(IMPORTANT) What's next for our community   03/24/2016

Today we're excited to announce the start of our new Facebook group: Universal Community by Orlando Informer. We're also announcing we're closing our forums. This is probably the hardest decision I've made so far with Orlando Informer. This week marks the 2nd anniversary of our forums. Monday will mark 2 years from when I first applied to work with Orlando Informer. I was entering a pool of over 50 applicants, didn't meet the requirements, and didn't think the odds were very high that I'd get the position of Forum Moderator. It never even crossed my mind that not only would I get the position, but that position and these forums would be the start of being able to do what I love as a fulltime job. At its core, our forums have always had two goals: A ) Help families receive specific answers to specific questions, feedback from folks who have been in their shoes, and help them maximize their investment into their vacation. B ) Build a community of people who love to visit Universal, with a foundation of respect and tolerance. I can speak for our entire team on our forums (both past and present), especially our Community Manager @Chuck Plagmann, when I say that we have devoted hours of time every day of the year working towards these two goals. We feel that we've made major strides towards both of our goals, but see the opportunity to help a significantly greater amount of people plan their vacation and add on to our established (and amazing) community. Unfortunately, as time goes on, forums like ours have a tendency to slow down and be replaced by social media. It's the cycle of life for forums. We believe that this Facebook group is the logical next step for our community. Our forums and the content within will remain browseable for the foreseeable future, however you will not be able to submit new content. Our Facebook group, Universal Community by Orlando Informer, will be curated by our same team that ran the OI Forums. @Chuck Plagmann and I will be on the group daily to provide insight and help families plan their vacation. @debi will be monitoring for any Special Needs questions. Our (very talented) authors, like @Marc N. Kleinhenz, will be on the group to talk about their latest articles and your feedback. Finally, @Park Beast will even be dropping by from time to time to talk about our weekly podcast. You can access our Facebook group by searching "Universal Community by Orlando Informer" or visiting UOR.community from any webbrowser. We know this is a substantial change from our forums, but are hopeful you'll be willing to give it a shot. Additionally, we're launching a Facebook group for Universal Hollywood: "Universal Community by California Informer" or visit USH.community. This is the end of the forums, but it is just the beginning of our community. One thing we consistently hear from members of our forums is how different our community is from some of the others found online. We are committed to maintaining this reputation in our Facebook group. I have met a countless number of people, many I call friends, from our OI Forums. I know real bonds (and even relationships) have resulted from the time spent on these forums. I'm looking forward to seeing these bonds develop and new ones form on our new outlet. Please know that this decision was not made lightly or without considering the amount of time many of you have spent on here. I fully believe this is the next step forward to growing our community and helping as many people as possible have the best trip to Universal. I'm looking forward to interacting with everyone for many years to come. As always, please don't hesitate to reach out with feedback -- taylor [at] orlandoinformer.com See you on the Facebook Group, Taylor P.S., Unlimited likes on Facebook, you can thank me in advance.

  1. The "Good Night" Project 2

@Lainie& @EchoPixieMy prayers and thoughts are with you both and your mothers. The weather cleared up and warmer up nicely to enjoy outside. Tomorrow should be warmer and I hope still sunny. Busy day with a few thangs to be crammed in because Friday we will have to be out of town for a bit with an appointment and Saturday is washing and packing day to leave for Orlando very early.I'll keep it short but I just want to say, and you've heard it from me several times and many others, that the people on this site are the best and I am so happy to call so many of you my friends. My cup overfloweth. Peaceful sleep and sweet dreams ~
  2. The "Good Morning" Project

That's the one but it isn't available here, sadly.

I also meant to ask how was the egg? @Dan_MolColin you must report back to me about that Guinness egg as well . . .best put one in my basket if you give it the nod.
  4. The "Good Morning" Project

Someone would casually start walking in . . . looking up . . . .and around. . . . . 'WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! LOOK BEHIND YOU!GET OUT!" then run back out.

When you leave Hogsmeade, (heading in the way ofSeuss Landing), keep to the right and, if I recall correctly (I should know this. . .), it's right near that little open shop, across from the Fountain. You can't miss them because they are two huge doors but are almost never open so I think everyone just walks by and never bothers to look.
  6. Birthdays!

    Happy birthday @halfbloodprincess!
  7. The "Good Morning" Project

I hope all around but for you specifically, too, Rosie, yesterday was a bad one for you. As you should be, Matt, eyes open, at all times, report anythang wonky, etc. You'll be okay. I'm about 95% convinced that some kind of rainbow or glowing aura follows you around. #LifeisGoodforMatt. No words for this. Dew point, Mr. Chuck? For now it looks to be 81° with a 51° dew point,. so far, so good. I see long lines as well . . . we are all excited for Kong so if we upgrade our passes, I am hoping we can squeak down there one more time over summer. We have to get DH on Hulk, too. Me, I will sit out and watch him go by. Puppies of all ages bring unconditional love everyday. My bubby has the best ears, especially when they are cold and hugging a dog for about 20-30 seconds is an instant serotonin fix. Look at this face: I very much agree, Freddy. However, I think it's human nature and while we should try to change some things for the better, and always be thankful in life, complaining is part of who we are, for the most part, so don't beat yourself up too much. Eckhart Tolle said, "The best prayer you can give up everyday is "thank you' ". Go out into the world everyday and try to make it better in small steps. Don your cape! Good morning peeps ~ I was waiting for a nice, sunny day today and it's cloudy and gray. I think it's supposed to clear up later but it won't get warmer until we get some sun! The onion grass is getting out of control so I hope for some steadily warm days with spotted rain so we can get some grass seed down. I caught Dublin kicking up her divots this morning so that doesn't help. Not sure why she does that, some odd psychological dog thang. The usual for me today and waiting for my parents to come by. Re-downloaded the AMC app in case my streaming site isn't streaming well enough after Sunday. I can't wait until I get home, I can't. I told @Lainiethat I might be hidden in a dark spot corner in Knockturn Alley with my cell charger peering at my little screen. I should do that and wear my robe with the hood up, people would hear random yelling but not know where it's coming from. . . . Have a good day all.
  8. September 2016 - Who's up for it.

The struggle is real. Congrats on your booking!

@rosie16I don't have the right words to make you feel any better but know that me and many of your OI friends here are supporting you in thoughts and wishes. Today seemed to be an off day for a few people before I even heard the news this morning. So incredibly sad and I am sick of it. Cowards with no souls, what was the purpose of them being born?? Glad ATC and her husband are alright. My parents will be here for awhile in the morning and no doubt my dad will make a comment about flying next week . . . . I will say some of the people here and my daughter had me laughing pretty well tonight so that was a nice reprieve. We are expecting two nice days coming up so I hope to get a lot done and also get out a bit. Can't think of much else and need sleep so peaceful sleep and sweet dreams.

The bridge is great, it's nice when it's open. I saw it open and August and ran. It's wide, peaceful and has a great view that we don't get to see too often. Would love to see it if you can upload it another way. Diagon in the morning light and Hogsmeade at night, those are my favorites.

I like Diagon when it's empty (I just happened to get lucky with no one around, there were people there, this was during EPA)
  12. The "Good Morning" Project

Thanks for letting us know here that you are okay. My prayers and thoughts are with you both for strength and safety and for your country.
  13. The OI Forums at 2

Where to start with my love for OI? Let me count the ways. . . There have been similar posts so I may be repetitive. Many thanks to @Taylor Stricklandfor keeping the site going and for my broad use of gifs and assorted thread topics. @Chuck Plagmannour resident mayor of Universal, keeping us in line and keeping thangs neat and orderly. I ran across this site from a baking blog in the early days of pre-Diagon. After awhile of reading but not joining, I took the plunge and came out swimmingly, literally. I cannot begin to tell you how this wee forum has impacted my life. As in too much time spent here but definitely, more importantly, in the wonderful, special friendships I have made. People I call my best pals and have become a part of my life here, in the parks and in my everyday life. So many of you. There is much love here, in the familial community we have and in my heart for so many of you fine folks. My peeps in the Dead thread, you all have a special place with me, too. There's just a plethora of information that can't be bought or found elsewhere, from the hotels, attractions, transportation, so many little tricks of assorted kinds and the most helpful people around. The anticipation of new thangs and rides, we all share that Universal love--universally. I could really go on for awhile but I am just very, very grateful everyday for this forum and more so, the people here. The people make this forum what it is. So happy to call so many of you dear friends that mean so much to me. Happy birthday OI!
  14. The "Good Morning" Project

Good Morning Informers~ Happy Tuesday. It's a beautiful day here, a bit cold but still sunny and we expect to have temperatures near 70 for the next two days after today. Well said @DHP Lover. @rosie16I hope today goes smoothly as possible for you and as quickly as possible. @drmurcatOoh that worries me with us going down next week. I have express passes waiting but I wonder if they will be enough. No matter, it's Universal and we will make the most of it. I'm still going to take a peek at the wait times today then to get an idea and hold on to my chair as I do so. Not much to report today, more of the usual. Got a lot done yesterday but a few more thangs that will probably have to wait until mid-week at least. Don your cape, kick butt today, in all ways if needed, and be awesome.
  15. Random Chatter

And often solves nothing by doing so. Yet, it's there . . . .
