thank me in advance.

  1. The "Good Morning" Project

Good morning! I arrived to school and was informed that I did not have my grad class last night, but next week. Grrrrrr. All that work done for nothing. Today is definitely parent-teacher conferences, though. Think of me. Hope I return in one piece. Have a terrific Thursday!
  2. The "Good Morning" Project

Good morning! First day back after vacation is always hard. Yawn. Thinking of Belgium. Glad our Belgian OI family is safe! Heartbreaking world. Today continues my marathon week. Grad class tonight, parent teacher conferences Thursday and Friday, Saturday school Saturday. Send coffee. Have a warm Wednesday!
  3. The "Good Morning" Project

Good morning! Back to school. Waiting for warmer weather to finally show up, too. Have a terrific Tuesday!
  4. The "Good Morning" Project

Good morning! My cat woke me up out of a sound sleep to tell me that hello, I needed to be awake. I had to go to work, darn it! No, no work. That big storm turned out to be some kind of a dud. We got perhaps an inch? The road in my complex is bare. Shoveling may not happen today, as it's to warm up considerably and there's not much of the darn stuff out there at all. So I have a day off from school to extend my vacation. (By that, I mean I can do my grad work stuff since I totally avoided all of it over my actual vacation.) Have a magnificent Monday!
  5. What film are you watching tonight?

My sister had on Pitch Perfect 2 after dinner tonight. I didn't like the first one (that's my unpopular opinion of the evening), so this one was lackluster, as well.
  6. The "Good Night" Project 2

No school tomorrow.Annoying. Should be elated, but we're pushing into the last day of school on a Monday, which is no good for anyone involved. Good night, friends.
  7. Let's talk shopping!

900% forgot about this thread and that I started it. Cheers for bringing it back! What a fun trip down memory lane. I agree with @HPTR, my dear @Scrabbled. You should dress for comfort, especially in the heat. If your crop yoga pants are what will work for you, go for it. Especially since most exercise clothing is made to reduce moisture on the skin. I would also consider that most people in theme parks go for the comfort vs style. The only people I've known who go for style vs comfort are the ones who wind up sore, burnt, and whining at the end of the trip. And, most importantly, SUNSCREEN.
  8. The "Good Morning" Project

Good morning! From the couch. I'll check back in later after a nap! Have a swell Sunday!
  9. The "Good Morning" Project

@debiYour posts always make me smile! Thank you for being such an integral part of our community!
  10. The "Good Night" Project 2

Sending you good juju, my dear friend.
  11. The "Good Morning" Project

Good morning! I've been awake for quite some time. Siamese kitty decided that 7 am was a great time to scratch at my closet door to get inside and curl up on all my tote bags. So up I got and came down to the couch...where he proceeded to use his claws to knead at me until I was in juuuuuuuuuust the right position. And then both cats decided that they wanted to fight over the new cat tree and inside the blackout curtains I have over the patio door. Needless to say, the dog and I were NOT pleased! We wanted more rest! Today's agenda: hair appointment (much needed--my black hair is more salt and pepper than the glossy raven I prefer), spending time with BFF, and who knows. Mourning the end of vacation. Dreading this frakkin' snowstorm @POTTERLUVAmentioned.Yet the sun is shining, it's a beautiful day out, and my neighbors are returning from down south in full force. Have a sunny Saturday!
  12. The "Good Morning" Project

Good morning! Yesterday was a lazy day. I did meander down to the shops for some shopping. One item in mind when I went in, left with 6 things and another dent in my credit card bill. But I managed to get what I wanted! I sat around and played games on my phone, too. Oops? Today, unsure of plans. I know I need to do work (booooooooo) but that's what Sunday is for: whining that my vacation is over and easing back into the real world by spending hours laboring over this grad class and making sure my grades are in for the end of the trimester. Meh. I reached out to a friend to see if she wants to have lunch near me, but no word yet, so we shall see. Have a fantastic Friday!
  13. The "Good Morning" Project

Good morning! I'm not Irish, which is unheard of around these parts, so today is just an excuse for me to pretend to be. I'd usually treat myself to a disgusting Shamrock Shake today, but I'll pass. I will, however, be having corned beef tonight. The cabbage can shove off. I love corned beef so much! It's usually so darned expensive, too. Hmph. At any rate, lots of festivities in my neck of the woods today. I'm sure @potterluva can attest to others, as well! On the agenda today: getting gas and maybe heading to the shops to try and find some darned capris. I'm too short to just buy some online and be done with it. I need to actually go try them on and make sure they're not going to wind up looking like I bought pants that were a tad too short. Fashion faux-pas right there. I also have a pretty long overdue date with Netflix, too. And my DVR. Oy! Have a top Thursday!
  14. Skull Island: Reign of Kong

Monkey snot is an acceptably disgusting substitute for bananas, but I kind of agree with @Jokstr: hidden Minions!!!!!!!11111 They'd follow Kong, no??
