(IMPORTANT) What's next for our community   03/24/2016

Today we're excited to announce the start of our new Facebook group: Universal Community by Orlando Informer. We're also announcing we're closing our forums. This is probably the hardest decision I've made so far with Orlando Informer. This week marks the 2nd anniversary of our forums. Monday will mark 2 years from when I first applied to work with Orlando Informer. I was entering a pool of over 50 applicants, didn't meet the requirements, and didn't think the odds were very high that I'd get the position of Forum Moderator. It never even crossed my mind that not only would I get the position, but that position and these forums would be the start of being able to do what I love as a fulltime job. At its core, our forums have always had two goals: A ) Help families receive specific answers to specific questions, feedback from folks who have been in their shoes, and help them maximize their investment into their vacation. B ) Build a community of people who love to visit Universal, with a foundation of respect and tolerance. I can speak for our entire team on our forums (both past and present), especially our Community Manager @Chuck Plagmann, when I say that we have devoted hours of time every day of the year working towards these two goals. We feel that we've made major strides towards both of our goals, but see the opportunity to help a significantly greater amount of people plan their vacation and add on to our established (and amazing) community. Unfortunately, as time goes on, forums like ours have a tendency to slow down and be replaced by social media. It's the cycle of life for forums. We believe that this Facebook group is the logical next step for our community. Our forums and the content within will remain browseable for the foreseeable future, however you will not be able to submit new content. Our Facebook group, Universal Community by Orlando Informer, will be curated by our same team that ran the OI Forums. @Chuck Plagmann and I will be on the group daily to provide insight and help families plan their vacation. @debi will be monitoring for any Special Needs questions. Our (very talented) authors, like @Marc N. Kleinhenz, will be on the group to talk about their latest articles and your feedback. Finally, @Park Beast will even be dropping by from time to time to talk about our weekly podcast. You can access our Facebook group by searching "Universal Community by Orlando Informer" or visiting UOR.community from any webbrowser. We know this is a substantial change from our forums, but are hopeful you'll be willing to give it a shot. Additionally, we're launching a Facebook group for Universal Hollywood: "Universal Community by California Informer" or visit USH.community. This is the end of the forums, but it is just the beginning of our community. One thing we consistently hear from members of our forums is how different our community is from some of the others found online. We are committed to maintaining this reputation in our Facebook group. I have met a countless number of people, many I call friends, from our OI Forums. I know real bonds (and even relationships) have resulted from the time spent on these forums. I'm looking forward to seeing these bonds develop and new ones form on our new outlet. Please know that this decision was not made lightly or without considering the amount of time many of you have spent on here. I fully believe this is the next step forward to growing our community and helping as many people as possible have the best trip to Universal. I'm looking forward to interacting with everyone for many years to come. As always, please don't hesitate to reach out with feedback -- taylor [at] orlandoinformer.com See you on the Facebook Group, Taylor P.S., Unlimited likes on Facebook, you can thank me in advance.

  1. The "Good Night" Project 2

I have a co-worker who has a big personality (in other words, she is very LOUD). She sits across the wall from me. Today I thought I was going to scream, because was irritatingly loud. She talked and laughed for 45 of the first 60 minutes she was there today, and she has an annoying Valley Girl voice, and, like, says, like, "like", like, every other word. Like. ARGH! Ok enough of that. We are off Friday, so tomorrow night after work we are driving down to a casino in southern Indiana for an overnight trip. Then Friday we are taking a scenic drive over to Cincinnati and going to Jungle Jim's supermarket, it's a fun place to walk around and look at all kinds of exotic foods. Friday afternoon we have tickets to Batman vs. Superman. Darren is so excited to see it. I'm excited for the popcorn. We don't have any other plans for the weekend. Wishing safe travel to all the OI'ers traveling for the Easter weekend. Will be thinking of you tomorrow, @Lainie. @rosie16 , @Dan_Mol is right. If we thought too much about what could happen, we truly would never want to leave the house. @EchoPixie best wishes to your mother. I can't imagine dealing with that for over a year. Pleasant dreams, friends

What a day. So saddened by the news from Belgium. What has our world come to? Thankful my friends @ATCBelgium and @Elcolonel78 stayed safe today. We have to keep living our lives and staying ever vigilant. The bad guys won't win. Sleep well, my friends, and keep your loved ones close Oh Rosie I'm sorry you had such a bad day. Hugs to you, and hoping tomorrow is much better for you.
  3. The OI Forums at 2

I had visited Orlando Informer for a while before the forums, and when Dan announced he was starting the forums I told Darren that I was going to jump on board right away. I enjoy visiting the boards a few times a day (sitting at my desk doing insurance is so boring)! As a few others have said, I feel like I have made lifelong friends here. This may sound sappy, but when my sister died in May of 2014, I thought my world was ending. She was one of my best friends, didn't know what I would do without her. I've told a few people that I felt like my OI family was put into my life at that time for a reason . I really couldn't have made it without you all. On a day like today, when the ugliness of the world rears its ugly head, I take comfort in the fact that I can connect with you all either via the forums or twitter, and we can make sure we are all safe, and hopefully make each other smile. I look forward to many more forum birthdays with you all! xox
  4. Do eet!!!!! I didn't get enough time with you. We didn’t get to have a cocktail together or anything!!
  5. Late September would be a good time to make a quick trip down :). That will help pass the time until December.
  6. Next Orlando visit countdowns...

Me too!!! Unless we decide to fly in on September 21. Not sure yet.
  7. The "Good Night" Project 2

I can rewatch episodes when I am alone, it's just the first viewing that scares me! Good luck on your test! Don't forget you are on a webcam, and accidently do something embarrassing You gotta try HHN once! Ask @POTTERLUVA, @JimmysMom, @Bern - they weren't sure either but are now hooked! It's fun to be scared with a whole group of friends, although there are a few of us who like to direct the scare actors towards certain people in the group... I had 30% off at Kohls - score!! I got some great buys. Love that store! Got $20 Kohls cash to use too
  8. The "Good Night" Project 2

@Bern Darren will be staying with family in Mississippi, so he won't have an issue with watching TWD. I am literally scared to watch it by myself! And then have to go upstairs and try to sleep in this big house with just me & the kittens here!! LOL! I'll be texting you all right! The lazy weekend was nice but now I physically ache from inactivity. I stopped at Kohls on the way home from work tonight and had some retail therapy. They do have the best clearance sales. I'll miss Kohls when we move to Florida . Tomorrow night will begin the ritual of mowing the lawn. The grass is tall, but so very green. It will look nice once it's mowed. My friend @DHP Lover is sending me the most perfect birthday card to give to a co-worker. I've never seen cards like she finds! Thanks again Kelly Pleasant dreams, friends.
  9. The "Good Night" Project 2

Another lazy day. I left the house 2 times all weekend, once to get the mail and paper yesterday and once to get the paper today. 4 day workweek for us, we are both off Friday. Finishing up The Talking Dead then off to bed. Darren just realized he will be on vacation with his parents when the season finale of TWD is on. I really don't know if I can watch it while I am alone... Hope everyone has a great week.
  10. The "Good Night" Project 2

Today was a very lazy day. I spent the majority of the day parked in my recliner in front of the tv. I did fix some kick-butt Italian beef in the crockpot, but that doesn't take a lot of effort on my part. @tirfaie sounds like you had a fun day. If you find any B & N pops that they won't ship, let me know and I'll pick them up for you. Sweet dreams friends
  11. September 2016 - Who's up for it.

We're not staying there either, we're just gonna crash the parties every night
  12. The "Good Morning" Project

@debi your quilts are gorgeous! That is one skill I wish I had. I'm glad you're passing it down to your granddaughter.
  13. The "Good Night" Project 2

Thank you, my OI family, for your thoughts and messages. What would I do without you?
  14. The "Good Night" Project 2

It's been an overall craptastic day and I just want to crawl into bed and pull the covers over my head. Unfortunately that doesn't make stuff go away, does it? I'm sad to report my niece's baby does have the devastating genetic disorder, so yeah that sucks. Not sure what tomorrow will bring. Hope you all have a good weekend
  15. The "Good Night" Project 2

Night, friends. 2 margaritas on a school night = not a great idea. Hoping for a good nights sleep though. We have almost made it to the weekend. Have a great night and wonderful day tomorrow.
